Butcher in NYC's East Village
Hey all,
I'm looking to find a butcher near my apartment in Stuyvesant Town (14th St/Ave. B) so I don't have to go to the one at Whole Foods anymore, but I'm not sure where to go. Anyone have a good reliable butcher in the neighborhood that they can recommend? Thanks!

A little further than the EVill, but this is considered to be one of if not the best butchers in the city: http://www.jeffreysonessex.com/
It would be my butcher shop if I lived anywhere within easy walking distance for sure.

Bazynsky's (pronounced Ba-chin-skee) on 2nd ave bet 9th & 10th. A fabulous old school, Polish butcher. The prices are incredible, the quality is amazing and the butchers are characters. I know it's a bit of a walk, but don't even mess around with anyone else...it's well worth it!

May as well fifth Baczynski's (also called East Village Meat Market or something alike). They don't have a lot of selection (no prime-aged meat, or exotic game meats), but the price is amazing. If you are looking for something special, you should call ahead and make sure they have what you need in stock.
I, on the other hand, purchase most of the "cooked" or deli items from Baczynski's. They have amazing bacons, hams, polish sauages, etc. Most importantly, they have HEADCHEESE. The real old-fashioned headcheese (3 kinds) which is not available any other grocery stores/butchers in Manhattan and much better than the German headcheese at Grand Central or Dean and Deluca. They also have somem unique finds like schmaltz (chicken fat), jellied pig's feets, everything done the old-fashioned way.

The ham steak from Baczynski's is like buttah.
