Best Way to Keep a Stainless Steel Pan Stainless
I just broke out my new stainless steel Calphalon frying pan. Does anyone have any good tips on keeping the pan looking stainless? Is there anything special I should/shouldn't do (I already know not to put it in the dishwasher)? It looked so bright and shiny right out of the box, and I would love to keep it that way!

Bon Ami is great for cleaning stainless. Barkeeper's Friend too, I hear, though I haven't used it.

i only use barkeeper's friend. it works great. wet pan sprinkle on and make a paste. cover what needs to removed and let sit for about 5-10 min. then scrub lightly and it will be perfect all over again.

Bar Keeper's friend is the only thing I use. If you have a baked on, burned on or otherwise icky looking mess take the powder and make a paste with water and leave it on in 10 min increments. It works like a charm.

I'll throw in my support for Bar Keeper's too...I use my saute pan almost daily and it still looks like it just came out of the box.

Hooray for Barkeeper's Friend!!! It's all I use and my husband uses my pans too. Once some oil got burned in it and it was black. I was scared but it came out good as new.

i use baking soda for everyday cleaning and barkeepers for burned on stuff. it works just as well as powdered cleansers most of the time and rinses much more easily.

Martha Stewart says that occassionally (once a month or so) she will put her stainless steel pots and pans through the dishwasher - says it keeps then looking new. Not her non-stick, of course. I put my All-Clad frying pan in and was very pleased.

I've simply used those green 3M scrub pads. Never have had a problem. On rare occasion when something stains the pan, I'll break out the Bon Ami-like product.
I am only concerned about the interior. The bottoms are fairly dark.

I just read that you should spread a thick layer of ketchup on the pan, leave it for a few minutes and then wipe clean to reveal a shiny, stain-free pan. I have not yet tried it. It could be the work of the Ketchup Advisory Board.
