Anyone Going Out for NYC Restaurant Week?

I'm super excited for my reservations at Aquavit Cafe and Cafe Boulud for lunch (on consecutive days, oy!).

Is anyone else taking advantage of the great deals??

I usually end up disappointed by my RW meal, so I was going to avoid it... but I made a last minute decision to go to Devi, and was pleasantly surprised.

The service was great, the selection of food was way better than most RW menus, and it didn't "feel" like it was RW...

Generally, I go to RW for the sake of trying out new restaurants. The best ones are usually from Danny Meyer owned restaurants (e.g. Eleven Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern).

The past week I've tried Matsugen for lunch. I was disappointed in their RW menu so I went a la carte. Later on the week, I went to Dovetail which I was pleasantly surprised with the food and they served an amuse(!). Dessert was a bit lackluster for me.

Future plans for this coming week, I want to try Gramercy Tavern (I don't have a reservation) and Atria (formerly known as Grayz).

@wanderingeater: Funny that, I have a reservation at Atria for tomorrow afternoon. The menu looks really good, so I'm super excited. I'll let you know if it's worth it.

I'm eating at north square tonight, and atria tomorrow. No where else yet but I would love to try out gramercy tavern as well.

One word of warning: make sure the restaurant at which you make a reservation is offering the deal for both lunch and dinner. I've recently eaten at Convivo and Eleven Madison Park for dinner under the assumption they were offering the Restaurant Week deal. Both were, but only for lunch. I was blown away that Eleven Madison Park offered my friend and I the menu for dinner, which was, of course, incredible.

Today, it's lunch at Esca. And hopefully Anthos at the end of the week.

I agree: normally I don't participate because I don't need, nor normally eat, three courses so it's not exactly a money-saver. But these restaurants are ones I don't ordinarily dine at so it's all worth it.

I went to Nobu Next Door and Eleven Madison Park. I wasn't happy with Nobu Next Door. Eleven Madison Park was great. I agree Danny Meyer restaurants are the best choice. I was supposed to go to Cafe Boulud today but my son's school was cancelled and I couldn't get in. My sister went with a friend and said it was delicious but skimpy portions.

I've never been around for Restaurant Week before, but I went to Devi and really enjoyed it.

I don't like Restaurant Week. I mean, I get it, but in my experience the places with good lunch prix fixe deals anyhow, stay the same only it's harder to get reservations, or even worse, I all of a sudden need one; and the places way above my wallet generally don't offer particularly good deals in terms of what they're offering. If you're offering me three of the cheapest things on your regular menu, the things I could be getting anyhow, you haven't really helped introduce me to the wonders of your establishment.

I am the first to admit that it may simply have been my choice of restaurants.

Now, what I LOVE is Wine Week. If you're a regular at most of the places that are part of it, they just keep pouring and pouring and pouring. Sweet.

Anyhow, what my first couple of RW's showed me, and for which I will be forever grateful, is a bunch of really good restaurants that have really good prix fixe meals all the time. I go to them often, but never, ever, during Restaurant Week.

the few times i've done restaurant week, i felt like i was being served banquet food at a two star hotel. yuk.
