Where to find good Xiao Long Bao!? (Chinese Soup Dumplings)
Anyone know where to get great Xiao Long Bao aside from Shanghai Joes (wasn't a fan)?

I don't know... My go to place has closed. Goodie's on Chatham Square. They are sorely missed. If you find anything, or if anyone else has a suggestion, please let us know.

Probably the best ones are in Flushing. Just go, get off the subway, walk into any one of those dingy grubby little places and prepare to have your palate blown off. The place my mom and I used to go to was called ren ren cafe, but I think they closed.

I tend to like ALL soup dumplings, so I'm not a very good judge of where to get the ...good ones, but I like the ones from Shanghai Cafe (along with most of their dumplings!) and Grand Sichuan International. I've had the ones from Famous Sichuan a few times and they're meatier than most others I've had...still good, just different.

I used to like the one's at Joe's Shanghai and Joe's Ginger on Pell (the other locations in manhattan aren't so good) but I feel like they're not as good as they used to be. Shanghai Cafe on Bayard is really good for soup dumplings, but I don't think I've had anything else there. Joe's Shanghai in Flushing still remains as my favorite.

My guess is Soup_Dumpling is the expert here. :)

Joe's Shanghai on Pell Street in Chinatown or in Flushing. Best. Other good food there too. I want to go now.

The OP specifically said they didn't like Joe's Shanghai.

Joe's Shanghai is sort of hit or miss, but when they hit they hit. There is a place on Bowery just above/below where it intersects with Pell - red sign with yellow lettering, it's PACKED for weekend lunchtime and they make great soup dumplings. I've heard very good things about Flushing, any specific places?

shanghai cafe. 100 mott street. hands down. their green onion pancakes and their rice cake dishes are amazing as well. btw. joe shanghai in china town is better than their location in midtown.

A good frozen brand is by PrimeFoods. They make a variety of dumplings too but only recently noticed them making soup dumplings. I usually see them sold in larger asian supermarkets for 3 bags for $11.

@pjracz: here's one. Haven't tired it, I was thinking of doing it for the Lunar New Year. A lot of work, but hey, we're talking about soup dumplings here. It's got to be worth it. Plus you know exactly what's going in them...
