What's your favorite simple sandwich?

When you want a simple sandwich, what do you make? PB&J? Ham and Swiss with mayo on white bread? Grilled cheese with one slice of cheese and some butter? No Reubens please, even that's too elaborate an answer for this question ... Seriously, eaters, what's your simple sandwich pleasure?

Pepper & eggs on toast sandwich.

Summer: Slab of beefsteak tomato, mayo, s&p on soft white bread.

Bacon on buttered toast or in combo with either of the above sandwiches

Tavern ham & swiss on rye or pumpernickel w/mayo & brown mustard. Lettuce if I have it.

PB&J on soft white bread. (strawberry jam, orange marmalade or grape jelly)

it was for quite a long time roast chicken with plenty of mayo in between two slices of very fresh challah.

now it's a thin slice of mild cheese on toast with a light smear of jam.

Chive cream cheese, avocado and tomato if it's tomato season. On an everything bagel if possible.

Two scrambled eggs (with just a tad of salt and pepper) on plain white bread.

bologna, tomato, mayo and pepper on white--mmmm, slap yo' momma good!

toasted wheat bread, tomato and cheese

Goat cheese and bagged spring mix on toast. Yummy with tomato soup.

There is too many go on about and depending on my mood, sometimes I crave two pieces of white bread with mayo and turkey, other times a simple scrambled eggs with salt, pepper and and a few drops of tabasco on white or wheat, buttered on well toasted bread with a sprinkle of cheese on top. Grilled cheese. Egg salad.

Really simple? A slice of freshly-baked bread (or a roll) with butter and sea salt. Can be followed by a slice of cheese (sometimes with Branston pickle) or a slice of bologna with Colman's mustard, but the simplest one is just that - bread, butter and salt (the bread absolutely has to be freshly-baked though).

Variations: avocado or cream cheese or ricotta instead of butter (definitely no cheese or bologna in this case), also with sea salt.

cheddar cheese and tomato on whole grain bread with mayo and s&p.

I love a soft onion roll, with some chive or vegetable cream cheese. Or another simple treat would be a toasted english muffin or bialy, with cottage cheese and sliced tomato

grilled cheese with something, like either tomato or ham.

or does a salmon w/cream cheese bagel count as simple?

haven't had this since college, but I'm starting to miss it reading all these. I know it sounds a little weird, but it's really, really good. for a sandwich, anyways:

fried egg, cheese (american or cheddar), and jam on bread. grape or black raspberry is good. mmmmm.

ESBLT (egg salad blt).

creamy peanut butter on wheat bread

peanut butter and bacon.

I have a few more favourite (all on thinly sliced toasted bread, rye, multigrain or whole wheat):

*a mixture of butter, white miso, garlic and chives
*ricotta and grape jam, sea salt on top
*butter and orange marmalade (also sprinkled with sea salt)
*fried egg and ketchup
*egg salad and thinly sliced cornishons
*butter, ham and whole grain mustard (or Colman's & cranberry sauce, my latest fave)

That really thinly sliced shaved pastrami on toast with cream cheese...yum!

Left over cold meatloaf, mayo on white. yum.

White bread, peanut butter, open-faced. It doesn't get any simple than that. If I'm eating while I'm walking around, I might fold it in half to eat it.

If there's no white bread, then it would be whatever bread and butter. Maybe toasted if I'm feeling fancy.

Fried egg, and cheddar on an english muffin. Mm...

Grilled cheese with ham. Grilled cheese with bacon. Any grilled cheese, on wheat.

2 slices Wegmans whole wheat bread
2 slices bacon, fried
2 eggs beaten, seasoned with salt, pepper and smoked paprika
bit of cheese (cheddar usually, but whatever good melty cheese i have on hand works)

actually...now I'm hungry and would like to be eating in 5 minutes. So sandwich time it is.

oooh...I could go on forever about my fave sandwich comos but a few of my go to's are

-mayo, dijon, tomato cucumber, and red onion on wheat.
-egg salad [boiled eggs mashed with mayo, dijon, sweet relish, and tons of pepper] on wheat
-tuna [1 can tuna, mayo, dijon, sweet relish, white or red onion, pepper], tomato on wheat
-fried egg, cheddar or jack, thin layer of mayo, dijon or whole grain mustard on sourdough

I asked the question to see if the meat of my own fave would pop up somewhere. In all these tasty answers it hasn't yet: Liverwurst sliced about 1/4" thick, sweet onion 1/8" thick, with Meunster and Hellman's on a toasted light rye.

I don't know if its my favorite, but I eat it everyday for lunch. Turkey on toasted whole wheat with cranberry mustard, goat cheese, thin sliced cucumber and baby spinach-pretty darn satisfying. I also love a good bagel with cream cheese, lox, onions, capers and tomato, thats probably my fave.

I had just come back from living in New York for 7 years, moved into my girlfriends home who was into a "no meat" phase because of her two young boys Anyway Vera & I passed a tiny health food store & I had the "sanga" - sandwich It was avocado spread onto multigrain bread, then it had sliced hard boiled eggs and alfalfa sprouts on top. 29 years later I still hanker for that sandwich

Boar's Head turkey with some type of cheese rolled up in a tortilla with mayo and mustard. Quick, uncomplicated, portable.

peanut butter, on wonder bread :)

I'd have to agree with the fried egg contingent cheap white bread toasted just enough to make it warm, and a fried egg with the yolk cooked hard and a slice of american melted on top. also helps if you schmear the bread with a little ketchup. I used to eat those back in the day when we were lucky to afford the ingredients. lol We also used to by pulled pork from the grocery deli, after 9pm when they marked it way down to get rid of it, we'd also buy a stale loaf of rye bread and lightly toast it add pulled pork and there was dinner.

Nice, soft, chewy plain bagel (don't like toasted/crunchy/dry bagels), grilled smoked salmon, and mayo.

The best version of the above is sold at the shop couple doors down and includes bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Not even a fan of bacon, but the flavors blend so beautifully. Dammit, wish they were open today.

Guess it's back to sour dough bread, sour cream and onion potato chips, and french onion dip sandwich.
