What's your fast food guilty pleasure?

I am sure we all do our best to avoid greasy, ultra-processed fast food items. Inevitably there are times when the reliable taste, convenience, or low prices are too much to resist. What fast food item breaks your diet self-control?

90 Comments:

McDonalds cheeseburger Happy Meal .. with a prize! I give it to one of the grands.

Krystals!! OMG sometimes I get the worst craving for them, but we don't have any here =(

I have a soft spot for Cluck U wings. I crave them a couple of times a year, even though I can (and do) make great chicken wings myself. But it has nothing to do with convenience (OH needs to take a special trip to get them) or low prices (they are not very cheap, anyway), it's their bloody good sauce!

Mine was reinforced in college. Taco Bell Beef Baja Chalupa. So unhealthy, but so tasty. The TB was right next to all the campus bars. After a night of drinks, health is one of your lowest priorities when making food choices.

Taco John's - it's a western thing. Kicks Taco Bell's ass. I like a Taco Bravo, the bean burrito, and Potato Oles.

taco f'ing bell! i can't stay away even though everything in the place tastes the same. if i'm trying to be healthy it's tough to beat a baked potato and salad from wendy's.

every christmas eve there must be KFC, also I get a craving once in a while for krystals chix SO is already prepared for the KFC run tomorrow, I missed it last year, and I MUST have it this year!!

Popeye's or Cane's chicken.
McDonald's fries.
McDonald's soft serve sundae with caramel and hot fudge.

Curly fries. And I don't even like regular french fries. It's the seasoning they put on them.

Does In & Out Burger count? I am completely guilt-free about it...but whenever I land in Cali my first order of biz is a double-double with a vanilla shake.

nuggets or strips at chick-fil-a

Cane's chicken tenders on occasion lure me in with their siren song...

I'm with the Taco Bell addicts. What is it about that uniformly orange cheese sauce? ....So bad yet soooo good.

KFC or McDonald's Big Breakfast...love that sausage!

KFC mashed potatoes and gravy. I will eat (and have eaten) an entire tub of it in a single sitting.

Quarter Pounder with cheese...or Egg McMuffin with hash browns

Like everyone else it seems, taco bell is my poison of choice, the only one I get genuine cravings for.

I have a few; Taco Bell taco supreme hard shell tacos, Chick Fil-A chicken sandwich with waffle fries and grilled cheese and tator tots from Sonic.

@Traveller - you and my OH, both! He even says that he's quite certain there are no real potatoes in KFC mashed potatoes, but he still loves them on occasion.

A big ol bag of taco bell tacos the crispy one....and micky Ds double cheeseburger

I have a sentimental attachment to Taco Time, which is a chain that I think started in Idaho, although there are a few in CA now. Their crisp meat burrito is basically a flour tortilla wrapped around mystery ground meat and deep fried so you have a cylinder about an inch and a half in diameter and 8 inches long. Perfect for dipping into their salsa.

If I'm really stuck, I also like a McDonald's snack wrap or hot fudge sundae.

I feel no guilt about going to In&Out, Fatburger, Whataburger or Burgerville - none of which are easily accessible to me.

@Brooke29: I am the same way! I *know* that there simply cannot be anything natural in that stuff, but that's probably why I love it so much. And normally, i am a lumpy, skin-on mashed potato lover, but there is just something about those that I cannot resist!

I now have a confessino to make: Despite having lived many years without much, if any, money, being a poor student at various educational levels, I have never once eaten at a Taco Bell. Apparently, I am missing out on something. So, if there is one thing - end all and be all - that I should try first (knowing that I am midly lactose intolerant) what should it be?

Big Mac-I feel guilty for days after I eat one!
Burrito Supreme- I feel gross for days after that!
Of course In-n-Out! Thank goodness there are none in New Mexico.

I get a craving very occasionally for a Double Whopper with Cheese (and all toppings) with a side order of onion rings. Then I pretty much immediately regret it.

I generally don't eat fast food, not because I'm trying to be healthy, but because I just don't like the food. However, though I'm not even tempted by a burger from McDonalds, BK, Wendys, whatever, I absolutely LOVE White Castle cheeseburgers! The ultimate in greasy gut-bombs! Every couple months (usually after a cocktail-filled night) I pick up a dozen sliders.

@Traveller You could start with just a basic taco (crunchy or soft). It would give you a basic intro to the general favor of TB food. Also, the cheese is on top so you can remove as much as you want.
Gorditas and Chalupas also come with cheese on top. They have a pita like shell, and for the chalupa it is fried. I'm not sure if any of the mystery sauces would contain lactose, but they sure are tasty,

*I never knew how much Taco Bell knowledge I had stored in my brain.

Anything from Taco Bell and a roll-aid chaser.

-I eat one or two Big Macs a year. Sometimes I get a craving. The last one I got was nasty - way too much sauce.
-Egg McMuffins & hash browns
-Popeye's
-BK Whopper Juniors

I was a huge fan of the chicken mcnuggets before they switched to all white meat (pretty sad but I preferred the unhealthy nonwhite nuggets slathered in sweet and sour sauce or honey also a hige fan of the quater pounder with cheese and fries but I haven't been to McD's in years.
There are not many around her but my other fave used to be Roy Roger, they have an amazing roast beef sandwich that is awesome with the horseradish sauce.
Pudgie's chicken- thighs please and cole slaw. MMMM Grease.

My ultimate BAD lunch that I was able to justify through my pregnancy:
McDonald's filet o' fish (I call it a fishwich - hubby claims I made that up) with lettuce, tomato, and big mac sauce added - don't ask for special sauce...they don't seem to know what it is...WTF?!?

THEN I go to Penn Station (East Coast Subs) for their homemade lemonade and FRESH handcut french fries that are usually made to order depending on what time you get there.

Gotta hit McD's first so the fries are still hot when you get home. I was ordering sides of big mac sauce to dip the fries in until I figured out that it's their tartar sauce mixed w/ketchup. Now I can just make my own. :P

Wendy's chocolate shake
MickyD's fries

As much as I enjoy eating a fast food burger, burrito, or chicken sandwich, they don't tempt me as much as the fast food sweets. I can't resist a Wendy's Frosty, a McDonald's hot fudge sundae, or a Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfait. Is Krispy Kreme considered a fast food joint? Their original glazed dougnnuts are like soft pillows of melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness when they are fresh and hot.

There are not many fast food things I like but there are a few.
I love a taco bell mexican pizza now and then.
Wendy's frosty in the summer.
Lemonade from Aunt Annie's
When we go to NC I have to have Bojangles chicken and Cook out burgers.
Recently I discovered Chick-FilA and the sandwiches are not half bad.
I like a Nathan's hot dog also great fries and hotdogs from Costco.

Taco Bell bean burrito with no onions + three packets of Hot sauce.

KFC - extra crunchy with hot sauce - I just love it - I don't even know if they do "extra crunchy" anymore, as I try my damndest to stay away - oh, oh, I'm reaching for my car keys!

@Esmerelda you're right, somehow I didn't even think to include Krispy Kreme HOT FRESH NOW glazed doughnuts.

I need to go fan myself now.

@MaresyDotes McDonalds changed the name of that fish sandwich? Wasn't that is what they were called a ton of years ago? I forgot. lol.

Dick's Drive In's- cheseburgers, fries w/tartar.

McDonalds- (not one near me for miles so it has been years since I hav been there) Qrt pounder w/cheese and the dbl size fries.
Burger King (not one near me ) A whopper with cheese and the dbl fries.
KFC- ( not even a pipe dream near me) But when I drive 10 miles and they are around they have these bowls I like.
Jack in the Box-those new bowls they make, the breakfastjack an a dbl fries.
Wendys (this is a joke how far this place is from me)- I have to have the chilli, any burger will do, fries and the shake they make.
Taco time- They have this huge buritto that I get with chicken and those potatoes
These places used to be all around the Univ Dist in Seattle and they took almost all in indicated away. Right now the closest one is Jack in the Box and Dicks.

Funny story: Two weekends ago I went to a Chicago Bulls game and they gave out coupons for a free Big Mac if the Bulls scored more than 100 points at the game I went to. Well they did so I decided to redeem my coupon and try a Big Mac for the first time!

But usually I get a hamburger only ketchup from any of the fast food chains.

Hillary
Chew on That

KFC. Gods, I love KFC so much that original recipe fried chicken was meat I ate when I stopped being vegetarian. Not ironically, this year I discovered I'm allergic to MSG... and what's one of those 11 herbs and spices? Sigh.

McDonald's cheeseburgers. An occasional treat, but I love 'em when I get them.

Krispy Kreme. I'm from North Carolina. We base sports events around those doughnuts. I'm sure in Heaven, the "hot doughnuts now" sign is always lit. Enough said.

Cook-out. Watermelon milkshakes in summer and the divine eggnog milkshakes in summer. The other months of the year ain't bad, but I know people who come from out of state (and rightly so) for those milkshakes.

Bojangle's sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit with a side of potato wedges. Brunch of champions.

Fish tacos from Baja Fresh.

@Traveller--I too, lived many years as a poor student and have never ingested Taco Bell, and I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, so I probably never will!

I ate an awful lot of fast food growing up--it didn't seem like it at the time, but I did, so I think I'm kind of 'tapped out' of it. I did go through several phases when I loved it as a kid, and as a grad student often craved Starbucks mocha fraps and maple walnut scones.

@Jerzee- Costco hot dogs are THE BEST! Huge hebrew nationals with lightly toasted buns, slathered in spicy mustard, onions, relish and mayo...I am officially drooling.

Also a sucker for KFC chicken thighs, apple-cranberry juice slushes at Sonic, tortilla soup at Baja Fresh, chili at Wendy's...and I dont know if you would really consider it fast food but I would DIE for the french onion soup and an asian chicken salad from Panera Bread.

Jrecks turkey sub with lots of hot pepper relish, Taco Bell 7 layer burrito or a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza with extra cheese (hangs head in shame).

i adore a & w root beer floats, or a caramel sundae at dairy queen! haven't had either of those in many years, though.

@cybercita--I always loved DQ's dilly bar. I wonder if Dennis the Menace is still their "theme character?"

@cybercita...a&w is a craving of the bf, a least 4 times a summer.
i love bojangles and popeys and kfc. and a grinder and wings from house of pizza. mon ku's bonless ribs...i need a wet nap..

I love to dip Wendy's Frosties, and it's even better when you dip french fries in them ... sooo good!

Taco Bell Cheezy Gordita Crunch
White Castle Hamburger
National Coney Island coney with cheese fries
Outback Steakhouse Aussie Fries

Wendy's double cheeseburger and a frosty.

If I had to go to McDonald's. it would be a quarter-pounder with cheese.

When I feel queasy, I crave a Burger King whopper with cheese and a vanilla shake.

I eat from those places about once every 2 or 3 years. It's not a health or diet issue, I just tend to eat lunches at home most of the time, and I'm not all that crazy about the food to want to go there any more often.

As for KFC, about once a year or so my MIL will have us over for dinner, and she'll serve KFC. BUT, she gets 8 pieces of chicken for 4 people, and you know that 2 are wings and 2 are weird pieces with not enough meat, Those 8 pieces might be enough for the 2 guys. Maybe. And the second disappointment is that she never gets the cole slaw. Honestly, that's my favorite thing at KFC, and I'd be happy eating a big bowl of that and forget the rest. However, even with the lack of meat and slaw, those KFC dinners are about the best ones we have at her house.

Arby's potato cakes dipped in horsey sauce. So wrong, but so right.

Carl's Jr. $6 burger, no onions.
McDonald's apple pies and McNuggets with sweet & sour sauce.
Panda Express orange chicken.
In&Out double double.
Sonic chicken toaster sandwich.

There, I'm done. And starving.

@HeartofGlass: Frankly, although I used to love it, I no longer really like Mexican food. I cannot even walk into a Mexican restaurant without feeling ill. I won't go into the details, but let's just say that being forced to dissect someone after lunches involving tortilla chips somewhat impedes the future enjoyment thereof.

Popeye's, spicy, dark, 2 (or 3) pieces, with a side of slaw to kid myself that I'm getting a vegetable.

Taco Bell's 7-layer burrito was pretty good - do they still make that?

What Cybercita said - DQ caramel sundae, with Spanish peanuts!

I love all French Fries - except soggy/cold ones. Also fake cheese, preferably hot like in those movie theatre "nachos". McDonald pies and caramel sundaes are also pretty tasty.

Yeah, I have to admit that Popeye's is a weakness I will occasionally (a few times a year) give in to, though for the past two years, I haven't (only because there is no Popeye's here where I live.

I don't know if they have these in Utah anymore (or elsewhere for that matter), but I would love to go to Eat-A-Burger and get a bucket of spicy fries and barbeque dipping sauce. The "bucket" was basically a 32 oz cup. I shudder to think of the calories and saturated fat I consumed, but they rocked!

A huge coffee roll from Dunkin Donuts.

When McD's ran the double Filet-o-Fish I started calling it "Heaven on a Bun". Regular FoF ratio of fish to bread is too much bread IMHO. I'm sure they would make it for me any time of year if I asked but I save it as a guilty pleasure during Lent when it's a regular menu item.

My guilty pleasure for the rest of the year: Taco Bell Beef MexiMelt and a Fresco Chicken Soft Taco (love the Fresco salsa) with a large Coke.

McD's double cheeseburger and large fries. Great to stuff a stomach, but doesn't do much for the heart.

Almost anything from Taco Bell, curly fires from Arby's or fries from Rally's, macaroni and cheese from KFC, fresh double cheeseburgers from McD's

I have a weak spot for Arby's roast beef sammies but I haven't had one in years...
But I will confess to consuming several Dick's burgers here in Seattle recently...

@buffy:Oh, anything at all from Panda Express. Not such a guilty pleasure, either: fresh and clean, lots of vegetables.

@Mares and emilydev: Popeye's! I only got to eat there once before moving 150 miles away (there's one closer, but not by much). The chicken was way too greasy, but the fried okra was amazing.

taco time-- fish taco and tots with extra jalopenos!

Hi there! Long time "listener," first time "caller",

Had to speak up--does anyone else know Mighty Taco? I've been out of Buffalo for two months now and on lunch from work I'd kill for a chicken or steak fajita or rostito, or a nacho cheese burrito...SOOO much better than Taco Bell. Real, actual food for the same price as TB's orange sauce (which, of course, has its own charm.)

Other than missing Mighty Taco and strongly considering bribing someone to bring me as burrito, TB's cheesy gordita crunch (with chicken, can't stand the ground beef), and Wendy's Bacon Cheeseburgers are my only other FF cravings.

@Jerzee and Jenilo... I miss cookout so much, the first thing I do when I go back to my college town is get a cookout shake and cajun fries and a burger!

...I wish they had Cookout in NYC...

My absolute favorite is a double cheeseburger and order of fries from McD's with KFC crispy strips and a side of mashed potatoes running a close second. Can't remember the last time I had either. I also think Arby's curly fries with whatever that horseradish sauce stuff is are good and Taco Bell tacos are one of my hangover cures.

Sonic tater tots. Yum.
Jack in the Box tacos. So mysterious and so good.

McDonald's fries...extra large, with extra salt. I dump them into the brown paper bag (which in my mind soaks up some oil--ha), salt them, and eat them while driving. My excuse for a road trip.

I forgot about the wonderful McRib! haha. I shudder to think at what is really in that boneless pork that has been reconstituted with rib like grooves (ever notice that the grooves are only on top? haha!). But slather that baby in barbecue sauce, top with a pickle and onion, put it on a bun and it is pretty tasty. Of course it could just be the "back for a limited time" aspect that always gets me. I always enjoy it though.

Burger King chicken sandwich--processed chicken fried in a peppery crust, mayo, crispy iceberg lettuce-- it all just seems to work in some divine white trash-y way....Yum!

BK double cheeseburger and fries. The flame-broiled taste can't be beat. And I love BK fries, better than Mickey D's.

@cyberroo: If not Taco John's, we go to the Taco Time (which is technically closer to my house). My fiance also craves A&W now and again, he LOVES their coney dogs. Here in Casper, WY we also have a chain called Peaches, and their hamburgers and fried chicken are hella good.

Ok - what is this Cookout everyone's talking about?? I've never heard of them but that watermelon shake sounds amazing!!

McD's immediately out of the fryer fries. Not fresh? I'll wait, then.

@Caramel: Cookout is a burger chain in North Carolina... They have really yummy burgers and fries (their cajun seasoning on the fries is fantastic) but what they are really known for are their shakes... Sooooooo many different flavors that are year round, and then there are seasonal shakes, like Egg Nog... Watermelon is a seasonal one as well I think? Think of Cookout Shakes as love... in sippable form.

HOLY HELL!!! POPEYE'S SPICY WITH DIRTY RICE and a side of SPICY FRIED CHICKEN LIVERS..... did y'all get that... so if y'all send me a bunch of all these things, my wife can't bitch because I didn't buy it...it was a gift.... and you can't give gifts back.

- anything from KFC (especially their Honey BBQ wings). Those biscuits are so bad for you, but amazing.
- Wendy's chicken nuggets. Five for $1 -- I can't resist!
- fresh, hot McDonald's french fries with a dusting of salt and plenty of ketchup

A five guys cheeseburger (Orlando) or an Illegal Pete's fish burrito if in Denver. They are both a few minutes longer than fast and worth every minute.

Five Guys baby burger and their delish fries! I'm not even a fast food junkie (hate McDonald's) but Five Guys is the best. Once you try them, the craving will go on forever!

- one of those Taco Bell Bowls (I just tried their Baja Chicken something on a Military Base..oh. my. gosh. 10 months without Taco Bell and if I were a cream-filled donut, I would've exploded filling everywhere for that first mouthful of yum)
-Chik-fil-A chicken fingers. mmmmmm
-Arby's curly fries--when I was little, we went on roadtrips often, and whenever I saw an Arby's I'd tell my dad I had to use the restroom so I coud get curly fries!!!. There was one between our house and my grandmothers and I knew EXACTLY which hill it was over to see the Arby's on top.

McDonald's-Big Mac, apple pie, sausage and egg biscuit.
Burger King- Whopper junior with cheese
Wendy's- french fries and chicken nuggets with barbeque sauce and Popeye's Spicy Chicken- wings preferred

Chik-fil-a sandwich with two packets of mayo, black pepper and extra pickles.
Arby's super roastbeef sandwich (the one with lettuce and tomato, nothing else) with two packets of horsey sauce.
Rally's seasoned fries.
KFC original recipe with hot sauce and honey, mashed potato and gravy, and cole slaw.
I used to love whoppers and big macs, but lately all the McD's and BK stuff taste microwaved, not cooked to order or even cooked on-premise...blech! I remember the charbroilers smoking at BK way back in the day...these days it seems Bk's are only outfitted with a fryer and a microwave.

Ooohhh. Big mac and large fries. Popeye's extra spicy chicken. Double whopper w/ cheese. Sausage egg mcmuffin w/cheese and hash browns. I LOVE fast food. Love it. Well, the above specific fast food. I only eat it maybe 4 times a year, always get kinda sick, and find it totally worth it.

My guilty pleasure is Godiva Chocolates.I dont get them very often but my husband always buys them for our anniversary and yes,I confess I eat them all and my favorite ones are the white chocolate stars filled with raspberry fillings,so much for the diet.Julie Lowe

I have tons.

In-n-Out double-double animal style.
2 tacos from Jack in the Box.
I actually like Whoppers for some reason and get the craving sometimes.
Taco Bell stuff with lots of fire sauce.

KFC bowl. We make them at home sometimes with leftovers, but they just aren't the same.

Sonic onion rings. So REAL! Do any other chains have real onion rings?
I love a good shake, a malt's even better. Who makes them with real milk and dairy-not-nondairy ice cream?

I agree with Sonic Onion Rings, plus Jack in the Box tacos! Hmm and Sonic popcorn chicken.

A Five Guys hotdog with mustard - they slice the dog in half and griddle it until it's crunchy. YUM.

I have it my way with a hot ham n cheese croissant.
