I would love a Kitchen Aid mixer. Will I get it? Probably not as it has been on my list for years.
renee59 at 5:47PM on 12/09/08
I've invented Douglas Fir bitters for gifting.
johnemade at 5:50PM on 12/09/08
a Peugeot pepper grinder. The grinder I have is horrible.
katarina_santiago at 6:02PM on 12/09/08
I would love an Aerogarden. I miss my fresh herbs and here in Syracuse we don't get enough sun for me to successfully grow in a window. I'm probably not going to get one this year, we have a rather rambunctious golden retriever who loved to get into my herbs outside this year. Maybe when she's a bit older. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I can trust my cats either.
dhorst at 6:09PM on 12/09/08
My list is empty. Santa clicked "buy all," and UPS has already started dropping things off.
Bwaa ha ha!
dbcurrie at 6:12PM on 12/09/08
An Easy Bake Oven and an Easy Bake Oven ornament. It was clear until dbcurrie made me lust for them. :-)
PerkyMac at 6:34PM on 12/09/08
@Perk, the ornament is soooo cute. The fact that it smells like cake is a little odd.
But if Simon was asking because he's gonna go buy us stuff, I'd like the SE "Praise the Lard" hoodie. I was about to go buy it when I saw it on the gift suggestions, but then I couldn't decide on colors. If someone else would decide for me, I'd be fine with anything.
dbcurrie at 6:43PM on 12/09/08
When is it not christmas at the Tomato House. I think I will acquire a good deal of my presents at the Emile Henry Warehouse sale this weekend.
Those Mauviel pots are calling me. My husband is very indulgent of my cookware addiction.
JerzeeTomato at 7:04PM on 12/09/08
@Jerzee, you'd be fun to shop with. You are, however causing issues with my bookshelves, because you keep talking about these great cookbooks and then I go look at them and think, "Yeah, that looks good, too."
DH has suggested that maybe what I really need is another bookshelf.
dbcurrie at 7:18PM on 12/09/08
I want a clean kitchen more than anything in the world.
PumpkinBear at 8:55PM on 12/09/08
Is our PumpkinBear on a baking spree perhaps? ;-)
PerkyMac at 9:02PM on 12/09/08
Easy. Plane ticket home so I could spend the holidays with my family.
meg3j at 9:27PM on 12/09/08

ChelleyD01 at 10:10PM on 12/09/08
Oh Chelley ~ My middle name is trouble.
Okay. Back to reality. There is nothing I want for Christmas. That's right, nothing! I have a wonderful life, the most unbelievable husband and an incredible family. I have the greatest friends and this wonderful community called Serious Eats. If I were to ask for anything, it would be for us all to have a joyful and peaceful holiday season, and a KICK-ASS time here on SE in 2009. *chest bump* Anyone? Anyone? Oh, and don't forget! My New Years resolution is to stay on topic!!!!! Let's hear it; Yay izzy!
izatryt at 10:24PM on 12/09/08
@ Iz...no chest bump for you girl, but Id slam some shots with you and my notorious gaggle of sluts at any bullshit bar you want!!!!
YYYYAAAAAAYYYYYY IIIZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYYY!
ChelleyD01 at 11:03PM on 12/09/08
Right, chest bumps won't be so pleasant after the boob job.......
Boo Yaa! Who wants tequila????? And Dang! I love me a gaggle of sluts! Woo Hoo!!!!!
izatryt at 11:20PM on 12/09/08
I don't really want anything for Christmas, haven't really cared that much about wanting this or that for the past few years, since my husband passed away (not being morbid). I enjoy trying to find presents that will surprise my daughter, especially, but also family and friends. To me, the best Christmas present I can get is being with my loved ones.
There are no certainties in life, so make the most of the time you have with your family and friends.
Mares at 11:28PM on 12/09/08
Oh Izzy, you're making me cry. You have echoed my sentiments exactly. I have made peace with not being in Texas for Christmas because I know they miss me as much as I miss them and we're just sending all kinds of love back and forth.
And Mares, peace to you and I'm so with you on the family and friends. Pay attention to the good things around you and appreciate the people and the love.
So Chelley belly~ You goin to lunch with us?
CLINK CLINK!!!!!!!!
carolrsfMISSESTEXAS at 11:47PM on 12/09/08
@Carol....Iz and Perky and I have a standing date since some time ago, but you are welcome to join us anytime!
I can bypass the clinking but am more in favor of the SLAM in between the lick and the suck, so to speak. I need Jesus.
ChelleyD01 at 12:37AM on 12/10/08
@Chell~We're really going. Where are you? Geographically speaking; don't need to know where you "are" in life or your head or anything. Hell. You do shots. Good enough for me.
carolrsfMISSESTEXAS at 12:47AM on 12/10/08
*ahem* to get back to THE TOPIC, all I really need right now is a salad spinner, since I stripped the gears out of mine a couple of weeks ago.
Back to you, Iz and Carol...
hungryinhouston at 1:24AM on 12/10/08
I would like a spice cabinet - one that is one spice jar deep and big enough to hold all my herbs and spices (labels facing out) so that I am not constantly having to empty the cabinet to find the ones I want!
My new stove should be delivered on the 22nd, but the repair guy who told me my current stove was biting the big one told my husband it could not be a Christmas gift! His wife trained him well. The only thing I would have liked on the new one is that it would have been gas. But that would have required a plumber, running gas lines, etc. So electric it is! But it does have a convection oven feature, is stainless steel and a huge oven with 3 racks.
SayWhat at 2:43AM on 12/10/08
HOUSTON~Why don't you get one of those electric ones that lakeloverhh got? You must be spinning the hell out of that salad!?????
It IS all about us though.
carolrsfMISSESTEXAS at 3:34AM on 12/10/08
@houston ~ Just curious. Have you been using for salad spinner for anything other than it's intended use?
izatryt at 8:35AM on 12/10/08
snicker.
Im about 5 hours away from Iz!
ChelleyD01 at 8:53AM on 12/10/08
When is this lunch?
JerzeeTomato at 11:46AM on 12/10/08
Awww, Iz, I'm flattered. I'd love to come sliding down your chimney, any time you like, not just during the holidays....
simon at 1:10PM on 12/10/08
When my parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I didn't really have an answer. I'm kind of asking Santa for a Le Creuset dutch oven, but they're so expensive that it's not going to be a big deal if I don't get one. However, I am going down to Phoenix on Friday for some meetings and just found out the other day that they have a Le Creuset Outlet store ... so I'm hoping I can find something good.
After the thread on gifting for someone in need of a freshly-stocked pantry, I emailed my parents back saying that a gift certificate to Penzey's is what I want. I also encouraged my mother to go to the Pittsburgh store (she's an hour away from that neighborhood) and re-stock her own stuff when the time comes.
joyyy at 1:34PM on 12/10/08
I would love more counter space.
gammypie at 1:54PM on 12/10/08
@ joyyy:
Cooks Illustrated rated the Tramontina 6.5-Qt. Cast Iron Dutch Oven higher than the froufrou one you covet. About 1/4 the price, too.
Garvey at 2:53PM on 12/10/08
A nice espresso machine, and some Le Creuset pots.
eat_a_cookies at 2:59PM on 12/10/08
the new how to cook everything cookbook. and i got my grandmother an aerogarden (tomatoes), which she loved...but they didn't taste that great. i like my tomatoes to taste like sunshine (i know that sounds weird, but really, if you pick tomatoes off a vine on a sunny day, you'll know what i mean)
korovka at 3:14PM on 12/10/08
I would love a full beginner's canning set and a bread machine. How pathetic is that? :-)
mcmillin at 3:32PM on 12/10/08
@Jerzee ~ We are working on a date. The ball is in TEXIE'S court!
izatryt at 5:01PM on 12/10/08
For you Le Creuset lovers - and I am one! - I actually got a Martha Stewart brand dutch oven at Macy's. They're half the price of the Le Creuset ones, and I waited for a sale so I bought it for half price... you do the math! I went with the 5.5 qt. oval dutch oven, and I LOVE IT. There should be some Christmas sales coming up...
CEBakes at 6:20PM on 12/10/08
@simon ~ Butter or olive oil?
izatryt at 6:24PM on 12/10/08
I don't want much, just a Whole Foods market and a New York or S.F. style Farmer's Market in my town. We don't even have a Bakery. I have to go to SF or the Gilroy outlets to find any good kitchen or food items. The only bakery close by is at Costco!!! The nearest Whole Foods Market is 65 miles away and is very tiny.
lamora at 7:16PM on 12/10/08

an apron, new kitchen, new house, dishwasher, dishwasher, something in tall, handsome and .................does dishes.
dearrie at 7:34PM on 12/10/08
ice cream maker!
ReneeRobinson at 11:20PM on 12/10/08
@iz, you make me feel a little greedy, because yes, I have a wonderful husband and I'm happy with my life. On the other hand, everything I really want for Christmas is cooking related, and if I wasn't cooking for my husband, my in-laws and giving away goodies to friends, my cooking needs would be much simpler. So in the end, the stuff that I want ends up making other people happier, too. Or, well, maybe just fatter.
dbcurrie at 12:23AM on 12/11/08
iz - depends on the application. hot or cold? i am partial to sweet almond oil... it's delicious and luxurious, very versatile and doesn't break down during aggressive use. it's also good for cooking.
simon at 12:42AM on 12/11/08
OK you two. You're making me a little jealous. Yeeeaaah, that's the word I'm looking for...
Did he say aggressive?
Anyway... *head shake*
@lamora~aw hell, I have to go back and look at what you said. Hold on.
Oh yeah, it's a little story. When I moved to St Louis after having lived there before briefly, and there was NOTHING there, I was very excited that now there was a Whole Foods. I called my friend in Austin and told her and she, very sweetly, said "My Whole Foods can kick your Whole Food's ass!!!".
She's still my friend.
carolrsfMISSESTEXAS at 1:38AM on 12/11/08
id love a panini press, kitchen food processor, immersion blender and a good espresso maker..
cookieprincess at 6:50AM on 12/11/08
i would love to have most anything for my kitchen. my kitchen and the rest of my house was blown away by cat.4 hurricane paloma back on 8 november. i miss being able to cook a comforting meal in my cosy kitchen. as they say in the islands(cayman brac) SOON COME!! maybe by the end of next summer i will again be back in my kitchen...oh and where are my cookbooks?
iguanablue at 7:09AM on 12/11/08
@Iz,Perky, Jerzee, Chelley, MissesTexas, db et all- Can I come too? I've been on the mend and an exciting gift for me would be to get out of Dodge!
Where shall we go in fantasy land? (and I promise to stay on-topic in '09).
Josdean at 11:16AM on 12/11/08
@Josdean ~ I haven't been invited. I'm also on the mend, but can't leave Dodge yet, except for Fantasy Land (is that different than Fantasy Island - da plane, da plane!?).
I'm getting everything on my Christmas list. All of my girls are coming to PA (from CA & AZ)) and I'm thrilled. Although, maybe one more silpat would come in handy. I bought two more expensive imitations and they are crap.
PerkyMac at 11:51AM on 12/11/08
@iguanablue - where are you located? Wouldn't be Cayman Islands by any chance?
I want a pepper grinder...actually I want 2 pepper grinders. One for black pepper and another for mixed pepper.
erinlovestoeat at 12:17PM on 12/11/08
kitchen aid mixer's always on my list, yet always absent from under the tree. as for things i have a better chance of getting-that would be 'eat me' by kenny shopsin. i borrowed it from the library and loved it so much that i'd really like to make it apart of my permanent collection. oh, and a floor lamp.
gastronomeg at 2:11PM on 12/11/08
The item I wanted most, is on order(I don't take any chances) a digital kitchen scale for all those tricky weight measurements used for baking. For anyone interested, the Lodge Dutch ovens available at Walmarts in several great colors for about $50-$60,does a fantastic job. No need to spend $200 on the snobby French brand.
dmcavanagh at 2:35PM on 12/11/08
@SayWhat - there are these little plastic round things that fit in a normal upper cabinet (think a double-decker plastic lazy susan) that are perfect for spices/boxes of bouillon cubes/boxes of toothpicks and so forth. I have three. =)
akk328 at 3:43PM on 12/11/08
@Garvey - thanks!!!!
joyyy at 7:15PM on 12/11/08
All I really want for Christmas is to have Mr. LoCo here with me so I can cook for him. Luckily, I'm definitely getting that wish. Sadly, it's only for a two-week visit, so I need new kitchen toys to keep me busy after he returns to distant lands. Three months till the next visit. Sigh.
Therefore, in terms of my kitchen-oriented xmas list, it appears that Mr. LoCo and Mr. Claus are collaborating to bring me a ThermaPen (my old digital thermometer died, which made me very happy, because it was a piece of crap); a real boning knife (it's only a matter of time before I lose a hand to the poor substitute I've been using); a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking which has somehow managed to escape my collection for years and years and years; a Kitchenaid stick blender (no more soup exploding out of the jar blender... yay!); a Le Creuset 7qt round dutch oven in satin black (thanks for the feedback, SE Talkers); and a long-handled potato masher (11-1/4" to be exact) to replace the short one I got at a garage sale, for 25 cents, when I moved into my first apartment 25 years ago (the one that's now being held together with a rubberband from a bunch of asparagus).
It's all about the simple things in life, no?
LoCo at 9:04PM on 12/11/08
@LoCo, the Thermapen seems like an expensive tool until you consider the trouble a bad thermometer can cause.
I bought got one last year, and it's amazingly fast and I know it's accurate. And the temperature range is huge, which is nice. I'm really, really glad I splurged on that instead of buying another cheap one.
dbcurrie at 9:29PM on 12/11/08
Black Onyx Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, and my mother is getting it for me this weekend! WOOT! I'm sure she is getting it early so that I can whip up a carrot cake for her LOL!
alesbica at 11:19PM on 12/11/08
@iguanablue, I'm so sorry for what happened to you!! If I knew your address I definately would be sending you a thing or two. My kitchen is overstuffed with kitchen things/gadgets I have received because I am the family "cook".
lamora at 11:53PM on 12/11/08
@iguanablue ~ somehow I missed your post. What a terrible thing you've lived through. I'm glad to hear you're rebuilding. Where are you?
PerkyMac at 12:50AM on 12/12/08
i am located on cayman brac, which is one of the sister islands of the cayman islands. i appreciate everyones comments. rebuilding will be time comsuming but it will happen. we have a population of only 1300 or so and supplies are brought in by barge IF the weathher is not bad but it is winter soon and the winds pick up again. things take time here, you get use to it.my address if POBox137, Cayman Brac, KY2-2101, Cayman Islands.
thanks for your concern...
iguanablue at 6:45AM on 12/12/08
A mandoline. Hopefully you guys will know that I mean the food slicing tool, not the musical instrument. I requested one from my Mom this year, and after clearing up that little detail, she did some research and reported back to me that "for prices like that, it should really have a motor on it!" I am just hoping for an adjustable tool that will last me a long time and is sturdy enough for everyday use.
MollieBeth at 11:13AM on 12/12/08
@iguanablue - I am on Grand Cayman. I have been shocked to see photos of the devastation on Cayman Brac. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, there is a long road ahead, but I know you will come out ok on the other side.
erinlovestoeat at 1:57PM on 12/12/08
@Molliebeth~I got the exact same comment from my mother when I asked for one. Followed by; Can't you just use a knife? sigh...
@Everyone~We're REALLY going to lunch.
carolrsfMISSESTEXAS at 2:57PM on 12/12/08
A macro lens for my camera. Yes, it's food related - I want to start a food/photo blog, and I haven't been happy with most of the closeup pictures I've gotten with my 55mm. Two of my favorite food photo blogs (Smitten Kitchen and Fotocuisine) both mention their macro lenses, and I love me some closeup shots. Hence, I'm hoping Santa really loves me this year.
