Study Snacks

I'm having my lab group (2 people) over to study this evening. I promised snacks.

Since I've been writing papers, studying, etc. etc. I haven't been grocery shopping in forever, and my good-hostess / foodie brain had atrophied.

Given a budget of ~$20, what would you serve? Assume access to a general convenience store / small grocery, not Dean & Deluca.

Thanks in advance, eaters!

Jalepenos - $1.45/lb
Philly Cream Cheese - $1.89/tub
Bacon - $3.00/pack
cream-cheese-stuffed-Jalepenos-wrapped-in-bacon = priceless.

Cheese, crackers, hummus and veggies. Maybe some fresh fruit. Nothing too carb heavy. Protein has been thought to help stimulate brain function. And let's face it, when studying it's easy to fall asleep/zone on a belly full of carbs. Good luck!

Add some coffee and maybe a little something sweet (chocolate, cookies, etc).

An easy cheap favorite of mine used to be salsa and cream cheese mixed in the food processor to form a creamy dip for tortilla chips or even carrots and celery. Always a hit back in the day and easy to keep on hand. Crackers, olives and cheese is always good too. Just make sure your presentation is good and it doesn't really matter how much (or little) you spend.

i'd stay away from anything that could get too messy or spill - you don't need to up the stress of studying with accidental grease blobs or sauce stains on your notes. maybe some mini sandwiches would be good - get a pack of small rolls and pop them in the oven so they are nice and toasty, add some cheese, cold cuts, spreads, etc. - filling and handheld. and don't forget the coffee!

good luck :)

Mixed nuts, hot chocolate, coffee, veggies and dip, cookies. Nothing too exciting, but I loved to snack on these things before studying for a big final. And if you present them nicely, they don't seem boring at all. : ) I love the stuffed jalapenos idea, but it's a bit more time consuming...

A small bowl of lightly salted, roasted nuts would be a great energy-booster, too.

Graham crakers and peanut butter
Popcorn

Popcorn, cheese and crackers, and maybe some yogurt/sour cream dip (like tzaziki). And as a fellow student who just finished today, I can't wish you enough luck! =)

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone!

I served hummus, goat cheese, grapes, baby carrots, crackers, and apple cider.

We had a lot of fun (maybe too much) but managed to get through a semester's worth of lecture slides. Cross your fingers for tomorrow! : )

TEX, sweetie, please don't do that. :(

It makes my browser look ugly. Try spaces between every 10 Xs or so, for my sanity? Cause I'm that special?

Good on you, Lilly. Having fun studying is the only way to ensure that more of it goes on. Good luck!

@Lilly let us know it it went. Good luck

The exam went pretty well, especially considering that it covered more than a thousand powerpoint slides!

One more paper to write, and then I am done for the semester!

Many thanks to all for their good advice and kind wishes.
