Storing lemons

I put lemons in the refrigerator and noticed after a few days they started to get white patches on them, and get soft. I guess I should keep them out on the counter like tomatoes, or use them quicker!

I usually put mine in ziplock bags and then fridge if I am not going to use them immediately...seems to extend their shelf life quite a bit.

I keep mine in the vegetable crisper drawer in the fridge. If I leave them out, they mold and rot in no time flat. If they're not in the veggie bin, they freeze. If you don't think you'll use them up in time, zest them, squeeze them and freeze both in ice cube trays, then pop into a ziplock in the freezer.

My mother brought me a dozen Meyer lemons from her tree. She says that she got tired of juicing them before freezing the juice. Now she just pops whole lemons in the freezer and takes them out to defrost as needed. I'm giving this method a try.

They were probably old and about to turn when you bought them. Mine last a week/ 2 weeks in the fridge.

@Knitter - when my mother had a Meyer lemon tree, she froze the lemons all the time, and it worked great!

I keep my lemons in my fruit bowl at room temperature. I make sure to use them within 1-3 days after I purchase them.

Freezeing whole lemons???? Are you really able to use them like fresh?
