PB and J?
Maybe it's b/c I'm still practically a kid (and, a poor college student), but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches-- I LOVE them!
What is your favourite way to eat them?
Jelly? Jam? Marshmallow fluff? Honey? Banana? Bacon à la Elvis? Pressed in a panini press?
I once saw Paula Deen (I know, I know, she's trying to kill us) spread butter (go figure...) on the outsides of the bread, dip them in sugar, and cook it off. I've done this and let me say, it's fantastic. The sugar gets all burnt and you get that crunch.
Yum!

Natural super crunch peanut butter with either apricot or blueberry preserves on wheat toast. Today for lunch I went with the apricot and a banana to round out the meal. yum

Soft bread, creamy peanut butter, and either honey, blackberry jam, or peach butter piled high.
Toast, crunchy peanut butter, and thick slices of bananas.
Toast, creamy peanut better, and marshmallow fluff.
Yeah, I mostly just love peanut butter sandwiches.
nightowl at 6:22PM on 12/02/08
I LOVE Smucker's grape Goober--I don't care what anyone says. I had a standing order for the stuff when I was in England, at $9 a jar, but I needed my fix!
Kerry Saretsky at 6:22PM on 12/02/08
I'm a mutant. I like my peanut butter and jelly separate. I mean, not on the same sandwich. Separate days would be fine too.
I was the same as a kid. Never liked the combo.
Just for fun, I tried a PB&J sandwich about a year ago. It wasn't horrible, but I still like them better separately.
Funny thing is that as a kid, I told my mother that a peanut butter sandwich had to have BUTTER on it, or it wasn't peanut butter. It wasn't the taste that concerned me, it was what I considered false advertising. If I didn't get butter, I felt like I was being ripped off.
dbcurrie at 6:40PM on 12/02/08
Peanut butter, whole grain bread, chipotle tabasco, and blackberry jam comprise my all time fave. We tried peanut butter, bacon, tomato, and basil - too die for!
Fanciesmom at 6:48PM on 12/02/08
@dbcurrie I'm pretty sure that across the pond they agree with you.
nightowl at 6:54PM on 12/02/08
I love peanut butter and salt, usually on saltines but occasionally on good rye bread. I just dont care for sweet anything with peanut butter. I actually found bacon salt (this is the south so that makes sense) and tried it with peanut butter, NOT my cup of coffee. I like good smoked flaked sea salt with my all natural peanut butter. @Fanciesmom the bacon tomato and basil sound awesome though! I'll have to try that next summer.
huneybumper at 6:56PM on 12/02/08
I never had one and sadly (or not), it doesn't sound enticing enough to make me curious and try it. I grew up on Nutella though, and more often than not, it never makes it to the sandwich as it gets eaten off the spoon.
My OH, on the other hand, loves PB&J sandwiches. He has them on toasted bread, with Wegman's organic peanut butter and home-made red grape jam (jelly). I know he most likely is just kissing arse, but he claims my grape jelly beats any other grape jelly he's ever had in PB&J sandwiches. Still, I'll take that.
brooke29 at 6:57PM on 12/02/08
Soft wheat bread, creamy peanut butter spread thinly on both pieces of bread, and strawberry jam in the center. Exquisite.
SaraGarrigan at 6:58PM on 12/02/08
My fave is peanut butter and a chunky mango chutney. A couple of those on whole wheat bread tucked into my bag keep me from getting desperate on long multi-connection overseas plane/train trips.
lemons at 7:01PM on 12/02/08
@huney- Where in the South do you find bacon salt? I'm from TN!
meg3j at 7:02PM on 12/02/08
I like my PB and J's made a head of time, and put in the fridge so that the J (jam, jelly, etc) soaks into the bread a little bit and the bread gets soft. Err, so the "flavors have time to meld". Does this make me a bad person?
ag3208 at 7:24PM on 12/02/08
@ag- No, that makes you brilliant.
meg3j at 7:28PM on 12/02/08
Natural creamy honey peanut butter and homemade strawberry jam on soft grain bread when I'm trying to be healthy. Or...Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter (from Peanut Butter & Co.), sliced bananas, honey, and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar on white bread when I'm not.
And milk. Lots of milk.
kimberlymac at 7:55PM on 12/02/08
i love soft butter on before Th pb. i was taught to eat it this way. it stop the Pb from sticky to the roof of your mouth. not that that's a bad thing. and a large glass of very cold milk.
dearrie at 8:18PM on 12/02/08
Grilled, crunchy peanutbutter only, no jelly,on honey oat bread, is the way we roll.
dhorst at 8:24PM on 12/02/08
I just packed a PB & J today to take with me to work for lunch! White bread, reduced fat PB, and seedless strawberry jelly. I know, kinda boring, but YUM!!! Sure beats the nasty cafeteria food at my workplace!
goldie725 at 8:48PM on 12/02/08
peanut butter and bacon (not Smithfield bacon) is the only way I roll. Except for my first love, peanut butter and butter.
Keight at 8:52PM on 12/02/08
When I visit my dad, I always have a creamy PB and marshmellow fluff sandwich on light wheat bread. It may have no redeeming nutritionally value, but hey. I'm on vacation, right?
TheCheapChick at 10:44PM on 12/02/08
personally my favorite combo is PB & S = peanut butter and spoon!
andrearode at 10:58PM on 12/02/08
@meg believe it or not Kroger carries it. But to me anyway it's just not very good, although its fair in scrambled eggs and damn fine on popcorn!
huneybumper at 11:10PM on 12/02/08
I make it for my daughter on a brioche with peanut butter, concord grape jelly, and chocolate sauce. She loves it. I eat leftovers, if there are ever any :)
5starfoodie at 12:06AM on 12/03/08
White or wheat squishy bread, creamy peanut butter (brand doesn't matter) and grape jelly (I usually get Welch's)
smile at 12:41AM on 12/03/08
My brother got me hooked years ago on PB&J with Rice Chex cereal.in the middle
mlcottingham at 2:54AM on 12/03/08
Give it to me all (with the exception of the marshmallow or any type of organ meats) and I will have a big silly grin on my dirty lil face. Doesn't matter what sort of breads, jelly/jams. I did not grow up with PB & J as a kid, I grew up with Nutella so it is always a big treat now as an adult to have this wonderful sandwich of yum. In France I had a PB & J that the bread was made with two pieces of french toast, that was pretty interesting and good.
pjracz10 at 5:43AM on 12/03/08
Creamy Jif or Skippy on Ritz crackers with Smucker's seedless raspberry jam
OR
Thomas' English Muffins, toasted with crunchy Jif and sliced bananas...gets all gooey and delicious.
(And no, I don't work for any of these brand name manufacturers...I just like to be specific about which kinds I like, 'cause there's definitely a difference!)
juliebugsmama at 9:59AM on 12/03/08
Mmmmmm - pb&j!!! We try to eat super-healthy, especially with me all knocked up, so it's whole-grain bread, lightly toasted, spread with peanut butter (I like Jif, but hubby grew up with the all-natural just-ground-peanuts kind and is appalled by that, so we compromise and buy the stuff that's lightly sweetened with honey or molasses and has no hydrogenated oils in it) and either chunky sour cherry preserves or strawberry or grape jelly (the sweetened with fruit juice kind). Love it! Perfect snack or works for any meal.
@pjracz - I am with you on the Nutella!! When I need a treat sometimes I toast a slice of bread and spread it on super-thin, and savor every bite with a cold glass of milk. YUM!
CookiePie at 10:01AM on 12/03/08
@Cookie-- Nutella Panini with Raspberry Jam and Bananas.
Try it next time. It's amazing. Nutella is cheaper than PB here in France. Go figure.
meg3j at 10:39AM on 12/03/08
Mmmmm. Chunk Skippy Peanut butter and banana on whole wheat bread, wrapped up for a while before lunch. It's never as good if you eat it right off the bat.
Peanut butter and potato chip (thin layer of potato chip) on whole wheat.
Definitely PB +S (Thanks @andrearode!)
But nothing beats slightly burnt rye toast with superchunky peanut butter.
chisai at 11:11AM on 12/03/08
@meg3j - I will try that TONIGHT - thanks!!
CookiePie at 12:07PM on 12/03/08
i love super chunky peanut butter paired with bacon.
when i don't have it on hand then i go with fruit compote or preserves.
gastronomeg at 12:19PM on 12/03/08
I am so glad I am not the only one that enjoys a good pb&j. My previous roommates would look at me as if I was crazy when I would make them. Just because I had the genius idea to make one doesn't mean you have to hate me. At least, that's what I said. :) Mmmm, that's a good sandwich. Here's how I like it:
White/Wheat/Sourdough/Rye, toasted or not with:
~Strawberry JAM/preserves is preferred with no lumps (why are there BIG chunks of fruit in jam now?? Uhh).
~I will eat Strawberry/Grape jelly if nothing else is available (usually over my parents/aunts house). No lumps please.
~Fluffernutter is just delish
~Creamy/Chunky/Extra Chunky JIF. I LOVE them all.
~I will eat Skippy if I have to but that's about it, no other substitutions
~Pressed/Grilled-Banana, Peanut Butter, Cinnamon/Sugar mix, and Honey = mmmm
~Peanut Butter and Cheese sandwich
~I've been known to have Ritz/Saltine pb&j sammies a time or two
~Pb&j on a spoon
~FRESH ONLY. Sorry @ag3208. To me, a pb&j made ahead of time is the worst. That's why I never have them for lunch during the week. It's either dinner or lunch on the weekends.
@meg3j: That sounds great!! I am going to have to try that.
Ohhh, have you ever made peanut butter (you can add jelly/jam if you want) ritz sandwiches and then dip them in chocolate, then freeze/refrigerate. Oh my gosh. Soooo good.
Isn't peanut butter one of the best things, ever?
Butrflygirly at 2:21PM on 12/03/08
I actually have a secret love... Uncrustables by Smucker. They are so yummy and you can take them anywhere and not have a squished sandwich.
ddvierra68 at 2:52PM on 12/03/08
Grape or raspberry jelly with creamy or crunchy peanut butter on challah bread. Mmmmm...

mmmmm I LOVE peanut butter sandwiches, my favorites:
1. 100% whole wheat dense bread (un-toasted) with crunchy all natural peanut butter and all natural strawberry or raspberry preserves with whole lot in the middle (chunks and seeds please). :)
2. 100% whole wheat dense bread (un-toasted) with creamy all natural peanut butter with honey and 1 sliced banana.
3. (for breakfast) 1 slice sprouted grain raisin bread, toasted, with all natural creamy peanut butter with 1 sliced banana.
AND these all must be eaten with a nice tall glass of milk (either skim or whole, nothing in between please) and a bendy straw. The masterpiece must be cut into 2 triangles (crusts either not eaten at all when made with the jam or eaten first to save the best for last, and when made with honey, the crusts are eaten last and used to scoop up the honey droppings.) mmmmm
Yes I am picky, but I know what I like.
sweethoney at 10:40PM on 12/03/08
If I can manage to get the nutella to anything, I would schmeer it on anything.
pjracz10 at 3:33AM on 12/04/08
I must confess, a spoon of pb dipped into the nutella jar, is about as good as it gets. Another fav, the spoon full of pb pressed into a bowl of Quaker "OH's" cereal, however many stick to the pb take a ride to digestion.

Whole wheat bread, crunchy all-natural peanut butter and banana grilled without butter on a George Foreman grill.
