Orlando Restaurant Recommendations
We are surprising my 9 year old son with a trip to Orlando on Christmas day - leaving that afternoon.
We'll be there 6 days, and I'd like to have at least one really nice dinner (or lunch) out.
Wondering what all you Serious Eaters think about the dining scene. Has anyone eaten at any of the celebrity-owned (e.g. Emeril Lagasse, Wofgang Puck) places? Do you have a favorite Disney restaurant? We'll be exploring Universal for the first time, anything worthwhile there?
Thanks!

Puck more than Emeril. We also liked Germany in Epcot. There is a place called Boston Lobster Feast which has all you can eat little lobsters.

I have not been this year at all sadly.

I'm a yearly trekker to the Dis, and have eaten practically EVERYWHERE. If you are looking for a place that your 9-year old will like, and yet will also have really great food, I would suggest O'Hana in the Polynesian resort. They have great food (think skewers of various grilled meats, wonderful sides, delicious drinks) and fun entertainment for the kids...including a hula hoop contest and a coconut roll. For us, a trip to see Mickey is not complete without a visit to O'Hana.

Emeril's was a huge expensive disappointment. Don't miss the Pirate's Dinner Adventure though. www.piratesdinneradventure.com
The food was quite good and the show was spectacular!

Ming Court. The kids will love it because there is a koi pond with a little bridge you walk over and the dim sum is good. It is on I-drive so you are close to Universal and some of the other neat little attractions.

Update: On the recommendation of a friend, we had our splurge dinner at the Brown Derby in Disney's Hollywood Studios - and loved it.
My husband had a scallop/bacon/corn appetizer followed by duck with venison sausage. I had a potato crusted crab cake appetizer and hijiki crusted tuna entree. My son chose cruditees for appetizer and had grilled chicken breast entree. The desserts were gorgeous - my son chose the fruit salad topped with mango ice and my husband had an intricately decorated chocolate dessert.
Service was excellent, food very good. I'd go there again.
Thanks for the suggestions, Serious Eaters!
