Licorice: Way or No Way?

I loved it when I was a kid. Mom liked red only, but I liked both. I like licorice flavor - tarragon, anise, fennel.

It has fascinating properties. Licorice root has been used as a laxative; to adjust blood sugar, reduce pain from ulcer and arthritis, settles a queasy stomach and reduces acid, helps sore throats and acts as an expectorant/cough reducer. It is often used to flavor cigarettes, so chewing it might help in quitting.

Do not use if you have high blood pressure, low potassium, liver disease, or diabetes.

Of course, that's the root. The candy is much less effective.

So, what's your experience with licorice. Do you love it or hate it.
