Le Creuset Question...
Does anybody have any pieces in the SATIN BLACK finish? It looks very cool, but I'm wondering if it's harder to clean, etc.
Just curious, before I add one to my wishlist.
Although I do love the colorful stuff, especially the cobalt, which is till pretty classic. But I'm tend to be wary about the colors getting tiresome after a few years (my first LC pieces were flame hand-me-downs from the 60s, which I despised in the 80s!).
Any feedback?

I suspect that the satin black, like black clothes, would tend to hide stains better... My LeCreuset is yellow on the outside and white on the inside, and despite lots of scrubbing, after baking the no-knead breads in it at 600+ degrees, I can't get it back to it's pristine condition. Now I want a satin black one...

I wonder if it's the same black that's used in the base for the tagine. If it is, it seems to clean up pretty well, which is impressive, considering it's a fairly rough surface. As a matter of fact, the surface is pretty similar to the rough coating on my stove grates.
I have a cheap cast frying pan with that same tyoe of interior, and it tends to get whitish stuff on it. Like a black car or black clothes, you might not see the tomato sauce all that well, but you will see cat hair and waterspots.
I don't know if the Le Crueset cleans up better because of what and how I cook with it, or if it's that the cheap cast frying pan is cheap. Wait, let me think about that. Yeah, probably the latter.
I also have some other black coated cast iron pots, and they're not as rough as the Le Creuset tagine bottom and not as smooth as enamel or seasoned cast iron. They also seem to be okay, but I haven't used them much yet.

I noticed Ina Garten using two white LC dutch ovens today, for soups. I was so jealous. Black is beautiful, too. If you didn't hand down the hand-me-downs, I'll volunteer to pay for shipping. Flame suits me! ;)

I have the red, but I can only imagine, if it was made by LC, it will be true to their other standards. Now I want black satin. It just sounds sexy!

I'm pretty sure the black satin is the same surface as the tagine base. Not sure about ease of cleaning. I take great pride in the staining and discoloration of the inside enamel on my LC pieces. Just like the fine lines on my face, I earned every one ;)
And Perk, I'm with you...I know that flame is kind of a throwback, but I can't help but love it. I spent plenty of time trying to decide what color my 5.5 qt french oven should be, and I've never regretted my flaming choice.

i have a black lc dutch oven...by satn black, i'm assuming you mean the one that has a glossy finish? b/c that's what mine looks like. and even after a couple of years of stews and pot roasts, the outside looks pretty much like it did the first day.
i also have a black kitchenaid stand mixer...which manages to find every speck of dust possible and is now hiding under a cover.

I got one of the small satin black sauce pans as a gift for my boyfriend. Cleaning it and keeping it clean is not a problem, but we have hard water here, so if it's left to air dry it looks really blotchy. But that's a detail.

Love my assorted Le Creuset dutch ovens in red, cobalt blue, and dijon yellow. These are the three "primary" colors everything else derives from. I'll never get tired of looking at them.
Regarding cleaning the inside surface, try soaking them overnight filled with Clorox bleach diluted 50/50 with water. Also, a rinse in distilled water will not leave water spots on the outside (or on glassware, silverware, etc).

Sorry - I'm a Flame girl here. It was the original LeCreuset color and after my initial shock, I really grew to like it. Beware of "trendy" colors (black is classic - don't think it qualifies as trendy). If a color line is discontinued you can't build on your current set.

My house is rather eclectic when it comes to color, and that's particularly true in the kitchen. I've got two LC dutch ovens, one in red and one in yellow. The tagine is red. The next LC I buy may be blue, because I've been buying them when they're discounted, and the colors are limited. The next piece I want is in a lighter blue (Caribbean blue, maybe?) Fine with me. I like all of those colors better than I liked the sandy brown or the dark brown that I saw, but then again, I wouldn't turn either of those down if someone wanted to buy me one.
