I'm secretly in LOVE with Alton...

Ok, maybe Im not reserved enough for it to be a secret. I love the way he explains things with scientific reason and I even love all the goofy little gimmicky things he does. I watched a show where they showed all the behind the scenes antics and how they make it all happen. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy who's having a really good time.
He's related to half the people on his show and the rest are his friends.
I used to think I just liked the show but now my favorite part of Iron Chef is when Alton's talking...
My husband knows.
Hi, my name is Carol, and I'm in love with Alton Brown.

Hi dearrie. Should I have asked a question?

HAHA! I just got it!

i was hoping you would. i just saw 28 days. and this was right in tune

That's okay, Texas, we're all in love with Alton.

Even I'm in love with Alton, and I'm a healthy heterosexual male...

Okay, everybody, hands off my geek-muffin!

I haven't let Alton out of the sack!

Damn it izzy! You can't have them all!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I live out on my limb all alone, thinking he is a tedious, precious douche. I accept that I'm alone in this. But you all can have him.

I am telling you, he has mad skills. No one does edible science the way he does!

@simon ~ I might give up Alton if you make me some no need bread in you LC for me. ;-D

@Bangie ~ That's fine. We will take him!

editing now: no KneAd bread in youR

@iz, I'll bake the bread. Now, LET GO!

I'd even let Shirley come live with me and pretend to be my mom.

izzy's sack is really crowded and she won't share. =( pout pout

I'd rather come over and show you how to do it... You know, the whole give a fish / teach how to fish thing? It would only take us about 18 hours.

I'm in love with him, too. But I want to give him a haircut. I liked the spikey, bed head, tousled look. The longer length bothers me. I afraid it might turn into--oh, no THE DREADED COMBOVER!

@dhorst - the longer hair look on Alton is, in a word, unfortunate. Hopefully a good stylist will be able to talk some sense into him. But I am a major fan of his and watch "Good Eats" whenever I get a chance.

OH SIMON! I am sooooo swooning here! I am prepared to give up all the TV chefs for the experience. Wait..... What will you be Kneading, if not the bread? 18 hours? Are you packing an "overnight" bag?

@All ~ If things don't work out with simon, NOT to worry. I can cut hair!

i'm definitely “packing.”

um... iz? simon? no offense, but... you're really detracting from the warm alton glow... shudder...

;-p

Iz, what about a deal -- you cut his hair, and then rent him out for a few hours at a time? =)

@LoCo ~ Sorry! I get distracted so easily when it comes to Fresh, Hot Bread! *deep cleansing breath*

@kfarrel3 ~ It will take me but a few minutes to restore his hair back to it's former ruffled style! Then? I think LoCo is looking for a little quality time with Alton. We'll talk after that.

The guy...is a genius.

BangleB - you are not alone, though you forgot corny, and in real need of a hair cut.

See iz. I can cut hair too.
Now get off him.

Hey, I already passed him on to LoCo. No harm, no foul! ;-)

I knew being a foodie and doing well in school would pan out eventually. Now all I need is a mainstream national media outlet, and the female foodies will come flocking. Oh and by the way I too am a healthy, very heterosexual, 22 yr old male who is also in love with Alton, but in the way you love your grandfather and look at him with admiration. So ladies if the Alton thing doest work out for you, just think of me as AB in training ;)

Well Heellloooo twoojoe! said Mrs. Robinson to the 22 year old healthy graduate.........

@lyricalsoul: welcome to the limb! It's been lonely out here :(

@iz ~ "...heaven holds a place for those who PREY. Hey, hey, hey! Koo koo ka choo....."

I KNEAD to give the poor boy a haircut. I also pictured one side getting longer and longer and longer........NOOOOOOO NOOOOOO ALTON!

@Perk ~ (don't tell the youngun' about the "B" man, okay?)

*sigh* I love Alton too. As I said in another post, my boss and I now refer to him as "the god of food".

@iz~lurker
@perk~ you nailed it with PREY

Wait, who's the "B" man? now I'm whining...

hey iz, almost done with my preparations. bringing my most essentials tools just in case - rolling pin, immersion blender, meat mallet, marinade injector, pastry bags, whipped cream siphon... am i missing anything? was thinking i should bring my implements for making steamed buns and chocolate fondue too, since we'll have so much time on our hands while the dough rises...

I think if you got Alton, Shirley Corriher, and Deb Duchon together in a think tank, they could probably take over the world...as soon as Alton got a better haircut, heh. He's kind of got that thing Adam from Mythbusters was doing for a while (and it was just as unfortunate on him, lol).

Excuse me, but since I'm the one who first mentioned cutting his hair, I do have first dibbs on running my hands through those locks and cutting them off. Not to mention that I am a licensed and very talented cosmetologist. Back off...my shears are sharp and quite expensive. There will be repercussions to those who get in my way!

@carols, since you are the original poster who confessed your love for Alton, I'll let you shampoo.

Ah. What a way to wake up on a Saturday morning! Simon will be here any minute and we have some serious cooking to do. I wonder what he will ask me to do while his dough rises. He did say I could check out his tools!

@dhorst ~ You are too kind to allow TEXIE to shampoo.

@TEXIE ~ lurker?

@izzy ~ Would you like to be in charge of the conditioner? Or are your hands full with Simon and his tools?

@izzy you best go shopping and get ready to use all those tools, and don't forget the havy cream to whip up for dessert lol.

make sure he wears a apron..lol...

Ummmmm.... I like AB?.... but we won't be taking warm showers together anytime soon.... however, I do own a copy of "On Food and Cooking, the science and lore of the kitchen" by, Harold McGee which is where probably 90% of all AB's science show prep comes from... but he delivers it so well.... THANKS AB!

@izzy~you're always right there snatching up the good guys

@dhorst~well how very sweet of you. I too am licensed, as well as talented. I wonder how many of us are. I kinda got that impression from iz.

I just saw the new hair this week. It is quite unfortunate. That hair on such a smart head. I liked the old look better. Maybe this new hair won't last long.

Just so you all know, I spent quality time talking to Alton at a wine & food festival a few years back. I snuck into the autograph tent right after it closed and there was no one there! Just me and Alton, well maybe a few worker bees. We spent about 15 minutes chatting and he signed my book and I think the last line was something like: "What are you doing after the show?"

I just got back from the store and now I just have to decide what to wear when simon gets here. I can't wait to share my mad skills with him! ;-D (in the kitchen)

I once dig AB, then he went commercial and started wearing Hugo Boss and endorsing things. Before AB was Tyler.
I can tell you who I cannot stand. Todd English. The suborbital ridges, giant clefed chin, huge cranium and he is a model he says for what the Geico caveman commercial. Please!!!
If I see one more green pan advertisement I am going postal!

I have Never liked Todd English!

i share the alton love. i hope he stumbles across this thread someday and it makes him laugh and feel good. should he not, then perhaps he'll stumble across me someday and i will also make him feel good. ;)

leather or lace? let me know so i can plan accordingly.

simon ~ you are late! The champagne is almost gone....... But since you asked nicely, BOTH. ;-D

I think that the long hair makes him look like Christopher Kimball....but I still love him. Hubby teases me that we must be related somehow, because I am a mac geek, video editing, food obsessing, scientist.

As a Phd holding scientist, his show doesn't irk me. I watched 15 minutes of the science food show with the guy from Queer Eye, and after they used the wrong safety goggles, I vowed never again watch that one!

@Pavlov - "On Food & Cooking..." is one of my favoutite food books! While I have a nice collection of food porn books a.k.a. "regular cookbooks", and I use them for ideas sometimes, it's books like Larousse Gastronomique, On Food & Cooking and Escoffier: The Complete Guide to the Art of Modern Cookery that I love and treasure most!

Is it any surprise then that I, too, love Alton Brown?:-) Although the new hairdo made me yelp "ouch!" the first time I saw it. In a way, AB reminds me of my father, who used to explain all kinds of things in a similar manner ever since I could talk and ask questions (my father has a PhD in physics and even when I was 2, he'd talk to me the same way he did to his university students).

@twoojoe -- didn't you start a thread a while aback on a similar topic? Didn't I ask if you were in Baltimore?

... am I sounding creepy yet? =p

@iz -- okay, but make sure I'm in the lineup, okay? Just because I'm technically an adult doesn't mean I can't raise a fuss when I don't get what I want, haha ..

@kfarrel3 ~ I have no idea what you are talking about.

@Geeka: Well, I have a PhD, too, but he still irks the crap out of me. Being correct or incorrect isn't the issue for me. His recipes work, and are good. He has sound advice. I just... don't care for the guy.

Though really, what the hell do I know. I find Ina Garten and Giada De Laurentiis dull, Michael Chiarello bossy, and don't even get me started on Rachael Ray, Sandra Lee, and that Ingrid Hoffman person.

"Iz, what about a deal -- you cut his hair, and then rent him out for a few hours at a time? =)

@kfarrel3 ~ It will take me but a few minutes to restore his hair back to it's former ruffled style! Then? I think LoCo is looking for a little quality time with Alton. We'll talk after that."

@kfarrel3 ~ Sorry! I read back up the thread too quickly and missed some of the posts. I'm with you now! You are next in line!!

Ahem! I believe he was mine first!

@BangieB~I'm with ya on everyone but Alton.

Aaaagh! The long hair does NOT make AB look like the dreaded Christopher Kimball....I'm horrified, but we all know that the comparison comes up all the time. Now I must go scrub myself, but before that, @BangieB I'm laughing because you think that nice Michael Chiarello is bossy. You are obviously not Italian. As for Ina and Giada (and a host of nameless others) being DULL: spot on! Please don't get me started on Ina's unattractive house guests (Jeffrey excluded).

Excuse me! I'm the one who brought up the hair issue. Texie gets to shampoo and Izzy gets the conditioner. I am the shear welding goddess who will transform AB's locks into their much shorter, tossled state.

I don't care who cuts it but dear god someone do it!!!!!!!!! I also thought it was Kimballish. :0

to Pointy - slightly off topic, but I too find Ina's house guests, totally bizarre! Even Jeffrey is such a "spoiled brat" - he is either the world's luckiest husband, or he is a usurper from another planet, pretending to be what he considers to be an earthling husband - the trouble is, he chose the wrong century! I love her cooking & recipes, but the whole scene just seems sooo contrived - or - maybe I just feel that way, 'cause I was raised by wolves!

@dhorst -- you know what, you can all fiddle with his hair as much as you like; I'll be there to smile coquettishly and tell him how fantastic he looks. XD

I met him once at a book signing for his cookbook (which is great). He's very cool & funny in person - and of course cute too!!
