How long can I keep homemade soup?

On Sunday night I made a big batch of vegetarian vegetable soup. It still has 2-3 servings left that I want to eat. How long do I have?

I ate homemade turkey soup for a week, and i'm still alive and well.

If it has tomato it is good for a week. If it has poultry, seafood or meat in it 3 days tops. Freeze it if you cannot finish it.

I have eaten soup before for 2 weeks and I am still alive, I just smell it, if it has a funky odor then toss it. If your not going to eat it an time soon then freezze it.

I usually set myself a week limit. But sure, I've violated that rule before.

Freeze it flat in individual serving zip-loc bags or plastic containers. My 14 year old is obsessed with clam chowder so I make a ton and then freeze portions in glad containers stacked in the freezer next to a bag of frozen crusty rolls. He can come home and pop both into the microwave and I get a very smiley boy.

I freeze in glad containers, which work well to preserve individual servings. Most recently, I poured 1-cup servings into a silicone cupcake/muffin pan and froze them in that overnight, then put the soupcicles into a gallon ziploc bag. It works well if you don't have a billion small containers on hand to freeze individual portions, and the silicone's flexibility makes it easy to get the frozen soup out of the muffin tin (or whatever you'd call it).

I agree with the week rule. You can definitely freeze some of it though, and it'll last a good month.
