I was amazed at what they had for food gifts at marshalls homegoods.
Imported things, gift baskets. I ran up and down the aisles and grabbed things. I bought for Mr Tomato's staff Panera Bread gift cards and Starbucks gift cards are 5/20.00 for 79.99 at Costco. That way they can stop and grab a coffee and whatever. Plus they also get a big box-o-love to attack.

i like to buy unusual or seasonal coffee mugs at the christmas tree shop and fill them with small bags of coffee or tea, and some cookies. they even have bags with lites that work.

At my office we have a rule "Everyone likes booze". Enough said.

Depends on the people. My gifts this year came from Trader Joe. I reassessed my list yet again.
For one section, I bought that 4' long cookie box to be shared by 10 people. It has pirouettes and other cookies that I would actually enjoy and gobble down in one sitting if I were left alone with it.
I bought a total of 20 candy cane Joe-Joes, orange cardamom star cookies in a tin, dark chocolate star cookies, chocolate covered peppermint cookies, and yogurt-covered pretzels in a tin to give to miscellaneous coworkers who have helped me throughout the year. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I got one of my bosses 3 bottles of tapenade and the organic cracker assortment.
Somewhere in the batch, I'd almost forgotten, are 3 tins of chocolate covered potato chips from Target and 3 boxes of Mozart candy from World Market.
Previous years, I've given everyone Gethsemani bourbon fruitcakes, Harry & David baskets, etc.
This may not help this year...when I went back home to Hawaii for a visit in early Dec one year (actually, it was two trips to HI, 12 hours long each way, in 1 week - quite painful), I bought a lot of stuff there that wasn't perishable and gave it to everyone as gifts -- Kona coffee, chocolate covered mac nuts, other local cookies and candies, Hawaiian motif kitchen gift sets, Japanese gift sets of food, utensils, etc.
As you mentioned, it all depends on the "level" and quantity of folks being covered. :)
