Does anyone know where to eat or drink in WIlmington, DE

I'd like to meet a friend for lunch in or around Wilmington. Anybody know of a place? Maybe a cozy bar with food?

If you want a burger the Charcoal pit has great burgers and a bar

The burgers are some of the best I have had and you may forgo the drinks for a handmade milkshake. The cremesicle a fav of mine.

As far as scenery goes, the Riverfront Wilmington area is pretty and has a few restaurants there too.

TEXAS didn't mean Wilmington! She meant NEWARK.

But I am fine with Wilmington! ;-D

Carol is going to lunch with iza...ooooh rumors!

K. How About NEWARK?
(you didn't have to yell)

I love a good laugh on a Sunday afternoon (watch the Eagles win)!

@Jerzee ~ Want to come?

I asked first! It's not in my thing!

STOP with the football

Time for Dallas and Pittsburgh!

the patriots

and i wanna go to

wow! I never thought that anyone would ask about my stomping grounds!

On main street Newark, the local fav is Homegrown. They are a little bohemian, but you can get drinks, salads, soups appetizers and sandwiches for reasonable prices and they have pricier entrees if your up for it. They have a pretty diverse and creative menu.

But if you looking for cozy bar with food, Newark is crawling with college kid haunts like Deerpark, Klondike Kate's and Kildare's. Personally, I don't like them because it's more about the getting drunk part than the food. I recommend Homegrown, they are slightly trendier but take care in the food they serve.

Seriously, we need a good resto rec!

@dearie ~ Come on down!

ok ok GO COWBOYS!

come on dearrie!

@blankplate~thanks, Homegrown looks good. The place and the food.

Domaine Hudson, Carol. Great wine selection, different sized pours to taste. Great chef creates fantastic pairings with the wines. Tell Tom I sent you!

I want to come too?

Come on! It'll be fun. Are you really that close?

Houston, How do you know? Is Tom the chef, owner, Maitre d'?

all i need is a ice coffee

I am jealous!!!
In Newark for lunch I would go to Cafe gelato. The gelato is authentic. Nice bistro entrees and wine wine wine.
Main Street is kitchy, shoppy and its FREEZING today. I just got back from Kitchen and Company. BRRRRR

@ Jerzee ~ Why don't you just come with us!

i'm stuffed.

@dearrie~with iced coffee?

@jerzee~come-on... you know you want to =)

fettucine alfredo with grilled chicken and broccoli. boy i'm good. today anyway.

Duly impressed.
Seared boneless chicken breasts w/lemon and thyme and then a sauce of lemon, thyme and a teensy bit of butter. We're trying to be good. On a bed of white rice with a side of broccoli & pepper flakes

@TEXIE ~ We have 1 rec for a resto in Newark so far. Where are all of the Delawarians???? They are in Newark and don't know that is where we want to go!

Not to argue with you sweetie, I would never, but I think we have 3. There's a second from Houston and, unless she means New Jersey, Jerz gave us a third. Did she mean New Jersey?

I do agree on WHERE ARE ALL OF YOU????? There have to be people out there as bossy and smart and know-it-all as we are...

Houston's rec is in Wilmington. I'll give you Jerzee's. *hanging head now*

Did you look at Homegrown? It kinda like it? And you DID say Wilmington once. I wouldna known it existed.
And, there is something to be said for being able to drop a name...

Hey girlfriend, if you want to drive to Wilmington, I'm down with that!

Cafe Gelato has the best brunch in Newark---they serve until 3, I think, and you can't beat. Another vote for Homegrown, and you might want to check out Timothy's. It's not on Main Street, but they have excellent burgers and a fun atmosphere. It also tends to be a little less crowded with hungover students on the weekends.

as a former bluehen i would definitely recommend homegrown. although kate's is a college hangout they have amazing nachos. what about iron hill. they have one on the riverfront in wilmington as well.i always loved the hummus platter. definitely a little more upscale then the average bar/restaurant like kate's or deerpark.

I second Iron Hill on the Riverfront, but only if you want to go into Wilmington...

Iron Hill on Main Street is great. They brew all of their own beer, and the Raspberry Wheat is the best! I don't know why I didn't think of it in the first place---I've had plenty of great meals there, and even more delicious drinks!

@jaf--Cheers to being a former Blue Hen!

I moved from Bear.DE last yr(5 min from Wimington) but I don't know about bars as I don't drink. But I am so Jealous as I have always wanted to meet you guys, you are all so funny!

My stomping grounds!!! HaHa...

Hi Izzy and MISSESTEXAS :)

Depends on where you are going. Are you going to Newark-as in Main Street-or Newark generally speaking? Or is it Wilmington?

Domain Hudson is in Wilmington...

If you are going to Newark (Main Street) I would recommend Iron Hill or Cafe Gelato. They are the best on Main Street. Iron Hill is a Brewery with a choice of bar seating or tables. There is a small bar in Cafe Gelato but they are more centered around the food.

@Izzy: Did you ever go to Harry's Seafood on the Riverfront?

@Butrfly ~ Yes! We had a great time and the food was really wonderful. Thanks for the suggestion.

We are still working out the destination. But Newark is exactly half way between.

only three hours for me. yippee.

Dearrie are you coming?! Spend the night at my house!
Only another hour 15.
So whadaya think Iz? Newark?

Newark or Bust!

You had me going there for a minute. I thought you were talking about Nurrk, NJ, not New Ark, DE.

Is Alton Brown meeting yuze guyz on the sly? Don't forget your scizzors!

So, TEXAS is not in Texas? I missed something when my computer was down.

I've been reading here for a long time, but this is the post that finally prompted me to sign up. I've lived in DE for 20+ years. Homegrown has a great reputation, although I'm ashamed to say I've never been there. Personally, I love Iron Hill Brewery (both on Main St. in Newark and at the Riverfront), and Cafe Gelato has an excellent Sunday brunch as well as wonderful dinners. If you're looking for more ethnic foods, I'd recommend Potstickers...a relatively new restaurant across from Christiana Hospital or A Taste of India, which is on Kirkwood Hwy between Newark and Wilmington. Should you decide to venture into Wilmington, I'd suggest: Deep Blue, Eclipse, Union City Grille or Jasmine. Have fun!

I have been to Potstickers twice and both times left dissapointed. The crab cakes were just without any seasoning and the second time our entrees took over an hour and arrived cold.
I would however love to hear about a Taste of India.
Funny thing about nicknames online, you may infact not even be from Texas and just have a Texas reason for making that name.
I went to college with a guy we called Chicago he was from Germany.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed in Potstickers. I've been about 3 times, and my friends and I have been happy pretty consistently...didn't try the crabcakes, though...usually stick with a Thai dish. Not sure what to say about A Taste of India...it's tucked behind a strip mall, and has been around for years. I've tried several of the new Indian restaurants in town (and there have been many), but AToI remains my favorite. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and the food has been good.

@Izzy: Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. I like that restaurant-it's one of my faves. You'll have to let us know where you decide to go this time.

As for Potstickers, I'm with @Jerzee. My bf and I went once. Not that we hated it but not a place where we thought-wow, I want to come here tomorrow. If you were going to that plaza I would recommend Firebirds. Food is better and I like the atmosphere. The area these restaurants are in is by the Christiana Hospital.

Another suggestion is Soffritto Italian Grill. Love it there. Just outside of Main Street. Here's the website:

http://www.soffrittogrill.com/locations.html

@Perk & Jerzee~Texas born and raised. Moved north a few years ago because of my husband's work. That's why I miss it.
Hope you see this. I've been away a few days.

In Newark-
Iron Hill or Home Grown
and for dessert there's a fantastic cupcake place a few doors down from Home Grown

In Wilmington-
Cafe Verdi
Iron Hill
Harry's Savoy
