Do you have to trim green beans?
Again, do you have to trim green beans? Is it only haricots verts that you leave the ends on? If you do need to trim them, how much is necessary?
I am roasting green beans on Christmas Eve and need to know and I figured if anyone would know, you guys would.

I find the ends of regular sized green beans to be quite tough and fibrous. There's nothing worse than trying to chomp through a prickly end to an otherwise perfectly cooked green bean. I say, unless they are the sumputously slim haricot verts, then they should be trimmed.

I only trim the woody stems of the ends of my green beans, and they are delicious.

I trim them--about a 1/4 of an inch. It just makes a nicer presentation.

Same here - I trim the stem end and leave the nice, little tender shoots as they are - I hate undercooked green beans, but overcooked - yeck! There is a fine line in cooking them. I have never roasted them because they are so thin and delicate - better keep a close eye out!

Same here. I'm a stem trimmer.

I pick off a little on both ends (maybe 1/4" at the stem end). It's actually one of my favorite kitchen tasks.

I only trim the stems. I think the little "tails" on the other end are cute.

I trim the stem end. The other end doesn't bother me.

I trim both ends, just because it's easier. I grab a handfull, like up one end, whack, line up the other end, whack, and it's done. If I leave the little end, then I have to look at which end I'm whacking and it takes longer.

I trim and take the tough fiber out of the middle.

I'm not "allowed" to do more than trim the stems off. Green beans are one of the few veggies by boyfriend actively likes, so I make certain that he gets his green bean fries the way he likes them: stem pinched off, left whole, quickly boiled, with a bit of butter and lots of salt and pepper. He thinks I'm weird for snacking on them raw.

I always trim them! It's worth the few extra minutes to not have those nasty hard things in your otherwise awesome beans!

Trim the lignened end... lignen is good in firewood but not in green beans... I like the other end untrimmed...
