cookie press problems

I just bought a cookie press (I admit I only spent $14 on it) - and I cant get it to work. I got it assembled, and when I pull the trigger thing it clicks and dough comes out, but the dough doesnt stay on the cookie pan - it never released from the press. (Tried it with parchment and without...)

Am I doing something wrong, or did I just buy a cheap press??
