Caviar

This may be considered off-base given today's trend towards economy and cutting back but I would like to buy some caviar as a treat for my family. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg (just an arm will do!) but I don't want to spend money on something that is not worth it either. So given a budget of $100-$200, for five people each of whom loves caviar, what would you recommend?

I adore caviar. There are a number of options. What caviars have you had? Which ones were your favorites?

We did little new potatoes with sour cream and a dollop of caviar for thanksgiving. Even my kids love it. I know, we're starting them off all wrong.
They're always offered children's menus in restaurants and they look at the waiter like he has two heads.

I got it at the store but most caviar places Fed ex so it will be just as fresh.

Keep in mind that US Fish and Wildlife has halted imports of Beluga into the US. Any Beluga for sale is either from 2005 or black market.

I think that if it's not something that you regularly indulge in, your tastes won't be sensitive enough to discern a real difference in the different grades. Hence, you don't need to spend the money to get the most expensive. I used to buy some in St Louis that was harvested from Missouri Paddlefish Sturgeon that was quite good.
