Breakfast tacos in Dallas?

So I live in downtown Dallas and usually at least once a weekend I'm thinking, where can I find some decent, cheap breakfast tacos near me?

When I lived in Austin it seemed like they were everywhere, or maybe I just lived really close to a good one.

If anybody has some ideas it would be much appreciated. I'd like to exclude some of the "nicer" breakfast spots like Breadwinners because I don't really consider what they do breakfast tacos.

I'm jealous. I'm sure you know that Taco Cabana has good tacos with handmade tortillas. Herrera's has the best Mexican food in Dallas. On Maple, I think. They're an institution. As is Tia's on Lemmon. If you drive around Deep Ellum, there are a couple of taco places. And surprisingly, Fuel City on S Industrial at 35 has REALLY good tacos. Plus he's got longhorns out back.

I hate fast food "breakfast tacos". It's joke food. Consider it an omen that you can't find them. Have a nice pain au chocolat instead.

no no - fast food "breakfast tacos" are not what i'm looking for. None of that crap from whataburger or something.

i want something made by real mexicans with good chorizo, eggs, potato, and the like. yesterday we found a place called Amy's or something where no one spoke a lick of english, luckily my spanish kicked in and we got a delicious breakfast with real corn tortillas and chorizo for under $5, for two people! It was crazy good.

i'm not a fan of sweets for breakfast, or a lot of "bread" for that matter so the pain au chocolat is a no go.

The closest I can offer you is in Plano at Apparicio's Tortilla Factory. But yes, definitely NOT fast food.

So FWIW - apparently according to my foodie/longhorn contacts here in Dallas - Fuel City is the place for breakfast tacos, and it may be blasphemous to say otherwise!

Let me know what you guys think if you've been to this taco-mecca

Um-Hellooo. Didn't I mention Fuel City?
By mentioning Taco Cabana, I was not suggesting fast food tacos. No one outside of Texas knows about Taco Cabana.

There's also a place (of course I don't know the name)on lowest Greenville.
It's on the other side of Ross where it turns into Munger. They have a little patio and it looks crummy but it's delicioso.

And you HAVE to go eat at The Blue Goose on lower Greenville, they also have a great bar. Cafe Brazil is across the street. Also really good. And Terrilli's, a short walk down, has good Italian food and live jazz on weekends. The Grape is across from Terilli's and famous for it's mushroom soup.
Can you tell I'm homesick? There are NO breakfast tacos here or in St Louis. I quiz people all the time as to what they have for breakfast in place of tacos.

@carolrs im sorry! you did!

I'd be homesick too, moving to St. Louis. Thank you for all the suggestions, your memory is pretty darn good! I've looked up cafe brazil before but their website stinks so I never knew what they really offered and thus haven't tried it.

I'll have to go searching for this mystery restaurant on lower-lowest greenville and see what I can find!

lots of folks outside Texas know what Taco Cabana is, they just haven't eaten there. It is pretty good, but really doesn't deserve so much praise. And their tortillas, while very very delicious, are mixed in house but made by a machine. It is what it is, pretty good, pretty cheap, pretty fast food chain, beats the hell out of any fast food burgers and/or taco bell type establishments (although I did always enjoy Taco Bueno when in North Texas). I miss Cabana too, but mostly when I want fast food and other options are nil.

some tacos I remember from Dallas (I'm not from there though)
Fuel City is very very good.
El Paisa, a few locations, one on Harry Hines I beleive,
El Ranchito,
El Fuego
El Paisan, on Lombardy I think.
lots more, I can't beleive breakfast tacos are hard to find in Dallas, try some different neighborhoods, look on Chow hound, find some gas stations that advertise tacos and look in the yellow pages for Latin tiendas or some markets with carnecerias.

Thanks for all the suggestions! They aren't too hard to find, but recommendations are way more informative.

La Michoacana has great Tacos but not sure if they have breakfast tacos? Otherwise you will have good luck going to a Fiesta or El Rancho.

Best breakfast tacos in Dallas: The Mixing Bowl, 614 S. Hampton Rd., Dallas 75208, (214) 946-4811

They aren't open on the weekends and they may not even be open every weekday but I know they're open on Fridays because I bring them every so often for the office. I recommend the chorizo and cheese, also if you call ahead they'll have them ready when you get there.
