Baklava
Alright kiddies, thinking caps on! I'm going ethnic for Christmas cookies this year and would love to add the most fabulous turkish confection...the mighty Baklava. And as I am a pro at eating it, I have never attempted it's creation. Anyone out there have a recipe for me? The more generations that it has passed through the better!

I just made this for the first time less than a month ago, and this is the recipe that I used.

It was *so* easy and delicious! I even had everyone tell me that it tasted more "authentic" than many other versions, which makes me think that it was okay at least. They loved it, I loved it. I would try this one.
As a note, I couldn't find mixed nuts in time, so I just used walnuts, although if you can find them, try pistachios as they are meant to be delicious, too!

I make a traditional Lebanese kind with orange blossom honey and orange blossom water. Pecans for the nuts. Let me know if you want all the measurements. It's easy to make just about a hr. of time for assembly.

Baklava can be so time consuming. I found a "cheater" recipe on the Betty Crocker web site for Baklava Bars. I passed it on to my Greek girlfriend who made them for a family gathering. They were a big hit! Sometimes baklava can be sooo sweet. This is a nice variation. Look under prize-winning recipes for 2007/cookie mix.
