What should I put in my crockpot?

Its a cold blustery day in PA and I'd like to put something in the crockpot and just let it cook all day. I've never actually made anything in a crockpot and I'm not sure where to start. I've got chicken, beef and pork in my freezer and various other things in my pantry. Any suggestions?

a chuck roast with carrots, turnips, onions, whole garlic cloves, celery, potatoes, and some beef broth. or some chicken soup. when its done throw some dumplings on top and let them cook. i could go on and on.

Beans with a ham bone talking about smelling up the house real nice or maybe chili..

Pulled pork! Pork shoulder, rubbed with spices, cooked long and slow, then add some sauce, pull it, pile it up on buns with slaw! Yum!

sauerkraut with kielbasa, pork, and a can of yuengling...my favorite new year's meal.

Hmm, pulled pork is a good idea, although I prefer it done in the smoker so it can get a nice hard bark.

I'd say go with chili. It'll make your house smell amazing, it tastes best when cooked all day, and it's such a nice comfort food on a cold, cold, wet day.

I agree with nightowl, chili is the way to go, it just gets better and better in the slow cooker. On another note here's an interesting slow cooker remark, "She has to pace herself," suggested veteran Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman. "She wants a career made in a Crock-Pot, not a microwave." This was in regards to Sarah Palin's future from CNN article:

I wonder if Howard Bragman is a foodie?

Thanks everyone, I did the chili yesterday and I'm doing the pork today!

Thanks everyone, I did the chili yesterday and it smelled great and tasted even better, and I'm doing the pork today! I'd appreciate any more great suggestions!

crock pot sauce is great, canned tomatoes, puree, paste, herbs and make meatballs and put them in raw, after 6 hrs or so you will have wonderful sauce.

You could try an easy and flavorful chicken and dumplings. For best flavor? Use a rotisserie chicken from your local grocer. Pull of big chunks of meat. Dice the skin (yum) real tiny. Throw in onion, celery, garlic and a can or two of chicken broth.

And for dumplings: 2 C flour, tablespoon of baking powder, tbsp salt, 1 egg, tbsp oil, tbsp dried parsley and dash of milk - stir well and knead out very thin. Slice into strips of dumplings and boil for 5-8 minutes in salty water. Add to your stews or potroasts!

There's a recipe a day, and discussion of results, both negative and positive.

Easiest meal ever:

Easy Teriyaki Chicken

2-3 lb. skinless chicken pieces
1 20-oz. can pineapple chunks
Dash of ground ginger
1 C. teriyaki sauce

Directions

Place chicken in the crockpot. Pour remaining ingredients on top. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours (4-5 hours if using boneless chicken breasts).
