Sour Cream Cookies
Ok, so my roommate's Grandmother used to make sour cream cookies and she is totally jonesing for some and can't find a recipe anywhere... so I'm hoping serious eaters can help out....
She says they were a very light fluffy cake-like cookie, not too sweet with a little tang. Her word is "smooshy", not like angel food cake or crumbly.... yeah... i don't know LOL.
I have searched all my cookbooks and on line and haven't really found one equilivant to it.
any help?

Here's one my mom used to make:
Grandma Jenkin's Sour Cream Cookies
1 c. sour cream
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. lemon extract (optional but my mom always used)
3 c. flour
Drop or roll out. Bake at 375 for 7 minutes. Makes around 30 cookies.
My mom also used to sprinkle sugar on top before baking sometimes.

1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Frosting:
6 Tbs. butter browned

In a large mixing bowl, blend together oleo and brown sugar until creamy. Add eggs and blend in. Mix together flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Blend into butter mixture and then add sour cream, nuts and mix well together. Chill dough for at least 2 hours. Drop by teaspoons onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Let cool and frost.
Frosting: Blend all ingredients together. If needed add a little more milk to get the right consistency to frost cookies.
Hope this helps!

my mom used to make a similar recipe with yogurt (she also subbed sour cream sometimes), so if those recipes don't come out right, maybe google yogurt cookies and try those with sour cream.

@dhorst I tried your recipe for these cookies. The only difference I subed soy sour cream for reg and used orange extract and zest instead of lemon. Thank you, these cookies actually were so good my SO ,who hates most cookies and cakes, sat down and ate 1/2 a batch! But I have to ask if I did something wrong, I found the dough Very sticky, is that normal? I dont think it affected the taste, and I hated to put more flour in, for fear of making them to dry. Anyway, I just wanted to recomen that recipe. its truly yummy!

I'm glad the recipe worked out. Your description sounded so much like them--I was transported back to my childhood. My kids like these cookies too. Would you believe that recipe has been in my family for over 100 years!
