Slow-Cooker Recommendations?
Since moving away from my parent's home a couple of years ago, I've missed the comforting appeal and smells of my Dad's weekly crockpot meals. And over the past few weeks I've decided that my culinary life is empty until I get my hands on my own slow-cooker.
i went on Amazon and saw a few models, but complaints ranged from "the knobs keep breaking" to "cooks too hot".
I wondered if any of you could recommend a decent crockpot that doesn't really exceed the $50 range, is 5 quarts or less and will provide some consistently well-cooked and delicious food.
Availability on Amazon.com is a plus because I have a prime account and get free shipping :)
Oh and if you have any recipes that would be awesome to start of with, please let me know. Aside from my Dad's Swedish Meatballs, wine/cream of mushroom roast, and Alton Brown's crockpot chili, I don't have a lot of recipes stockpiled.

go to a couple of yard sales , where they're quite popular and pick up one for $5. or go to walmart or target and get really decent one for about $35. Save the receipt for forever and if it breaks you can exchange it for a new one. I hate to admit this but i had a horrible run with coffee makers a few years ago. Started off at Bed Bath and Beyond with an expensive cuisinart and it crapped out after a few months so we returned it and got a less expensive mr. coffee; it too died in a couple of months so we returned that and but yet another, less expensive model and sure enough it burned up. Of course this last fatality happened on a saturday morning so i sent OH to Walmart and he came back with a $20 model just to get us by. We returned the 3rd one to BBB and got our money back. The $20 one has been going strong for 2 years! go figure!

Alton Brown also has a recipe for pepper pork chops in the crock that is great. I make it every couple of months.

@ nightmoon
That's my biggest concern. I don't want one that's going to break on me the 3rd time I use it. I found a pretty nice one with a one year warranty, so I'm feeling pretty good about investing in it.
@NO_Pam Thanks! Alton Brown has a recipe for everything. I cannot wait to try it.

I wanted to know what slow cooker alton brown uses in Good Eats (Puddin' Heads) After comparing photos of slow cookers to the one on his show I'm pretty sure it is morphy richards slow cooker 48730 which is only sold in england unfortunately. I hope this helps those of you out there with the same question I had. by the way, Good Eats Rocks!
