My Girlfriend wants Balthazar but I can't afford it!

Want to take the GF out somewhere nice for her birthday. Balthazar is her favorite retstaurant, but I don't think I can swing it this year. I'm looking for a good facimilie that's a little lighter on the pocket book. Entree's generally around $15, preferably under would be great. Food over Mood, but somewhere romantical would be awesome.

Can you help?

Thanks!

I really enjoy Moutarde in Park Slope. Their duck confit is $10 cheaper than the duck confit at Balthazar.

Haven't personally been, but what about La Sirene? From 5-7 pm, it looks like they have a 3 course dinner deal for $25:

Upstairs at Bouley is awesome food at your price point: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/upstairs-at-bouley/menus/main.html

They do not take reservations, however.

Zucco in the LES. Tiny, hole in the wall but utterly charming and the owner is fantastic. It's super cozy and small in there but it feels like Paris!

Have you considered a new gf?

How nice of you to try and find something your gf will like even though it is not Balthazar (hopefully since she is your gf she understands your econ situation.)
I like Zampa wine bar on w 13th. It is small yet intimate and it def fits your criteria.
Ino in the WV is pretty similar as well. Love it there.
I think Kefi on w 79th would really impress her (I am not sure if you are sticking to downtown but I figured I'd throw it in). It is very romantic with great lighting and great food.

Hope this helps, otherwise I agree with BirdDoggie!

JeanClaude on Sullivan street in Soho. Super yummy french bistro.

Tournesol in LIC ... only one stop on the 7 train outside Manhattan
