Mmm..donuts
What's your favorite flavor donut? Favorite place to get them?
Are you a frosting person? A sprinkles person?
Cream-filled? Purist, like myself?
Here in Seoul, there are a lot of Dunkin' Donuts places all over, and while I *rarely* have eaten from there in the States, it's much different here, and I've enjoyed the different flavors. My favorite so far has been a purple sweet potato
My favorite donut is a plain, old-fashioned donut from the Piseco Lake Lodge in New York State's Adirondack park..

Plain French cruller - no chocolate or any kind of glaze please! Not loyal to any place in particular.
Now if you include pastries, I love Au Bon Pain's creme de fleur and their palmier. Gotta love the 25 g of fat per pastry! :P

way back in the day, i used to stop on my way to work at Bes Eatin' donuts and get a large reg coffee and a buttermilk cake. Nowadays in the south about the only fresh donut places i find are Krisp Kreme, and I know I'll probably get jumped for this, but I cant stand KK! So I wait till i go back up north andget my fix at tim hortons and its a buttermilk cake, or as close as they can come.

As a youngster I grew to love the plain raised donut available at our local Spudnut. They used to be very common but the last time I ran them through a search engine it looks like they've retreated to the Midwest. Plain crullers catch my eye nowadays but I'll actually go trolling for those huge apple fritters that would cover a plate if I set them down. You know the kind; slathered in a glaze!

My favorite has always been the sugar raised doughnut from Dunkin Donuts. I love how the sugar crystals crunch when you bite into it. Runners up are the lemon-filled and blueberry cake. I'm not really a fan of frosting or sprinkles.
I used to work at Dunkin Donuts, and we were allowed to have as many doughnuts as we wanted for free during our shifts, which was fun for about a week. But I think it says something good about the quality that I still enjoy the doughnuts after working there.

Plain glazed doughnuts are always good to me. The others are good too except for any kind of filled doughnut because I feel like the filling overpowers the goodness of the doughnut itself.

Chocolate glazed! Occasionally chocolate frosted, but usually just the plain chocolate glazed. And a large caramel iced coffee -- all from Dunkin' Donuts, of course.
@huneybumper -- no worries! I'm with you on that; I'll take DD over KK any day!

I used to get an almond croissant that was to die for. Light and flaky, filled with almond paste and topped with sliced almonds. It wasn't too sugary, which is my chief complaint with doughnuts. But hey, I'm more of a savory rather than sweet kind of girl.

You are asking a difficult question for me. I would say........I can't answer this question, I like ALL donuts or apple fritters as well. I still have yet to try the Paula Deen's donut burger.

I'm gonna get jumped for this, but I love Krispy Kreme hot fresh glazed donuts much the way I like cotton candy.
My favorite pastry breakfast isn't a donut, but a chocolate eclair.
Other than that, apple fritters are the way to go!

peter pan's, in greenpoint - when i go in there, i just have to stand and stare for a minute and adjust myself to the fact that it's all within reach. their donuts are seriously yummy, no favorites but i usually despise jelly-filled (with a close second by boston creme)

normally i'm not much of a donut person, but when i go to the union square greenmarket, i can't resist the whole wheat apple cider donuts. damn they're tasty.

Pączki! Pączki! Pączki!
There's no doughnut in the world better than a prune filled pączek. There's a small chain of Polish bakeries in Montreal that makes some really great ones. One location is unfortunately situated about 30 meters from where I work.

I grew up in Massachusetts, and of course there is a Dunkin's on every corner (or "kawnah" as we'd say it in Boston)...my fave would be a plain cruller or a Boston Creme, with a large iced coffee, extra light.
Now that I'm down in Atlanta, there are fewer Dunkin's around, and more KK. Not a fan of the KK, I have to say...too sweet and sticky (that's what she said). And sadly, DD's don't make crullers down here...but I'll still reach for a Boston Creme and think of my hometown and smile.
juliebugsmama at 10:09AM on 11/10/08
Oh yeah, SqueezeBottle reminded me of something that I intensely crave, but cannot get in Cleveland, which is why I didn't think of this when I initially posted. :P
I LOVE me some freshly deep fried burn your fingers malasadas rolled in sugar from the truck. They make them now with Boston cream and other fillings, but I don't care for them as much.
I also LOVE and miss andagi (I'm Okinawan, so it's to be expected) -- no Boston cream filling, not rolled in sugar, just plain just out of the deep fryer andagi.
Sigh...
I need to make a trip back home!
Cassaendra at 11:22AM on 11/10/08
Are any DD's making crullers anymore? Ooh, the marble ones were so good back in the day, crunchy in some bites, soft in others.
Now I live in Tim Horton's territory and like a sour cream glazed. But they have nothing resembling DD iced coffee, which I dearly love, so they will never win my heart.

Dunkin Donuts maple frosted donuts, preferably w/out sprinkles.

In Seattle, you've got to go to Top Pot. A small, local chain. The downtown location is the best because they are the freshest. Of course I'm still a southern boy with Krispy Kreme loyalties too.
MichaelNatkin at 11:02PM on 11/10/08
I like any fresh donuts. Hey machellebelle, you know there's the NYC Donut Company in Hongdae right?! YUM.
smile at 11:08PM on 11/10/08
Dang scratch that. It's Donut Plant NYC and it's in Myeondong. Heeee! Still delicious!!
smile at 11:16PM on 11/10/08
I've never had a Krispy Kreme. At home growing up, Entemanns were the only donuts permitted so once in college, I developed an addiction for Dunkin Bavarian Creme and Chocolate Cake donuts.
But nothing beats Italian bakeries versions of cream filled or jam filled pastries.
Donuts--fat, sugar, something for sweet and savory toothed individuals both...
