I love ________ butter.

I've been trying to expand away from peanut butter (yes, I am addicted). I have tried tahini, cashew, almond, the original butter, walnut, and coconut. While i love coconut butter (second place to peanut butter) in my smoothies, nothing will ever beat peanut butter (smooth please!). Nothing beats peanut butter paired with a nice and cold honeycrisp apple, with celery and raisins (ants on a log!), stirred into my oatmeal, or a childhood favorite of a peanut butter, honey, and banana sandwich.

So tell me, what is your favorite kind of butter? It doesn't have to be a nut butter, it can be the good ol' regular kind. AND, what is your favorite way to eat it with/on/in?

Who needs the blank? Might as well just say, 'I love butter.' ;)

Apple butter. On a crisp English muffin. Mmm.

Haha, Christina beat me to it -- I love butter! Peanut butter is good, too, though -- and regarding smoothies, a couple tablespoons of smooth PB, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and a splash of milk makes the absolute BEST shake everrr.

Garlic chive butter. I have a serious chive addiction. I was really disappointed that I couldn't find garlic chive seeds in the local stores this spring. I'll be ordering some online next spring to grow in addition to regular chives. Any herbed butter is a great thing to have on hand--so easy to add to vegetables, bread, toast, on top of chicken or fish. My husband loves chive and bluecheese butter on steak.

It's not exactly "nut butter", but I love Nutella. Favourite way to eat - with a spoon, straight out of the jar. Of course, there are millions of other ways, but this is the best.

@brooke29--my 10 year old son loves Nutella. He particularly loves it between peanut butter cookies.

miso butter. mmmm...

peanut butter and banana sandwich
peanut butter and hot pepper jelly sandwich
peanut butter and bacon sandwich
peanut butter on my hot dogs
can you tell i love peanut butter?

(MISO sounds SO good!)

I love sage butter on just about everything, but especially steak and potatoes.

I really love almond butter, too.

Peach butter. Like apple butter, but made with peaches. Oh, yum.

@brooke - count me in for Nutella as well.

Apple butter would be my second choice but probably because we are in the throes of Autumn. Any other time I'd probably say peanut butter - but make mine crunchy.

Real butter. not the fake yellow-tinted stuff that ruinseverything it touches. Compound butters come a close second.

This is topic is not apples to apples so to speak. Peanuts are in fact not nuts but legumes. Almond, cashew, macadamia, peanut and pistachio are not true nuts. Actual nut spreads are very high in fat. Coconut butter is a palm product 2 Tbsp has 10 grams of fat. Peanut butter has around 16.
Nutella is a flavored spread. Peach, apple and pumpkin butters are fruit and veggie spreads.
I personally don't like to spread things on my bread all the time. Sometimes I just want some bread.
I am not a peanut butter person. We hardly ever finish a jar.

peanut butter. . . . mmmmm. . . i have to keep myself from eating it out of the jar with a spoon. crunchy or smooth, i'm not picky!

Lobster butter.

When I saw "I love....butter" I thought it was a dramatic pause, not a blank!

I love butter! Melted butter on crunchy toast! Cold butter on a bread and butter sandwich or a warm corn muffin.

But I also adore peanut butter and cashew butter. Me, a spoon, a jar of peanut or cashew butter is a dangerous combination.

@HeartofGlass--I hear ya, there's nothing like chilled butter on a homemade roll for me. On another note, a friend of mine in college who's money went mostly to beer and tangueray and tonics loved "butter sandwiches." He lived on the darn things and probably kept from getting scurvy from the lemons and limes in his mixed drinks and beers. Somehow, though I have a feeling your bread and butter sandwiches are much more upscale--his were storebrand "wonderbread" and imitation butter spread.

My most recently discovered favourite snack is apples with almond butter.

@dhorst--imitation butter spread=no butter! Butter--both nut butters and 'the straight stuff' for me are things that can't be substituted. I have heard some people sing the praises of Smart Balance and 'Better than Peanut Butter' PB spread, and 'I can't believe it's not butter.' But butter is one thing for which I can't accept substitutions. Perhaps the 'fill in the blank' should be--I love-real-butter.

@HeartofGlass--I certainly know what's real butter--my grandfather, his father, etc. were dairy farmers. I never had the artificial stuff unless it was at a friend's house where there were heart issues and then I usually ate whatever without the chemical spread. My college friend was simply a guy on a budget who wanted quality liquor and beer over quality food. Personally I love real butter and have made my own before with my grandpa. That's the reason I almost always have some sort of herbed butter on hand.

sweet butter on pumpernickle, rye or whole grain bread ~ nutella on croissants, waffles or pancakes ~ peanut butter on toast or apples ~ umeboshi plum spread on roasted corn

I am lucky enough to get organic cultured butter from local farmers whose cows are pasture-fed and it is delicious! It's got so much flavor, it's definitely a bread topping on its own. (Also good: bread spread thickly with said butter and thin slices of dill pickle.)

As for nut butters: cashew is my favorite. I also really like raw almond butter (way creamier than the roasted almond kind) and peanut butter. Smooth only. Chunky is weird.

brown butter on butternut squash ravioli... ohhh.

Danish or Irish. The really purely yellow stuff. That on a piece of potato bread toast.

YUM.

I definitely love real butter, peanut butter (duh!), almond butter, and tahini (sesame seed butter). Try tahini on toast with molasses. I know, it sounds weird, but do try it. Also great with peanut butter and molasses (fueled my nephew's growth spurt).

super chunk peanut butter on a good ole piece of wheat bread, my fiance would say honey butter on a hot roll

@onepercent99 peanut butter and bacon rocks.

Parker's Farm peanut butter. All natural, no preservatives, only in the refrigerated section and we go through it almost like it's water. SOOOOO good! I'm always tempted to get the "grind it yourself" variety at stores, but HATE the texture. This stuff is the best peanut butter I've had in my entire life and we won't buy anything else. It comes in Creamy (my favorite though USUALLY I like chunky), Crunchy/Chunky which sometimes has peanut halves, and a honey roasted version of each which hubby prefers but I like the regular. YUM! Find it if you can!

I also love nutella, and of course regular butter needs no qualifications.

I forgot to mention I love PB in those kid-food peanut butter balls where it's honey, PB, oats and milk powder. Mmmm...will make soon.

peanut butter is basically the perfect food. you can cook with it, bake with it and simply eat it straight out of the jar. it goes well with savory and sweet foods. it comes in different varieties (crunchy, plain, with honey, etc.) can't beat peanut butter... i just finished eating an apple and a few carrots with peanut butter.

oh and it has to be REAL peanut butter. just peanuts. nothing else added.

@dhorst--oh, I know you know the 'quality stuff'--I was just marveling at some college guy's preferences. (I once knew of some guys who practically gave themselves scurvy living off of hot dogs to stock the 'beer budget.') I say, better a good butter budget than beer budget!

melted...with lobster and steamers!!!

Butter=yum
regular butter on waffles, pancakes, english muffins, bagels, pastina, broccili, and croissants.
Nut butters (PB and AB) on apples, bananas, bagels and in reese's
I also recently discovered pumpkin butter - great on ww bread with PB.

Over the summer, I saw cherry butter at Whole Foods and it looked amazing (kind of like a cherry jelly but much smoother). It looked like something perfect to spread on toast in the morning, and they were actually using it as a pizza sauce!

Chew on That

Lilikoi butter on an English muffin or unsalted table water crackers.

Vermont Butter & Cheese brand lightly salted butter.

Homemade Almond butter, Cashew Butter, or Apple Butter -- all fantastic!

I love anything with the name butter in it.

wasabi. goooooooood night.

@Maresy - peanut butter playdough!! Loved by all the kids I ever babysat. Peanut butter, honey, wheat germ, and I forget what else. =)

Pumpkin seed butter and sunflower butter are both pretty good. Much better than soy butter for the peanut allergic.

I have to choose one?
If it's dairy- it's real butter. But I also have nutella, almond butter, peach butter, coconut chocolate butter, peanut butter and several homemade jellies in my kitchen.

Peach butter... apple butter (especially with lots of spices)... maple butter... cranberry-orange butter...

But keeping with the "nut butter" theme of the original post, I used to LOVE peanut butter as a child (although never with chocolate, please!), but completely lost my taste for it almost overnight as an adult (although I am not allergic). I don't particularly care for nut butters at all anymore; however, pumpkin seed butter is pretty good (as mentioned above).

compound butter on a perfectly cooked strip steak

Oh man I love hot melted butter dripping from waffles, pancakes, Cinnamon rolls, danishes or any sort.

MMMmmmm.... just one? I'd say garlic butter :)

Jean Yves Bordier Salted Butter from France. Slathered on a fresh baguette. It's worth the airfare. Je te promets!
