Fast Food jones?

Since moving to Ohio almost a couple of months ago I've been on a pretty tight budget and haven't been going out much, but last night someone was gracious enough to treat me to diner and a movie and we ended up going to the Steak and Shake at The easton Town Center.

Now normally I try to stay away from fast food but I had only been to a S&S one other time while visiting my sister here and was pretty disappointed (I had a chicken sandwich and french fries). But this time I went with the Steakburger Meal and got a double steakburger with onion rings, coleslaw and a strawberry shake and I have to say I have been salivating over thoughts of that burger all day...

Anyone else have local fast food cravings they want to cop to?

Steak and Shake is my fiance's fast food jones. I tend to get cravings for burger chains that are far, far away from home. In N Out on the west coast, Whataburger in Texas, and Blake's Lotaburger in New Mexico. Oh, what I'd give to have a Blake's green chile cheeseburger right now! Nothing in Savannah tempts me nearly as much, which I suppose is a good thing. 80 miles south of us on I-95, there's an exit with both Steak and Shake and Whataburger. When we're heading to Florida, we spend an inordinate amount of time at that exit, fulfilling our burger desires!

Mmmmmmm.... In N Out Burgers......

We have a sub chain here in California called Submarina. I'm not generally a big sandwich fan, but these are really good. For burger cravings, we generally go to Fatburger (when we lived in Florida, we liked Whataburger). Right now, I'm dying for some Swapmeet Mexican. It's mainly street food like sopes, burritos, and tacos. There's this one guy who sells agua frescas that are unbelievable. Then, after I load my arteries with this grease-laden blood brake, I go produce shopping.

By Swapmeet Mexican, you are referring to the Roach Coach, yes?

The "roach coach?" No way. In Southern California Mexican street food is better than the crap in restaurants owned by non-Mexicans. All of the carne asada burritos and sopes I've eaten from street carts are just like my dad makes. Also, does anyone have a corn man? It's "fast food" technically. He sells corn slathered in mayo, parm, butter and chili. Sounds gross, but for a buck it's literally the best thing EVER.

I have had that kind of corn (roasted) at the state fair and it is YUM!

I used to get deep fried pickles at a corn dog shop in a mall in Plattsburgh, NY. That was over 15 years ago and I wish there was a place in the Syracuse, NY area that served them. Nothing has ever solved a savory salt craving like those pickles used to.

My name is Amazon Goddess and I have a secret shame.

I eat KFC.

*hangs head*

In my defense ... no, wait ... I don't have one.

*sigh*

Whataburger, Taco Cabana, Taco Bueno in Texas, Blake's Lotaburger in New Mexico, Milo's in Alabama...too many delicious places to count!

1st choice, chik-fil-a.
2nd choice, Five Guys.
3rd choice, Steak n Shake

White Castle hands down and the closest one to South Bend,IN is 40 minutes away.....I also agree to Chik-fil-a, I so had that last night and ther waffle fries are to die for.

Is five guys any good? We are getting one here and I have never heard of it.

when i was a student i jones for steak & shake, especially during/after an all nighter.

these days, every few months, i absolutely have to have some greasy Wendy's garbage, or there will be massive unhappiness.

few things are more satisfying than a slice of greasy new york pizza, the funkier the joint the better, grabbed and inhaled on the run.

church''s and popeyes chicken.

Chick-fil-A is my absolute all-time weakness. As far as I'm concerned, it may as well be crack. I know this sounds terrible, but it's the mayo that really makes it. I dip everything in their mayo...Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Sandwiches, Fries, the list goes on.

For my burger fix, I usually reach out to five guys.

Popeye's is always good, and I also have a special place in my heart for Cane's (chicken, Southern).
Chik-fil-a is okay, but the most satisfying time I had that was when I had eaten literally nothing but PBJ and granola bars for three days straight beforehand.

Five Guys

DH= KFC Just seeing him with his mouth all greasy and a huge smile on his face is worth it 2-3 times a year.

its a late night craving.

I always order my burger there with with lettuce, tomato, pickle, sauteed burgundy mushrooms, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and pepper jack cheese.
Husband switches around but orders his burger with pico de gallo, chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, sauteed burgundy mushrooms, guacamole, battered deep fried onion strings, lettuce, and tomato.

Dunkin Donuts for the pretty gifts...so unlike the cheap gifts in the US centered around kids
"That gyudon place run by one guy" (I can't rem the name but know it when I get off the train in Shinjuku) for the awesomest gyudon, even at breakfast!!
"That souki soba place" (10 minutes from my cousin's house in Okinawa) for souki soba and ashitebichi
CoCo Ichibanya Curry House for beef or eggplant curry rice

ooh, How I miss N. Carolina... they have a Burger Chain called Andy's.....oooh soo good....pair it with a their fresh squeezed orangeade.....ahhhhh...

When we lived in Kalamazoo ~ Hot 'N Now burgers
When we lived in Salt Lake ~ Carl's Jr., Arby's
Here at home ~ Nothing
When we are on vacation ~ Cheeburger, Cheeburger

I will say, we just got a Five Guys here in Portland, OR(its actually in Beaverton, but thats just a suburb) and I have to ask........what is the hype about? I mean, for like the 9$ you spend(on a baconcheeseburger w/fries) you can get one hell of a REAL restaurant burger! and its way too greasy(and I love me some fat!) and the fries just out and out suck! If youre only going to do 2 things and one of them sucks, and the other is overpriced and mediocre, I dont get the hubub!?

personally, Popeyes, El Pollo Loco, In-N-Out are all winners for me. as is Burgerville here in the PNW, but for everything besides the burgers......sweet potato fries, fresh local seasonal berry milk shakes(hell, they even use real and local ice cream)

I have pretty much sworn off fast food, except for Chik-fil-A (mostly for my kids). Except....eeeevery now and then it hits me...
Big Mac Attack!! when it does, nothing else will satisfy like two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. And salty, salty fries. And a diet coke. ;o)

Love that chicken from Poeyes!

El Pollo Loco's BRC burritos (beans, rice, cheese) with sour cream
Quizno's
But by far my favorite fast food is Taco Bell.
This is bad. I know it. But when I'm ... er.. inebriated, nothing tastes better.

Nathan's, Papaya King, Five Guys.

It's officially KFC Bowl weather!

Dick's Drivein cheesburger, fries and the tartar to dip the fries in.
Red Robin fries.
Jack in the Box breakfast jack, or their new egg bowls, their fries..
Kentukey Fried Chicken bowl thingy
pizza anywhere
A whopper w/cheese and fries Burger King
Qrter Pounder w/cheese and fries McDonalds
Anything at Taco del Mars
Any fast food that is meaty, cheasy, something that has the juices dripping from the corner of my mouth will do.
Paula Deens donut burger but with an egg on top, OMG that sounds so good and order it with a diet coke of course.

Chili Cheese Burrito, Beef Mexi-Melt from Taco Bell. (meep)

Chili Cheese Tator Tots from Sonic (we just got a Sonic, yippee).

@ Cassaendra
"McDonald's for Portuguese sausage with eggs and rice" I love that! it's so cute the way major chains adjust to local foods and that you knew to check it out.

As for me, I like messing with the folks at Burger King and ordering the veggie burger. And definitely love Wendy's - I get a frosty, side salad, and baked potato, roughly $3. Otherwise, there is a local sandwich shop here in Maine that has really good homemade bread.

Also, corn dogs are not fast food; they are fair food which is a totally awesome category in itself.

Taco Cabana in Texas! My husband used to accuse me of being an addict.
And drunk food? Jack in the Box tacos. (which are nothing like real tacos, but sooo good)

In North Carolina, there is a small burger chain called Cookout...They have such good burgers and cajun fries and more flavors of milkshake than I can think of...

It is why I miss my old college...

@blizcheetah
Fair food... oooooh
That's how my daughter and I describe what we did while we were at the Tx State Fair. I met up with ___ and we got corny dogs, then we walked over to big Tex and looked around for chocolate, nut covered frozen bananas, When ___ got there we headed to the funnel cakes (a little light headed and woozy here)...
Oh wait. This is a whole 'nother thread.

Every so often I will get a hankering for wings from the local Quaker Steak and Lube and I can usually fight it off until I forget about it, but if it is a Tuesday night all bets are off. Tuesdays, for all of you who don't know, are unlimited wing nights for 10 bucks. I just can't stop myself from eating all those wings and although I am stuffed and nearly miserable at the end and still stuffed and only slightly miserable the next morning....it is always worth it.

I crave Krystals because we don't have any here :(
Sonic and Chikfila are my other fast food must haves.
