Dining in Kansas City, MO
Hello Foodies! I will be visiting the family during the Christmas vacation. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a nice dinner with friends? Not too fancy...maybe around $30 a plate? I especially love Italian food! If you know of a place that makes home made pasta please let me know. Thanks for your suggestions!

Lidia Bastianich,has a place near Union Station, called Lidia's (of course), we took my Mom there in May for her birthday and it was great. And I believe they do make their own pasta.
There's also a nice little place called Room 39 on 39th Street, it's not Italian, but it has a nice menu and cozy dining room. They often change around their menu.
Also, I used to live down the street from Blue Bird Cafe on Summit and 17th Street, they use a lot of local organic ingredients.

Carmen's Cafe in Brookside is a personal favorite. There's also a new place downtown called Bice, where I recently had some amazing gnocchi.
And I second Alm25, Room 39 is delicious!

Lidia's is great -- nice atmosphere, not too expensive. They've got a pasta special where for about $20 at lunch and $25 at dinner, you get ceasar salad, the three pastas of the day, and tiramisu. I've been there about a dozen times and it's always been great. They have a very reasonable winelist and I also recommend the fried calamari.

Just wanted to say that I highly recommend dining at Lidia's Kansas City while you are there- they are offering a traditional 'Feast of the Seven Fishes,' up until and including Christmas Eve. Of course they will be serving their a la carte menu, as well. Definitely worth a trip!
