cooking 2 turkeys
This may seem odd, but I have never cooked 2 turkeys at the same time. I have 2, 12 lb. turkeys. Does that mean if I am supposed to cook one for 3 hours, that I have to cook them for 6? Seems like a long time. Any advice you can give me would be helpful.

if you can fit 2 into your oven, i would say they could both be done in
3 hours -- you have to make sure you rotate them around and keep an eye on them. if you're fitting them into one pan, try to transpose them, meaning put the inner side of the birds on the outside of the pan to ensure even browning. you kind of have to play it by ear on the time.... when they register 170 degrees (you'd better check me on that) take them out, wrap in foil and let them rest for 20 minutes.....
as long as there is room in the oven to circulate the heat, you should be fine. i'm making two 12 lbrs... but i'm frying them. one at a time!
30 minutes each.... i'll never roast a turkey again.

Roasting two at a time might take a little longer, but not twice as long. Just give yourself a little wiggle room as far as having it done on time, and if the turkey rests a little longer, it's not such a big deal. I think most folks err on the other side, and don't let it rest long enough before they carve.
As far as temp, 170 degrees is too high. And it also depends on where you're testing the temp. Keep in mind that when you take the turkey out of the oven, the temp is going to continue rising for a while. Alton Brown's method suggests cooking to 161 degrees at the thickest part of the breast, and then the carryover heat takes it all the way to being done.

I've roasted two about that same size. I find it much more manageable than trying to deal with a 24 lb. turkey. If you can fit them into two separate roasting pans on the same shelf, your timing would be about the same as for one bird, plus a few minutes. If you have to put them into the same roasting pan, plan to remove them early, place on a baking sheet, bump up the oven temp to 450, foil any skin that is golden and crispy and crisp the skin - about 25 minutes give or take. One at a time or both together, depending on whether they have room for the hot air to brown them. I take mine out when the thigh temp is 165, tent with foil and let rest for at least 20 minutes to 40 minutes.

hello, happy thanksgiving to all. special thank you to all that answered this question., as i have 2 12lb turkeys this year and was not sure if i put them in at the same time(in seperate pans) how long it would take.
