Make hot chocolate mix, divide it into baggies, put baggies inside festive holiday mugs. Decorate with candy canes and ribbon. Give away as gifts.
Seriously, though, that stuff will last a loooong time, so there's no harm in letting it sit for a while.
If you do any baking for the holidays, you can substitute the powder and some butter for unsweetened chocolate. Don't have the exact proportions at my fingertips, but it's fairly simple.

How about making your own cocoa covered almonds ? Does anyone know how ? I love to eat those things by the handful !!

The Martha Stewart ultimate chocolate cake uses cocoa.

it is very good.

The "Deep Dark Chocolate cake" recipe on the Hershey's web site is great. Or you can use the conversion chart on the back of the Hershey's can to use it as a substitute for unsweetened chocolate.

Throw the Hershey's in the trash, for starters.
And I second dbcurrie's comment. Love the gift idea! I just might do that myself for Secret Santa this year.

OMG, you are soooooo lucky. I thought I had experienced chocolately brownies before but NOT until I used cocoa powder did I get that deep, soul-rocking, ear-ringing chocolate blast. If you have any recipe for brownies in your Ghirardelli goodies, make a batch. QUICKLY. If no recipes came with the cocoa, visit their website while preheating the oven.

I agree with buffy, toss the Hershey's.
How about chocolate, chocolate chip cookies?

I love this chocolate whisky bundt cake recipe from Epicurious.

It's really easy to make, comes out super moist and requires no icing whatsoever.

You can take any recipe that calls melted unsweetened chocolate and substitute 1 tbsp oil and 3 tbsp cocoa powder. This provides a different depth to cakes and I use it in one of my favorites-choc buttermilk cake.

@ Iz...come on, girl. You know you dont mean that about the Hersheys. It has a purpose somewhere. You know...like when you feel obligated to take something to an event but you really dont want to use the best stuff because you are perfectly aware that these people hosting the event really crawl out of a sewer and night and happily feed their children boxed mac and cheese and bologna on white bread for dinner.
My name is ChelleyD and I have Hershey's Cocoa in my spice cabinet right now and I plan to use it within the next 2 months.
SOMEBODY on SE posted that they ate chocolate and banana pudding recently. Whomever it was on whatever thread it was, can you please own up to it and post it???

Use the cocoa in this wonderfully chocolatey banana cake. You can make it two ways. My latest version has white chocolate chips and coconut.

I highly recommend these triple chocolate espresso cookies. VERY delicious, and you can sub other mix-ins for the espresso beans (like dried cherries).

I agree with several others on the Hershey's. Throw it away. . For future reference, Trader Joe's Cocoa Powder is the best I've ever tasted.
Try this fabulous cake that uses a lot of cocoa powder. It freezes nicely as well.

I just had a chocolate cranberry bread at my favorite brasserie...it was so good, I asked for the recipe, but the restaurant would only say that it was a standard bread recipe with the addition of cocoa powder, dried cranberries, and wlanuts. I bought some craisins and I've been googling chocolate cranberry bread. Can't wait to see what happens.

@Chell ~ you need to clean out your spice cabinet. ;-)

ChelleyD01, I totally agree with you on the Hershey's. I do the same with butter. Butter for me, margarine for people who can't tell the difference. Cuts cookie making costs by a lot.
sarahj at 11:31PM on 11/08/08
Throw away the Hershey's? What happened to giving away/sharing? Kids will probably love the stuff, so I second the suggestion to make hot chocolate mix to give away. It's really sad/pathetic to think about throwing over perfectly good food or usable ingredients. Just my two cents.
