Christmas Candy!

Hello! My mom and I are planning on making Christmas candy for presents this year. How long in advance can we make them? Days? Weeks?

Every year I make lots of candy for Christmas as well - and I do it a few days before(shorter then 5 days), just for freshness. I set aside a day that I have free and do nothing but make the candies. It depends on what you are making but I would (personally) do it a week or two maximum. Most recipes will tell you how long the candies can be stored however.

exactly, it really depends on the type of candy you are making. I've already started on my brittles for Thanksgiving, because they will be shipped cross country, but anything for Xmas I wont start untill at most a week before.

Peppermint Bark and truffles. I will wait until the last minute for the truffles, hopefully the bark can sit for about a week.

rum balls. you can tell if anyone is eating them. they get pink noses. if you store them right. they are good for about a week or so.

I have done a similar thing for past Christmases. I make chocolate covered peanut butter balls and if kept in an airtight container they stay well preserved for at least 3-4 weeks (even with people opening the container and sneaking PB balls here and there). I think you would extend the life of your candy if you gifted the candy in decorative Tupperware or tins. This way the Christmas cheer lasts well beyond Christmas!
