What serves well with lemoncello?!

Hi All!

For Christmas every year I give away gift baskets filled with home-made goodies to my family and friends. This year I wanted to give Lemoncello in my gift basket.

My question to you is, what would be a good compliment to add to the basket that would off-set the sweet and sour of Lemoncello?

I was thinking a bread and jam, maybe....?

Please help!

Thanks,

uaskigyrl!

Honestly, I think most people who get gift baskets will disassemble them and use the ingredients separately, unless you hand it to them and send them off on a picnic. So the things don't really have to go together, unless you want to have theme, just for the fun of it.

That said, I'd think of limoncello as more of an after-dinner drink, so maybe some sort of cookies? Bread and jam, taste-wise, might fit, but that sounds like breakfast to me.

Aren't there mixed drinks that use limoncello? Maybe recipe cards for those, along with ingredients?

ooooh good idea with the recipe cards! Thanks!

Perhaps a dessert, since limoncello is an after-dinner drink? I know that chocolate cake (of the not-too-sweet variety) goes well with it, and I suspect that something like a pignoli cookie might be another nice accompaniment.

Or you could create two or three flavored liquors - both arancello and zenzerino use a similar process with oranges and ginger, respectively - and give three smaller bottles with a couple of nice cordial glasses?

I agree with dbcurrie, people eat what they like and do what they like. When I make gift baskets up I always give one of each of the following
Wine
Cheese
crackers
cookies
chocolate
tea bread
jelly/jam/preserves
unusual pasta
bbq sauce/mustard/condiment
pickeled veggies
dried fruit

I sometimes make some and buy some. Trader Joes for some things.
Then I go to a few gourmet places and pick up other stuff

I'm currently brewing a batch of limoncello that will be done just before Christmas. I intend on giving some away paired with homemade anisette cookies. To me at least this sounds like a good match.

Champagne, prosecco or sparkling wine.

Lavender shortbread comes to mind -- easy to make and will keep relatively well ...

As Limoncello is from the Ravello area on the Amalfi Coast originally, keep it simple, with Procsecco as Kim54 suggested, add some Pistacios, Torrone (Italian nougat in chocolate) and traditional Italian Christmas cake, Pannatone. If it is for fast consumption and some fresh fruit.

A nice jar of lemon curd & some blueberry sauce.

A wonderful drink: Blueberry Limoncellos

Ingredients

* 1 cup Frozen Wild Blueberries or fresh blueberries
* 3 tbsp. simple syrup* or sugar
* 3 tbsp. lemon juice
* 1 cup chilled limoncello liqueur or lemonade (regular or sparkling)
* 3/4 to 1 cup chilled Club Soda or sparkling water

*To make simple syrup combine equal parts water and sugar stirred over heat and brought to a boil, then cooled to room temperature.
Steps

1. In a blender, whirl blueberries, simple syrup, and lemon juice with just enough limoncello to make a smooth slush. (For a firmer slush, pour into a small bowl and freeze for up to 2 hours. To store up to 2 weeks, put slush in a resealable freezer bag, seal, and freeze. To use, let stand at room temperature a few minutes to soften slightly.)
2. Divide berry slush among 4 tall glasses (8 to 12oz. size), add equal portions limoncello; fill with club soda. Garnish with fresh berries on skewers; swizzle as you sip.

These are really good!

I really like my limoncello in the hot tub - but it's darn hard getting those in a gift basket! LOL

I like the idea of lemon curd since I will have lemons that are not being used and I would hate to waste them....my follow on question now is, is it necessary to have lemon zest in lemon curd, since I'm using the lemon peels in the Limoncello?

I think that would depend on your recipe. But since you're going to have all those lemons left I'd think lemon curd would be a great project.
