The best food in Oklahoma
Sometimes I think my state is overlooked in particular gems of the food world. Also, that my state is overlooked in general, and I love it here! If any of you have certain Oklahoma food memories i'd like to hear them.
Things that enjoy about my state are..
1. Braums! I know there are a few outside of oklahoma, but none are more than one days drive from the dairy in Tuttle. Braums is one of only two large independant dairy's in the United States, and the Products are very, very good (cottage cheese, milk, ice cream (best i've had packaged), cheese, ect) plus its a hamburger joint! I know some are dirty, i'm not sure why.. but In the next year all of the stores (ice cream and dairy stores) will be serving pure, oklahoma beef! Also, its the only skim milk that is double concentrated by a process they invented. Hooray for Braums!
2. Del Rancho. Its the best chicken fried steak i've had in my entire life. and you order your meal over a phone.
3. Okarche (eichens) fried chicken, the best fried chicken i've ever had, in the oldest bar in oklahoma. insane whole birds served on white paper with a basket of pickles, onions, and white bread.
4. There are two places, on in oklahoma city (Juniors) and in tulsa (Celebrity Club) that are pretty famous for table side ceasers, fried chicken, and steaks. The decore is straight 1950's, red velvet, piano player every day, and sunkin bar. foil lined wall paper is great too.
5. Jamils! The best Lebonese steak house. In business for over 60 years, the setup is great. Hickory smoked steaks, and the meal before the meal. Cabbage rolls, hummas, tabouli, pita, smoked meat tray, salad, veggies, and that homemade steak sauce, all included in every dinner.
6. Fin and Feather resort. Its basically the resort from dirty dancing, with themed buffets every night, giant organ and girls dancing to the sounds of that themed night! Lake tenkiller!
I could go on, but what have you experienced?

Hail to Braum's! As we drove from St. Louis to Plano, TX, on our yearly Thanksgiving pilgrimages, it was always a big deal to find the first Braum's. When one arrived in Springfield, MO, it was a surprise. My stepdaughter had one in walking distance of her home in Plano. Love that limeade....

Stonehorse Cafe and Te Kei's are both great (Tulsa, Utica area).
Whenever I visit family in Oklahoma the place I always want to go is Hideaway.

What about Hank's Hamburger's in Tulsa.....we live in NWA and we are frequent visitors to tulsa.....we always stop at Hank's for a burger before we go home! We have a Braums here too and it's our favorite ice cream place!

Braums, Braums, Braums!!! Ice cream shakes, malts, burgers, fries, and cherry limeades. Been years...if I ever get back to Tulsa I'll definitely be stopping in for a meal or two.

I have to mention BoBo's fried chicken in OKC. Its a trailer setup in the ghetto, open 7pm 4am. Its smoked chicken wings, then fried, then coated in honey. Its amazing.
The vietnamese population in OKC is giant, so we are fortunate to have many rad Pho places there too.
The best mexican food i've ever had in oklahoma is Finos. Its right west of town on Hwy 51 outside of Tahlequah. Its the most authentic, delicious mexican. Only shredded beef, pure ground chiles, old old recipes. There is very little cheese on anything, if at all. hand made flour and corn tortillas. I've NEVER had a meal that was subpar.
My father owns Pearls Oyster bar, and the new one is pretty good.. I'd have to honestly say the quality has gone down over the years.

Oh, and a bit more about Braums. The reason there is no braums withen a days drive from Tuttle is so the truck drives can spend ever night with their families. awww. Go to their website www.braums.com and watch the video. pretty awesome.

I always preferred the Chuck House in OKC on Northwest 10th and Meridian for CFS, I think it is better than Del Rancho, but bioth are very good.
Ted's Cafe Escondido has the best Mexican food anywhere, on in OKC May just north of 63rd.
Braums is easy to take for granted, but now that I am gone I sure do miss them.
I also miss Sonic corn dogs.

Braums! Goodness, I do miss their strawberry ice cream. Their cottage cheese is the only cottage cheese I've ever liked!
Johnnie's burgers in OKC are a craving that hits me pretty hard. Their cheese is so superior to all other cheese on a burger ever. AHHHHH I want a #8 now! I know it will taste just like I remember and I haven't had one in like 13 years.

When I went to college in Kansas, my dad discovered Braums. He loved it. Every time he was back there visiting he at as many meals as he could at the place.

Best pizza - The Wedge. Try the white pizza with spinach and a spray of truffle oil - those guys know what's good!
Kimc54 at 9:05AM on 10/22/08
Yeah.. the truffle oil does it.. I really like the Theta burger at johnnies. Shredded cheddar, hickory sauce, pickles and mayo. somehow it works.. also, the Ceaser Burger is pretty rad.

I am so excited to see this thread! I live in Claremore and it seems like OK is completely overlooked for new restaurants or even unusual food to be stocked in grocery stores. I too am a braums lover and there is a place in Bartlesville called wolarac that has buffalo burgers that are great. Ahhh good times!

I grew up in Oklahoma and think that we often get overlooked in regionaist culinary scene. BBQ is a perfect example. I know of no other place where you can get equally good pork and beef barbeque or ANY place that does beef ribs as well. When I lived in North Carolina I had a hard time convincing anyone that it was even possibe to barbeque a beef rib. I still remember Elliots Original on Brookside. Best beef ribs ever. Hickory sauce came warm on the side in one of those diner style metal creamers. And what about bologna? I love bbq'd bologna (as do a lot of folks in Oklahoma) but I've never seen it available outside of the Sooner State.
