Sunday Brunch in Brooklyn OR UWS
Spending a quick weekend with friends in Brooklyn (and/or the Upper West Side, depending on what happens Saturday night). The one meal we don't have planned is Sunday brunch, and I'd love to try somewhere new.
Know of any great, moderately priced places near Crown Heights or 107th and Central Park West? Preferably with champagne?

Patois on Smith is not near Crown Heights, but I've travelled great distances to get there for the comforting $12 brunch with unlimited mimosa (nice atmosphere, takes reservations - which I would strongly recommend). Depending on where you are in Crown Heights, you could take the 2/3 or 4/5 to Borough Hall and have a nice walk there, maybe 10 mins. If there's a wait, Stinky Cheese down the block is a nice place to get some pre-brunch snacks.

Cheryl's Global Soul in Prospect Heights (close to Crown Heights, right near the Brooklyn Museum) serves one of the best brunches I've had, anywhere, ever. Seasonal, local ingredients, unexpected and ridiculously tasty dishes, great service. For instance (from their website): "smoked salmon over crispy potato pancakes, poached eggs on smoked trout hash, fluffy blueberry buttermilk pancakes"... so good. So good!

I love the brunch at Chestnut on Smith Street in Brooklyn (sorry, also not near Crown Heights), especially the poached eggs with prosciutto and hollandaise on popovers - yum!

I'll vouch for Melt in Park Slope. Train stops: Atlantic/Pacific (B/D/M/N/R/Q/W/2/3/4/5 trains) & Bergen (2/3 train). Really good kobe beef burgers if you and your friends are like me and dig burgers for brunch. They have delicious standard fare, too: Eggs benedict, mimosas, bloody marys, etc. Sleek, modern, dark wood w/ white accent kind of place but very low-key.

Lots of UWS brunch recommendations in this recent thread.

If you stay in Brooklyn, point yourself in the direction of Park Slope. It very well may be the brunch capital of the world. Places I've tried and recommend: Stone Park, Miriam, Rosewater, Moutarde, NoNo Kitchen, Perch, and Belleville.

I'd agree Park Slope is a great place for brunch, though I'm biased (and also don't think brunch is a great meal in general, but that's another topic). A Park Slope place not mentioned that I love is Little D Eatery. As far as those mentioned already, I heartily second Stone Park, but have had mediocre experiences at Moutarde and NoNo. Enjoy....
And I hope Saturday night goes the whichever way you hope ;)

I don't know Brooklyn at all, but Ocean Grill on the UWS is great for Sunday brunch. I recently went with a large group and we all had a good meal and a good time. They have a really comprehensive brunch menu so you have lots to choose from.

I just read over the UWS comments in the thread Alaina linked to, and yeah they're good, but 40 blocks south of where you were thinking.
bagel
absolute bagels on broadway & 107 is my favorite bagelry in new york
crepes
crepes on columbus, columbus & 108ish
general brunch
zanny's cafe across columbus is not bad either, but is kind of tiny.
community food & juice on broadway @ 113th is quite good, especially if you want organic or sustainably-raised bacon.
kitchenette on amsterdam @ 122ish is good, but has ungodly crowds on sundays
hearty hangover cures
miss mamie's spoonbread too - southern food on 110th between amsterdam and columbus.
taqueria y fonda la mexicana - huevos rancheros anyone? I eat there often, but it is not for the faint-stomached.
