Food
Not broke, but still tasty.
Growing up my parents didn't have a lot of money. Actually, there were times where they had no money for groceries at all and we lived off of food I swore I'd NEVER eat again.
Now I'm an adult and though times are hard, thankfully I'm never so broke that I can't afford food. Funnily enough some of my most beloved comfort foods are the things I ate on a daily basis as a child when my parents couldn't afford the "real" food I craved.
On this beloved list of dirt cheap comfort foods is fried egg sandwiches with mayo, ketchup and Tapatio hot sauce, a big pot of pinto beans mixed with Mexican chorizo which is smothering fried or roasted potatoes, Spanish rice with baked chicken legs, spaghetti noodles tossed with butter, garlic salt and Parmesan out of the big, green can and last but not least, my mom's "goulash." It's not traditional Hungarian Goulash, but rather this weird mixture of elbow macaroni, hamburger meat, marinara sauce and cheddar cheese. I think it's a southern thing because my boyfriend's mom makes the exact same thing and she calls it goulash as well.
What about everyone else? Aside from disgusting Ramen noodles, do you still love some of your beloved broke foods?
