Nice Restaurant for Dinner in Beacon, NY?

I'm heading upstate to Beacon this weekend - any suggestions on good restaurants for a nice/classy/romantic dinner and a drink? Coincidentally there was an article on Beacon in NYT this week, but the restaurants it recommended seemed more like lunch places. (http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/travel/12HourFrom.html). Or would I be better served by going out for dinner in a nearby town like Cold Spring, etc? Thanks!

man! when i saw the topic, i was going to link you to that nyt article! i've been wanting to get up to beacon myself, so i'm interested to hear what you come up with as far as dining option.

I just graduated from Vassar in Poughkeepsie and had a great family dinner the night before at Il Barilotto in Fishkill which is very close to Beacon, about a 10 minute drive. http://www.ilbarilottorestaurant.com/ and here is a review http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070816/ENT02/708170305

i went to vassar too! ('06) so i am familiar with potown-area restaurants but want to explore something closer to beacon. thanks for the suggestion, but italian isn't really our thing. will prob end up checking out a new wine bar called Chill - couldn't find a website yet, but just read about it here http://reclaimedhome.com/2008/10/14/muddy-cup-now-in-the-wine-biz/

Ahhh Beacon! My entire family grew up there, though we moved just over the river to Newburgh when I was 2. It wasn't nearly as nice when I was growing up, but now, it's just amazing. I worked at Dia, the art museum there, and it's been so nice seeing the town evolve.

Sorry for the rant, I just get excited hearing about my unofficial hometown on this esteemed food blog.

Cafe Amarcord is great if you're looking for a nice night out. They make wonderful Italian food that extends far beyond red sauce and meatballs. http://www.cafeamarcord.net/

hi, I am a volunteer on a business/art association in Beacon and 7-year resident. There are a lot of good places to eat in Beacon, check out www.beaconarts.org. For romance, I would suggest La Tasca, an intimate place that gives a new spin South American specialties (ie, great ceviches). I personally find Amarcord a little, heavy and overpriced. If you are looking for Thai, check out Sukhothai. Brother's has a very cozy little back room with a fireplace and a warm atmosphere to match. Have fun! Beacon is so much fun, i love living here - visit again on the second saturday of each month for special happenings. Chill is great too (was looking for website too when I came across this). I believe it's only open Thursday through Monday. Like many of the businesses on Main Street, they coordinate with Dia's hours. Check the website(s) to be sure.
