Jump start on holiday treats!
OK, I know it's early, but I started stocking up on holiday treat supplies and I can't wait to get started! Nuts and butter are in the freezer and I'm putting up stashes of sugar and flour. So what's everyone planning on making this year?
For me it's:
Honey Rosemary Mixed Nuts (as wedding favors for a friend)
Peanut Brittle, tons and tons of it!
Bourbon Toffee with Bittersweet Chocolate and Pecans
Oklahoma Brown Candy
Southern Cheese Wafers
Pumpkin Bread
Lemon Thyme Pinenut Bread (Martha recipe)
And some cookies, I suppose. It's the candy that really holds my interest. So, anyone else excited about the upcoming season?

Probably more rum cake than the world really needs.
I guess I should go looking for rum on sale.
And one for me.

I've already sent glazed pecans and pumpkin bread to hubby in Iraq. They should survive the mail. I hope.

I'm big on making cookies during the holidays (and the rest of the year), and I think I'll make some cranberry oatmeal cookies and ginger molasses cookies for sure this year. I've been making pumpkin muffins and the like already.

Pepper jelly, Limoncello, spiced nuts. I like to think I am giving my loved ones all they need for Happy Hour.

Spiced nuts, french chocolates, peanut butter balls, tons of cookies: sugar, big fat chewy chocolate chip, sometype of oatmeal, snickerdoodle, and maybe biscotti or gingerbread.

I'm not going to do alot of baking this year but i will be making tons of spiced nuts, and peanut brittle, and probably some kind of gluten free cookie if i can find a recipe. that's about it though SO doesnt much care for cookies/pies/cakes so most of what i make is his fav peanut brittle and maybe some homemade sucker bombs (think lolipops in balls minus the stick) those are his favs so probably what I'll concentrate on making.

@dbcurrie: so you're why the rum is gone.
Every Christmas I make a crapload of cookies for the highway patrol office where my husband works. This year I plan to bake:
Chocolate chip
Potato chip
White chip
Pecan tarts
It seems like no matter how many cookies I make they disappear within a couple days. I make more every year but they go just as quickly! We also have a Christmas "goodie contest" at my office, and this year I plan on bringing carrot cake.

I'm going to attempt my family's long-standing tradition of making Sugared Walnuts at Christmastime. The recipe has been handed down to daughters and daughters-in-law for generations (not even sure which side of the family it came down from), but when my grandma died, it was my dad who ended up with it. I guess none of the DILs were into that stuff. Dad gave it to me many years ago, but it was my ex (a guy who can barely boil water) who mastered the recipe, because I have an unhealthy fear of candy-making. Although we split years ago, he still makes them for me and my folks at Christmas. Pretty nice, huh?
Anyway. Ex moved out of state a few months ago, so unless dad or brother makes them, the only way anybody will get any is if do it myself. This is the year of overcoming my irrational candy phobia. We'll see how it goes. Shudder.
An aside to @beth1... didn't know your hubby had been deployed. Did I miss that? Was it recently? Hope you're hanging in there okay...

Cookies as usual. I have 50 lbs of flour sitting in the basement.

Pumpkin bread pudding is in the works. Really good homemade egg nog. Planning a full meal for me and OH. He's making apple pie. Lots and lots of chocolate chip cookies. Toll House pie. Maybe pumpkin bread or carrot cake "cookies" with a cream cheese icing. See Pioneer Woman's website for some of what got my mouth watering this morning.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make pumpkin whipped cream? I feel like that might be amazing. OH has two whipped cream machines and a KA mixer.

elderberry44 at 7:20PM on 10/20/08
rum cake
chocolate chip cookies
oatmeal cookies
Everything else is up in the air. I'm not sure how Christmas baking is going to work with a baby.

I bake like a madwoman during the holidays:
- Pumpkin Bread
- Cranberry Bread
- A mess of cookies including gingerbread (chewy, traditional, and of the gingersnap variety), pecan fingers, sugar (traditional and iced), and MS's caramel cashew cookies
- Fudge
- Peanut Butter Balls
- Marshmallows (a first for me!)
I'm also a fan of some more simple bites: chocolate dip pretzels (preferrably rods) and the pretzel squares or rounds topped with a rolo or kiss baked, then smooshed by an M&M to make a decadent sweet and salty treat.
