Jacques Pépin

Is it just me or is Jacques Pépin aging very well? He must be in his mid-late 70's but looks just great! I love how he pronouces words that are the same in French and English always with the French pronunciation."Salade" not "salad". This 30-something year old has a bit of a crush...

Oh yeah... And his recipes are great. I always get compliments when I cook his food - all the more reason to lurrrve him!

He rules. I try to watch his show on PBS whenever I can.

He is certainly aging well -- no doubt in no small part to his sensibility about his choice of food.

I got interested in cooking due to his show in the Bay Area in 1989, and the book Today's Gourmet (1991) were my first attempts. Surprisingly tasty, in spite of my total beginner's approach to prep techniques and cutting skills.

For the 30-somethings and others, France and the rest of Europe have plenty of similar personalities -- very friendly, polite, well-schooled in a skill or three, precise, etc -- it's not all Sloppy Joes from the Midlands or the Midi, you know! (This friendly local Hawaiian god is 600000 years old and as such is no longer interested in young folks' crushes -- but sure like your Orange Crush modern soda! Some mortal human should deliver a case to my heiau on Molokai this weekend to receive a blessing on her/his taro crop. "Thank you for your support.")

I went to a talk and book signing he did in New York a few weeks ago, and I can confirm that he is indeed aging well. Quick-witted, friendly, still cooking. He's a silver fox.

Have you seen his bit on UGLY BETTY last week as Daniel jrs father? How
great was that? He was looking better than ever.

I think he was dj's grandpere, and he looked terrific. Spoke French quite well, too. (It's a joke, son).

He is the perfect package I wish someone would give me for Christmas.

He's what? NOOOooooo. Ok, his unmarried clone then. Might could you make him 30 years younger so I'd be able to keep him for a long, long time? I'll take really good care of him and he'll take even better care of me. I'll get you that perfume you wanted in exchange?

Send him a card on December 18th. He'll be 73. I hope I am in such good shape when I get there. Love his style in the kitchen.

I personally think he is incredibly sexy. It's not just his appearance (that's usually secondary for me). It's his passion for what he does. It's his intelligence and knowledge and his desire to share what he knows with others. It's his obvious kindness and interest in people. It's his evident joie de vivre. It's the fact that he's interested (i.e., not bored with the world).

Those things have always been sexy. They transcend age and appearances. The fact that he's a damned fine looking older man is like icing on an already excellent cake. (Of course, I have a decided weakness for older men, but still. What's not to love?)

@LoCo: Well stated. I agree with you!

Hey LoCo, apropos icing - didn't you say you liked your cake naked?:-)

But seriously, I agree wholeheartedly. The man is absolutely fascinating, and I reckon this is an appropriate time to admit that I reverently TiVo his PBS series (although it doesn't seem to have a regular time slot, at least round here).

Europeans are the ONLY men.

He is just super! I can't think of another celebrity chef who inspires such confidence in me. Somehow he makes me sure I can do whatever it is. He has that gift of connecting as if each viewer were the only viewer.

i loved his book, the apprentice. he's had quite an interesting life!

@ cybercita.... I second your opinion..... great book, well done.

I met him in New York several years ago, at the Fancy Food Show. Since I speak some French we were able to have some fun with our conversation and he signed his latest book ("Cooking with Claudine") for me. What a charming, gracious, fine looking man. I was in love. And I've been married for 45 years....

I wouldn't miss his show for the world. My husband remarked this morning (while watching me drool and moan) that he's lived in the States long enough that he shouldn't have that strong French accent. I threw something at him to shut him up. Jacques could be making SOS and I'd still stare glassy-eyed at the TV. I cannot think of anyone with the complete package that he has. And, oh yeah, he can cook too!

Seriously, I'm loving his new series; straightforward recipes that are simple enough for almost anyone to make, but still encompass his cooking style. Thanks again PBS.

I love the fact that he and I use the exact same onion-chopping technique. Makes me feel so... competent!
