Goodbye Mother's Cookies. No more pink & white animal cookies?
Is anyone else saddened by this? Mother's Cookies shuts down and seeks bankruptcy protection.
I know they weren't the healthiest, and I've only rarely eaten them in the past 20 years, but the pink and white animal crackers are a big memory from my childhood. The Mother's assortment was always a staple in our house. They didn't replace homemade, but they were still good.

Sad indeed....but I think we knew this was coming when they pulled out of Oakland a couple of years ago. Had an apt down the block years ago & boy I don't miss that sugar smell at 3am yet I still craved it by 3 pm.

That is very sad. There was always crappy food to eat in my house, but none of the junk food I ever liked. Every now and then I'd go to the grocery store with my Gramps and I'd pick out a big bag of the pink and white animal cookies. Now that I think about it, there was something weird about them. Like when you ate too many it would leave this weird film on your tongue similar to what happens after you've eaten greasy, fatty fast food. That's not the cutest illustration, but I'll really miss seeing them in stores. My nieces loved them.

Oh my! Taffy Sandwich cookies dipped in coffee. A friend and I could sit and eat a whole bag of them - geeze, and I was skinny as a rail then.

Those were one of the treats my dad would get if we were going someplace (like a football or baseball game or we were on vacation!). I may have to go out and get some this weekend.

Here in Ohio they are Archway cookies. One of their factories was in Ashland right beside one of the car dealerships my dad owned, man did that place smell awesome! It was great going outside and smelling cookies all the time, that was my sister's first comment when I told her they closed. They also used to give my dad all kinds of free cookies and were a great small town company.
They packed up last Friday firing around 100 employees that had shown up for work and had no clue it was their last day. Sad stuff.
Their iced oatmeal cookies were always my favorites.

Not quite the same as dunking a circus animal cookie in a cold glass of milk, but this is still pretty cool:

My Mom's addicted to Archway molasses cookies. She called the company once to complain, and they said that they license-out their cookie baking to a lot of small, localized bakeries. Her molasses cookies are made in Reisertown (sp) PA. Maybe there's still hope for some of our favorites?

At least I now know why I can't find the iced oatmeal raisin cookies. I have been looking for them from one coast to the other and during a recent trip to CA was told of the closing of the company. Man what I wouldn't give for a couple of bags of these cookies and a cold glass of milk. Bite a hole in one corner, let the cookie fill up with milk, pop it in your mouth and, HEAVEN! Come on Kellogs, bring them back and I'll even eat your Corn Flakes again! Promise!

Aloha from Hawaii. As a kid in Oregon, Mother's iced Animal Cookies had 3 iced cookies. Pink, white AND chocolate.
Funny story... When Mother's announced their 75th anniversary some years ago, I called the company. I suggested that for their 75th anniversary they put back in the chocolate iced animal cookies. The woman at Mother's said to me, "How old are you?" I said old enough to remember pink, white AND chocolate Animal Cookies. We both had a good laugh. I was in my early 40's when Mother's had their 75th anniversary.
To this day, iced Animal Cookies are still my favorite cookie. I still want to see iced chocolate Animal Cookies... then again, I remember licorice popcicles too - they were white in color and tasted like black licorice.
And please bring back Gauchos! Most of us love peanut butter type cookies. Aloha everyone!
