Good eats in Akron, Ohio?
Heading to Akron this weekend and looking for restaurant recommendations. Nothing too fancy - we're on a bit of a budget kick - but hope to find a couple good places with reasonable prices. (Or one place to splurge a bit.) Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks everyone.

I am in Akron from time to time on business and Moe's in Cuyahoga Falls has never let me down- great, fresh food in an unpretentious environment:

I lived in Akron for about twelve years and around Akron for all of my life. If you're looking for something relatively inexpensive you MUST go to Luigi's. It's an Akron institution. While I would prefer a New York slice, their pizza is amazing. I also recommend the baked lasagna. Be advised, they only accept cash (no credit or debit cards) and there's sometimes a line out the door on weekends. It's totally worth it.

If you're looking to splurge, you have to go to Ken Stewart's Grille.

My wife and I go there every year for our anniversary. Don't order off the menu. The list of nightly specials are longer than your arm. I don't know how the wait staff memorizes them every evening. They serve fantastic food of the highest quality. You have to pay for the quality, though.
If you're into sushi, Sushi Katsu is the best. It's in the valley, but only a short drive from downtown.

Tony is the owner and chef there. He has only the freshest and best seafood prepared expertly. I've eaten sushi all over the world and Tony does a top notch job.
Feel free to contact me if you want to know more.

I am addicted to "The Splendid Table," Lynn Rosseto Kasper's show on NPR. Each week, Jane and Michael Stern review good, cheap, hometown, locals-only type places-- and there is an archive of their reviews by region on the website, splendidtable.org.
Here's what I found for Akron and the area nearby, copied from the site:
"The Sterns finally ran onto Belgian waffles worthy of Michael's endorsement at Beside the Point Café. Maybe it's because they're made in waffle irons imported from Liege, Belgium, or maybe it's the incredibly delicious toppings like the homemade cinnamon apples with caramel syrup that Jane loves. Whatever the reason, these waffles are sublime! Beside the Point is a wonderfully unusual boutique-style grocery store with an in-house chocolatier and kitchen department. The coffee is good and the brownies are killers.

Al's Corner Restaurant is a neat-as-a-pin classic luncheonette complete with a U-shaped counter. But the food is far from ordinary luncheonette fare. It’s all about sublime home-cooked Hungarian dishes here – things like Chicken Paprikash with fresh ground paprika and sausages they make in house. The Sterns say, "think of an Edward Hopper painting, only happier." That's Al's.

When the Sterns discovered Belgrade Gardens in Barberton, Ohio, a suburb of Akron, Michael was enthralled with the sauerkraut balls, a tangy and savory blend of sauerkraut and ground meat that's a favorite hors d'oeuvre in the area. Jane says the area around Akron is worth a visit for the sensational food influenced by the Eastern European immigrants who settled in the region. If you go, don't miss Belgrade Gardens. Open since 1933, its huge dining room is packed to the gills every night.

Definitely eat at Luigi's. Definitely, definitely.
I'd also recommend Diamond Grille, an old-fashioned steakhouse on W. Market St. The restaurant's plain exterior belies the wonderful (and filling!) food to be enjoyed inside.
Ten to 15 miles north of Akron is a small town called Hudson. Downtown 140, located at 140 N. Main St. in Hudson, is spectacular. Delicious, creative meals and a marvelous wine list, along with an intimate and cozy atmosphere, make this restaurant a worthwhile destination.
Have fun!

I live 40 min. from Akron, if you are driving and want cheap and tasty Swenson's Drive-Ins have GREAT burgers and SPECTACULAR milkshakes! There are a bunch around Akron. Their Galley Boy cheeseburger is really good.

The above recommendation for West Pointe Market is a good one, but be warned that place is very expensive!
Spent a lot of time in Hudson, the Reserve Inn is a nice cozy atmosphere with great food, their Leo Salad is my favorite salad ever.

Also in the Montose/Fairlawn (short drive from downtown) there are plenty of chain places to choose from, shopping, and movie theaters. Located up on the hill there we like Wasabi Japanese Steak House.

Enjoy your trip, the leaves are looking pretty good for NE Ohio.
