Giada at Home and Barefoot Contessa, Back to Basics

Both of the above new series debuted today on FN. Giada's show was more of the same, sans cleavage (sorry guys), though we did get a look at her baby daughter.

Ina's show was great as expected. She even gave us a little food porn. She is having others test-drive her latest recipes. Good ol' T.R.(back again) tested today's offerings. Anyone else catch either of these shows and are you giving thumbs up or down?

I will always dig Ina. She is everything I want to be and her devotion to Jeffrey is heartwarming. I make my husband surprise meals too. I just need a great house in the Hamptons, some friends who come to my house every week to eat and a cookbook.
Giada I never watch anymore. She cooks what I cook and to me that is not exciting. However my male foodie friends love her and all her boobilicious wonder. I would rather they watch Giada than SLop or Retchel.

^What Jerzee said. I forgot to set Ina up on my DVR. I will take care of that today!

Thanks for the update Josdean! I quit FN, but now have reason to watch at least a few shows. Ina, Chef Jeff, Anne Burrell, Tyler - I think that's it.

I agree with everything Jerzee said, except that Giada cooks what she cooks. I'd bet the farm that Jerzee cooks better.

No cleavage? She'll be gone in no time. Guess they belong to the baby now.

Dang it! Missed the premier eps but will be watching for new shows. I love Ina's classic recipes but after watching the shows a zillion times, I was jonesing for some new stuff. I hope her "back to basics" formula isn't just an excuse to regurgitate her old stuff. I think she's better than that.

Yes, thank you for the FN update. I've also given up on FN for the most part. Now that the debates are over and CNN only depresses me with news of the plummenting stock market, perhaps now is a good time to return to FN. I must have baby on the brain because all I can think about is how cute Giada's baby must be.

I worship Ina. Her recipes are always clean and appealing. Caught both the episodes. Ina's was fabulous but I thought Giada's was lacking. Her daughter was cute though.

Ina's show puts enough spin on her recipes to keep it from being boring. I'll definitely keep watching.

Damn...I missed the whole Saturday lineup because we were at a severely overpriced brunch at Park Ave Autumn in the city. Now I guess I'll have to wait three years to see any of the new episodes.

@wookie - Giada's little girl is really cute from the brief glimpses I got of her.

Ina seems more laid back; I think spending time with her "T.R." fella does that to her.

What happened to Jamie Oliver???? I miss him so.

@jbeach - for some reason, the idiots at FN put him on at 7am in the morning. He's got new shows, but you have to get up early to watch them or at least record them. "The Cooking Loft" is in his place now. I like that show, but preferred the one-two punch of Tyler and Jamie.

I'm surprised Giada's cleavage went into hiding after having the baby. She must not be nursing her or else they'd be twice their normal size and wouldn't require any boost from an undergarment.... her ratings would sky rocket. FN's marketing department must be asleep.

I caught part of the new Ina episode with T.R. Am I the only one who thinks he is totally HOT?!? I'm not digging the facial hair even though I'm usually a sucker for a goatee (I don't know why!).

@AuntJone ~ TR is definitely good looking, but like most of Ina's male friends, he wouldn't "dig" us, or her for that matter. Anybody know what he does for a living? I'd love his little fishing shack with dock in my next life. That would suit me just fine. He seems to be rolling in dough. Yes, pun intended. You all know me well enough now - do I need to keep saying that?

I haven't seen any of the new shows. SIGH. Jamie is practically on in the middle of the night (I fall asleep around 3 a.m.). I'll bet Ray Ray, Sunny, Aunt Scamdy, Neely's, Marc Summers & Al Roker are all on at watchable hours. Ticks me off.

Is TR the graying one? If so, I saw him in a magazine ad for upscale watches. So I guess he's a model or actor?

I love Giada's recipes. I for one am happy that she has minimized the cleavage. It was difficult watching Everyday Italian with some of my guy friends or even male relatives and Instead of commenting on the dishes she was making on a particular show, and they would only comment on her excess amounts of "boobage".

TR is an actor who has done some print and TV commercials. He was recently in a Volvo add that had him dashing around town! He was on Ina's show when they had a reunion for the staff of Barefoot Contessa and he said it had been 20 years since he had seen some of the people, so I assume he met Ina when he was working in her store. TR and his partner are well known in gay circles in NYC. Of course it never hurts to be a friend of Ina!

Ina Garten can do no wrong. I love her show and I love her recipes and her delivery. She is so confident and her recipes are so simple and elegant. I appreciate how she always stresses the importance of good quality ingredients---Sandra Lee take note: How is using nasty bottled lime or lemon juice quicker or simpler than giving a squeeze to the real thing? Ina rules. I watch her show when I get home from work and I'm transported to a calm, sane oasis where good food and classiness is the rule. Not the snobby type of class...the real thing. And I love her house and when she and Jeffrey go to the beach. Keep that good vanilla flowing. She is my fav on FN, bar none.

Watching Giada now.
She's making food to take to a POLO match.
Glad to have her suggestions, as I spend all my weekends at POLO matches.
(I really do love Giada, but....)

@soozm32 ~ I'll be going to them, just waiting for Princes William and Harry to call. I'd turn down Charles & Camilla, those hussies. You think she's not in touch with us real commoners? LOL

Love Ina - her world to me does seem a bit contrived, though!

I just bought her new cookbook, Jamie's newest, Martha's, "Cooking School," and Bittman's, "How to cook everything" to christen and use in my brand new kitchen - still living in kitchen reno hell, washing dishes in bathroom sink, etc., but soon . . . - at any rate I am going to get Nigella's latest book, keep my, "Hoppin' John's Low Country Cooking," by John Taylor and get rid of all the rest. My low country cookbook brings me great pleasure on days like this, bleak, freezing, grey Winter days. I just sit and read it and conjure up oyster roasts, low country boils and barbeques!

i like ina, too. giada? first of all, i never trust a skinny cook!!!!

Giada's mannerism makes it impossible for me to watch her - and I've tried several times. She just comes across as very fake. Ina, I love.

@Perky: lol... if you don't hear from the princes, I have their "alternate " phone numbers (just in case).

My wife and I cracked up about the polo match recipes. How relevant in our economy. I am accused of only watching Giada for the cleavage, which is probably true.

Last week, it was game day recipes for her husbands friends. These must have been the husbands of her polo loving friends. Although the food looked fine, nothing said "game day" and their was no evidence any game was being watched or even a TV in the vicinity as most of the guys were just starting at Giada. Plus, they were eating a calamari stew in red sauce while sitting on a white couch. (Wife's observation again.)

As for Ina's show, I just want to be Jeffrey.

@pooch~ never trust a skinny cook. that is one of my favorite sayings.
ina rocks

i made one of giada's soups. blah blah blah. not even hot sauce helped. her food sucks, that's why she's so skinny. send her to my house and i fatten her up. i think she needs a big pot of chicken & dumplings.

kmitch218 ~ a man's view is fascinating! most of us women want Jeffrey, but you're the first male who said he wanted to BE Jeffrey. I would too, if I were male. I wouldn't say I'm jealous of her exactly, but I do want her life, her talent, her personality, her house and barn, her kitchens, her fireplace, her car, her food and her husband. That's for starters. ;-)

Giada? Nada. Well, her husband is cute, and I hear her baby is adorable. I have no interest in her show or her cookbooks or her boobs or polo and her food is pretty much always the same and I already make most of it anyway.

Ina's show is better. With Giada it's all about her cleavage.

What is it with these supposidly "professional" (and I use that term loosely) cooks on tv with these boobs hanging out? Giada, Ratchel? Is this because they need a ratings boost? Trouble at home?? Come on, be like Ina and act like a professional, lady and cover up! Do they want us to notice their dishes, or their boobs?

Ina paid her dues with a successful specialty shop in one of the richest markets in the world. Giada may have had a financial leg up being the granddaughter of Dino DeLaurentis but she knows how to cook - this is obvious. Her food is great and whether or not her tits are on display, it's her cooking that gives her credibility. If you're not interested in her cleavage, don't look. If you want to attack TV cooking "personalities," focus on the ones who CAN'T cook - God knows there are lots of them.

What austintx said. Exactly. I need not type another word.
