Fun Places to take Out-of-Towners in NYC

It never fails that every time someone comes in from out of town, they want a restaurant recommendation. I eat at tons of restaurants, but always want to recommend something that you can't find outside of New York. This weekend, my aunt is in and I'd like to recommend something. I've managed to sway them away from Little Italy, thank goodness. I'd like to recommend a place that's halfway decent in pricing (this is for lunch, so I'd like to keep it under $18 a plate), yet something you really couldn't get anywhere else - someplace maybe a bit crazy or exotic? Preferably downtown-ish (SoHo, NoHo, Village).
Dim sum would be great, but one guest won't do chinese :( Any suggestions?

What about Momofuku Noodle Bar? It'll meet your budget, and I think it falls squarely in the only in New York City category. In another thread, someone mentioned Velseka as a good place to take out-of-towners and I'd agree.

If the weather is nice, I always like talking out-of-towners for a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and then getting some pizza at Grimaldis or ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.

For dim sum, you could try Chinatown Brasserie. Excellent dim sum plus a broader menu -- I imagine your no Chinese food guest might even find something they'd enjoy there.

How could anyone not like Chinese? The pork buns and roasted rice cakes at Momofuku are incredible.

The Bridge and Girmaldi's is a great idea...remember to bring cash. They don't accept credit cards. Skip the overrated Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and go to Jacques Torres' original store instead.

Lombardi's is also a NY original and Rice to Riches is right across the street. Talk about unique.

If they are into wine, go to ino...it's adorably small with a great selection of wine and paninni.

How could I forget...Bamm Automat is not to be missed. It's worth the trip for a unique experience and a quick nibble.

Wonderful suggestions! I really appreciate it, folks ^_^

Chinese is the way to go for inexpensive and exotic. I would recommend Jin Fong's for dim sum (not so much because of the quality, but because it is a unique experience) or get the Hot Pot at Grand Sichuan on Canal.

other than that, Fish on Bleeker is a good spot for oysters (6 and a beer for $8) and Otto is a good spot for lunch (and affordable for a mario batali place). Becco is also good, as they have a 3 pastas (unending) for $22.
