Foodie gifts from Portugal?
My husband's going to Lisbon for the first time later this month. Any suggestions on what I should ask him to bring back for me?

Some gorgeous Portuguese pottery- a nice serving platter perhaps?

Serra da Estrela cheese from the northern Dao region. A heavy goat cheese that you literally spoon out from the inside of the rind and spread on your baguette like you would a creamy butter, it’s probably Portugal’s most famous cheese and a true cheese lover’s holy grail. Amazing.

I definitely second the Estrela cheese and beautiful pottery. Sao Jorge (cow), Bica (cow/goat sheep mix) and Amarelo (sheep) are also tasty cheeses....
Also maybe some delicious pastries?? There were just dozens of types that I came across in Lisbon... Pasteis de Belem, also caled Pasteis de Nata are probably the best known ones, but you really can't go wrong, they are all so delicious...
You can probably already get Vinho Verde and, linguica and chourico sausage near you, but if not definitely have him bring some home... Spicy Piri-Piri sauce maybe?
Portugese cornflour breads and sweet breads are wonderful, if he got a chance to pick some up right before leaving so they'd still be fresh....
There are also some lovely olive oils in Spain and Portugal... just as with wine, there are regional difference in olive oils that make tasting new ones quite a pleasure!

An asador! it's a cool piece of pottery that you can grill sausage on at the table. Just add high alcohol content liquor to the bowl, ignite and grill your chorizo or linguica on the cross bars (all ceramic). What fun! but be careful of them flames.... Get a really charmingly decorated one, I've seen some here only they look a bit plain-ish.

Ok, on the cheese side. There is a cheese call "quejo da terra nostra" It is a flamengo cheese (cow's milk red rind) A cataplana pan, which is a dome covered pan (excellent for seafood stews) Piri Piri sauce is also good. Pasteis de Belem are awesome, but unfortunately they will not make the trip, your Husband WILL eat them before he gets home.
