Detroit Dining

Anyone familiar with good places to eat around Detroit?

I'm looking for anything from a good burger to fine dining. No Asian cuisines though since I could probably find better here in NY. (Unless there's some mindblowing Asian place in Detroit...)

Price range can vary but obviously the more affordable it is, the more I'm inclined to try it (given the economy and all).

Chicken Shack! get their dark snack with broasted potatoes.....unBELIEVably awesome. i never cross the border into michigan without heading directly there, first thing-i swear.
(there are multiple locations, but the one i always hit up is at 1320 east eleven mile, west of wampbell in royal oak)

lily's seafood & brewery in downtwon royal oak on washington avenue us great too. their beer is great-plus, you can get growlers of the stuff to take home too. bonus!

tom's oyster bar is good too. (318 south main street in royal oak)

(can you tell that i used to live in royal oak?)

oh-and hit up the motown museum. it's on west grand avenue downtown. seriously, don't miss it and take everyone you know.

great...now i feel a chicken shack dark snack attack coming on!---eat one for me!

Slows Barbecue. Must go.

Great microbrew list, killer mac & cheese and deliciously dirty barbecue.

Hmm... (in order probably from most to least expensive):

Small Plates

Pizza Papalis

Traffic Jam and Snug

and apparently Mexicantown has some killer taco places, according to Kitchen Chick (haven't gone yet, but will soon):

The Whitney
Expensive, but I went with my wife for our first anniversary and it was amazing. And if a lab tech can afford to eat there on a special occasion then practically anyone can.

Mexican Village (not really cheap, not pricey either)
Sweet Lorraine's is the best, there's a couple locations
Sweet Georgia Brown (on the high end)

Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak off Woodward has the best burger around. A definite must!

Southern Fires downtown Detroit off Jefferson gives Slow's a run for its money....

Como's for pizza in Ferndale, MI off Woodward

Finally! My hometown!

Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak and Millers Bar in Dearborn, both have fantastic burgers

Lafayette Coney Island

Genie's Wienies, formerly of Hamtramck, now of Fraser Curry powder and cinnamon in their hot dog chili sauce make it the clear winner

Fly Trap in Ferndale, featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Buddy's Restaurant & Pizzeria in Detroit

The Bomber Restaurant in Ypsilanti

Dagwood's Deli and Catering in Farmington Hills

For fine dining, Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in MGM Grand and Steve and Rocky's in Farmington Hills are both fantastic.

Zingermans in Ann Arbor
O'Mara's in Berkley
Red Saloon hamburgers in Southfield
Baker's keyboard Lounge for jazz and soul food

Oops forgot the Dirty dog in grosse pointe also for jazz, and "small plates"
Gourmet szchezuan on Telegraph in I think Bloomfield hills, may be farmington hills though around Maple Rd. I know you said no asian, but I want to challenge ny's asian...nothing could be better than this place...is even better than the chinese i had in london...
anyway, Happy hunting!
