i have....it's not bad, it's budweiser quality! It's definitely not the best ale in the world....but, it's cheaper than most ales....haha

if you want to appear to be drinking something highbrow, but sam adams lager has too much flavor for ya, bud american ale might be the right choice. don't be fooled though if you actually like good beer, it's rather boring and clean.

What would be the worst thing that could occur if you DID try it?

I tried it as well. Pale Ales are my favorite, I love the taste of the Cascade hops. It is good. Not as good as most other microbrews, but it's an average of $2 cheaper than those really good kind, so I guess it's sort of a trade off.

Bah. I spit on Budweiser. I'll pay more for Newcastle any day.

I tried it and it was just O.K. It definitely tasted like an ale (although not a good ale) but still, somehow, had flavors that were strangely like other Bud beers. Are they using rice to make it too?
deeoh1 at 8:23AM on 10/13/08
Save your dough for a good brew instead of Bud's beer-flavored water. It's cheap for a reason-you get what you pay for. Nasty! I second the spitting and go with Old Speckled Hen.

Why bother when there are so many really good ales out there?
VerasTastyFreeze at 2:33PM on 10/13/08
The commercial is ridiculous: "it's top-fermented!" ALL ale is top-fermented! If it's not, it's not ale!

I'm not a huge beer drinker (I enjoy the ocasional Sam Adams Light or Shiner), but I actually really liked the Bud American Ale. Give it a try!

It's a gateway beer for guys who are used to Bud-light but are thinking that maybe that craft beer things might be good yet can't handle a bottle filled with - uh - flavor? Just like everything that AB makes: it's designed to appeal to the masses, not the connoisseurs. Guys like me, sitting here sipping a lovely Storm King Imperial Stout by Victory, have no interest in "American Ale". We have turned down better beers.
Bunnyman at 11:51PM on 10/13/08
Come on Bunny, Sam Adams Boston Ale is right up there with any imported Ale. As for Bud, this is just InBev trying to make a run at the local micro establishment. InBev should be working on how to make a non-skunky Heineken and not messing with the microbreweries!

AB American Ale is decent brew, but a little too sweet for my taste.
You won't be embarrassed bringing this brew to a party. As mentioned above, AB makes products for the mass-market, not niches, but they are fanatics about making decent, affordable brew. AB distributors turnover their stock quickly, so the AB American Ale won't be skanky and stale, like the dust-covered bottles of Newcastle, Sam Adams and Old Speckled Hen you find in the back of most liquor stores.
I am not sure anyone could make a mass-market craft ale. As you can see from the comments above, most craft beer drinker are just like their beer, bitter with thick heads.
I include myself in this group, by the way. If I had my way, all beers would be craft beer; however, the majority of beer drinker hate craft beer. All they remember about craft beer was that they drank it during the summer while water skiing, and spent the rest of the day vomiting. Stop acting like chumps and admit it. When its hotter n hell and you are working outdoors--you drink light beer. Or maybe you never work or go outdoors in the summer.
And by the way, nhfoodie, InBev makes Stella and Becks, which are both better lager beers than Heineken ever was, which is why they outsell them in Europe by such a wide margin.

I gave this ale a fair chance, but, regrettably, the brew is short on flavor. Budweiser: Toss it and try again.
