Are you a pizza person or a burger person?

Not saying I'm not a burger person (in n' out regular here) but I cant imagine life without pizza. I like my slices neapolitan, cheese only please. How do you like yours, whether it be a burger or pizza?

Do we really have to choose? I guess at the end of the day, if I HAD to choose one or the other, I would have to take the pizza. :-P

my favorite pizza is a very thin crust with sauce, feta , spinach marinaded in olive oil and garlic, and sliced tomatoe. well done sprinkled with red pepper flakes and parmasean cheese.
burgers on a buttered grilled bun with cheese, tomatoe and lettuce with a thick slice of onion . i'm getting hungry again.

Definitely pizza. Usually, either plain cheese or occasionally pepperoni, but I just recently had a "Meat Monster" from a local pizza place here that is absurdly good the next day. =)

Definitely pizza. I know you can put a lot of toppings on a burger or add stuff to the meat but - it's a burger. Pizza's possibilities are endless with different combinations of sauce (or no sauce!), cheese (or no cheese!), toppings (or no toppings!) and crusts (you do need the crust...LOL).

I have to admit that although I do like the occasional burger, pizza wins out for me. I love the traditional Neapolitan-style versions, with a slightly burndt crust, and loaded with good toppins, and maybe a little goat cheese, too.

I would have to choose a burger over pizza, but only if I HAVE to make a choice. A big yummy juicy burger with carmelized onions and blue cheese crumbles.

today I am both since I have had both and tomorrow I am thinking about red with ham, pineapple and hot peppers.

p.s. I would sell a kidney for In and Out in NE Ohio...double double, animal style, well done fries, mixed shake. Sigh.

@chiff: You had me so caught up in your little thing that I was thinking in my head, (or no crust!) and then I felt silly when I read what you wrote there. lol!

If I had to choose, it would have to be pizza. There are a hundred great ways to have beef, but the allure of pizza is unique.

Burger.

Unless I'm in Trenton, NJ, then pizza because it's the best in the whole wide wonderful world.

hmmm.... Burgers would have to take it by a slim margin. Mainly because there are so many poor pizza places. I feel it is much harder to mess up a simple burger to the point of F.U.B.A.R.

Burger all the way. I've had some really great pizza but only reached nirvana with a huge, rare, juicy grass-fed patty with everything. Sublime.

pizzaaa.
I mean, come on, you can put anything on it.

burgers you're limited to...a burger, at least. or else it's pretty much just a sandwich.

Pavlov, I think it's completely the opposite! There is pizza for all moods, but it is simply far too easy to overcook and dry out a burger, or make a host of other mistakes.

Flamers' burgers have me burger-whipped. A good burger is really hard to find - you'd be surprised how many mid-level restaurants use pre-made burgers from outside sources. Flamers makes theirs in advance, but they are always fresh tasting, and I love flame-broiled burgers more than anything..

I love a good pizza, but there are so many pizzerias in Center City, I've become burned out on them.

Pizza any day. But very simple pizza with just one or two toppings. Too many pizza places use tons of toppings to cover up inferior crust, sauce, and cheese.

yes. Sometimes at the same time. Both are things I have mastered. All that is left for burgers is to learn to grind my own meat, and for pizza everything but the cheese can and will be homemade.

if i HAD to choose, i'd have pizza. and a steak.

I don't care for the standard pizza -- something with a bread crust and cheese.

If it could technically be called a pizza, I'd love a pizza with no crust or cheese. It would have broccoli, fresh basil, asparagus, spinach, olives, tomatoes, and ground beef or veal, but I *need* a starch so umm plain noodles on the side. No butter or salt.

If that doesn't count as a pizza :P, then call me a burger person...just no onions or cheese, and skip the buns. I usually discard the bread less than half way through anyway.

I'd much rather have a good burger and fires any day. Maybe I've never had a truly great pizza but it's always just seemed like an overrated dish to me.

pizza! regular crust, fresh mozz, sauteed mushrooms and onion, slices of roasted garlic, and fresh basil as soon as it comes out of the oven!

Oo tough one. Mostly it depends on my mood but...I'd have to say pizza, because I don't think I could live without it.

I don't want to live without either, but I love pizza so much. To illustrate: I had pizza for dinner every night this weekend, and I brought pizza for lunch today.

I think pizza would be impossible to live without. Plus, you could always have hamburger pizza.

Pizza Burgers... not the same.

I love burgers, but I just can't imagine life without pizza!

Every so often i enjoy a burger with the trimmings; but I'd rather pizza! and I've been making my own lately. On focaccia bread cut in half, sauteed onions, mushroom and green, red, yellow peppers and other toppings if wanted, a mixture of provolone, monterey jack and mozzarella cheeses and oregano, If I do say so myself, I make a m-e-a-n pizza!

if I had to choose between the two, I think it would definitely be pizza... I don't get the same satisfaction of a craving from a burger that I do with pizza.

Pizza. Even if it's not that good, it's really never BAD.

I like mine with just cheese, but I'm also ok with hot peppers, pepperoni, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and onions. Not all at once, though sometimes two at a time

Definitely a cheeseburger ........ unless it was breakfast time, then it would have to be cold, leftover pizza. A cheeseburger just isn't breakfast food.

Probably pizza. I seldom crave burgers, and once or twice a year is enough for me, but we have "pizza nights" about once every two weeks (I make an individual pizza for each of us - mine with truffle oil and a mixture of mozzarella, pecorino and asiago, although mozzarella alone is fine too; OH's with tomato sauce, sauteed onions and peppers and sausage); so there you go.

Burgers, all the way. My recent pizza-related post might suggest I'm a big pizza fan, but in reality, it's a food that's always been easy for me to pass up. I like it, because I love anything bread, and cheese is one of the best foods ever. But there are a lot of other ways of eating bread and/or cheese that I like just as much or more. I only get a true pizza craving every once in a blue moon.

But burgers? Cheeseburgers to be exact? Really good ones? That borders on an obsession for me. I'd eat them twice a week if I could get away with it.

To those who find burgers boring and unvaried, I'd argue that the topping variety for a burger is just as diverse as it is for pizza. In fact, there are burger toppings that I just don't think I'd care to see on a pizza -- pickles? chili? beets (in oz)? Um, no. I don't think so. Even the main event, the patty, can vary if you're not into beef -- there's turkey, pork, bison, chicken, tuna, ostrich, veal, venison, bear (yes, I've had one of those, too). Heck, you can even make it vegetarian! Personally, I'm a devout beef burger person, but hey... to each his/her own.

Honestly, I can't think of a time when I wasn't in the mood for a great burger. Hubby shares my passion, which is great. We've made it a point to eat at least one burger in every single place we visit. Sometimes that can be a bit dicey, but it's always interesting, and often an adventure.

And when I say burger, I'm excluding most of the fast food joints. I think I'd rather have a slice of lousy pizza than a pathetic excuse for a burger. Blech. Luckily, I live in the land of In-N-Out, so getting an edible fast food burger is never a problem!

As already mentioned here, there are SO many really crappy pizza places around. Generally speaking, it's much easier to find a decent burger. I've had way, WAY more bad luck with pizza than burgers!

Sorry to rant. Like I said. It's a bit of an obsession...
[blushing furiously]

Pizza by far! I love me some za!

Pizza, the plainer, the better. Although I do like a good burger.

Deep dish chicago style pizza with chourico, mushrooms, onions, green olives and yellow banana pepper rings.

@Adam... wow... I really wouldn't have thought that you, of all people, could even begin to choose!

8-O

Pizza has always been and will always be my first true food love. Sliders are second on my all-time faves list. I have never been too shy about saying that—you just have to know where to look! ;)

Although, LoCo, I really love your impassioned defense of a really great cheeseburger above. What (cheese)burgers lack in quantity of votes, they make up for in quality with that testimony.

Burger. With all the fixins.

just remember a bad burger can be really vile! But bad pizza is like bad sex still better than going without! (going back in my corner now)

My money is with the all-American burger too. Not that I don't like pizza but a burger is so tied to my formative years that it is easy to conjure up fond memories with every bite. If I had unbridled rein, it would be big and juicy with sauted/carmelized sweet onions, mushrooms, and crisp bacon on top.

pizza. anyday. I love pizza. bad pizza. good pizza. mediocre pizza. I eat it all. And cold for breakfast on the morning after. I must be sick.

@ nightowl- I would probably share your pizza zeal if I didn't live in the capitol of sucky pizza B'ham Alabama. When I go to work in The Northeast I have a few more viable options. Back home I have only found 2 pizza places that are palatable. Now as far as burgers are concerned I have several fine options down here starting with Milo's and Jim's...

@Adam... thanks! And, speaking of impassioned...

@huney... regarding the bad sex analogy... um... how can I put this delicately... let's just say, if there are only bad restaurants available, I don't have to eat their food, because I can just cook for myself...

[ducking]

LoCo, that assumes that the food you cook for yourself is greater than or equal to restaurant quality. Note: I'm not saying you're a bad cook, by any means.

>.>

I guess if I had to choose a pizza, I'd probably want it with Kewpie mayonnaise mixed with a little shoyu as the "sauce." Toppings would include squid, baby octopus, shiitake and enoki mushrooms, asparagus spears, and lavre sprinkled on top. The dough would be an egg-flour mixture with a few morsels of cooked-in dried shrimp that have been rehydrated (they're too strong flavored to have too many).

I just realized that I described an okonomiyaki I had some years back. :)

it's weird because even though i love burgers, this is a no-brainer...pizza

I love pizza! :) It's so much more versatile than burgers. Although if you were to throw in the different types of burgers, such as salmon burgers, veggie burgers, etc., I may not be so certain. I guess you'd be stepping into general sandwich land then.

PIZZA...no question. So much more versatile than burgers...

my fave? Thin crust, extra mozz, thick cut sauteed mushrooms, olives and sliced tomatoes with plenty of fresh black pepper.

Definitely pizza...no...wait...I mean burger...that is to say...pizza...no...burger...pizza...burger...pizza...burger...pizza...burger...

Pizza! And I'm a purist. A big slice of New York style....thin crust, sauce, cheese, oregano, garlic, and the hot oil pooling just a bit on the top. I'm drooling!

Burgers by far. I eat 4-5 a week and would die without them (although i may die eating them).

WTF!

I like marshmallows? Burgers??? pfffft

Pizza. But man oh man do I love me a good burger.

Burger all the way.

Cassendra - that's terrifying.

Gotta go with pizza - nobody's mentioned the convenience factor. Pizza travels beautifully for delivery and is easier to share with friends. It's the experience just as much as the taste.

No hate for the burgers though, but the fries are always cold if delivered :)

Such a hard question...as both are amazing. I grew up adoring hamburgers and would always order one as my default. Lately I've been on more of a pizza kick though so I guess the answer depends on what phase I'm in. This is like a JEP question - always challenging!

You don't have to choose, I have a restaurant near me that make a Big Mac Pizza (Whether Big Mac is a Burger, or not, is not the point). The Pizza is complete with pickles, lettuce, onions, and topped off with a special sauce.
So now you can have your Pizza-N-Burger and eat it to!!!

Pizza, pizza, pizza!

Pizza! So much room for experimentation and excitement! My favorite would be a wood-fired white pizza (has to involve fresh mozzarella) with seasonal vegetables.

Burgers, all the way. Especially the fried ones at George Webb's. Fried burger, fried onions, American cheese. Yum.

hands up pizza, I can make a pizza burger if I want to.

I'm both, but if I had to choose one, it would be pizza.

what's a slider, Adam?

Anyway, pizza, thin crust, garlicky sauce, mozzarella and, sometimes, pepperoni

I'm definitely a pizza person. I love thick pizza crust (I actually love these delicious pizza pretzels that have outer breading tastes just like restaurant quality thick crust). On my pizza I like extra tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, onions, goat cheese, and pine nuts. Sometimes I can even pass on the mozzarella and I just enjoy the toppings!

A slider is a weird steamed burger, or something like that. They're smaller than other burgers typically are, and are so called because of the way they slide down your throat, due to accumulated greasiness.
