What's your perfect comfort food/ drink?

Maybe it's me, but a tall glass of chocolate milk with about an inch of Hershey's chocolate at the bottom is just about the most relaxing beverage I can think of. I can just sit down and enjoy whatever I'm doing, even if it's nothing at all. Any time of the day, anywhere.....what's yours?

Pho tai -- no cilantro or onions, wafered meat served raw on the side with lots of basil, peppers, and bean sprouts. Only me and the pho coexist in this world, until the bowl is empty. Then it's back to reality.

bread and butter (or olive oil) and a glass of red wine. or pasta pomodoro (also with red wine!).

sliced bananas with milk and sugar on them....I know, sounds overly sweet....but the milk balances the small amount of sugar. My grandmother always made this for us when we were young. She's still around....turning 92 in Nov....and we still eat this occasionally when I visit.
Other than that...homemade mac n' cheese....

If we're talking "relaxing", it's definitely a glass of wine (red or white, depending on the mood), and a nice plate of fruit/berries and cheeses.

Depends on the weather - when it's super hot out I always yearn for fresh squeezed orange juice mixed with water and sugar. Homemade orangeade, I guess.

In cold weather I'll occasionally bastardize my jasmine tea with milk and sugar. Childhood pleasures. . .

No matter what the time of year, the weather, the reason, I go right for the Mac n' Cheese.

When I saw the title of the post, I thought you were asking for our favorite food and beverage comfort food combo....so, my immediate thought was...warm chocolatey-fudgey-nutty brownie & a big cold mug of ice cold whole milk!

two come to mind and both are incredibly bad for your arteries:
*lobster mac & cheese
*prime rib, yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach.

And, to drink...
*Mulled cider

but it's got to be winter for these and it's hot today in the Northeast so I'll just dream about winter and kick myself when it comes.

perfectly crusty filet mignon and a up front, assertive, fruit forward Pinot Noir!
also, a bowl of Irish oats w/real maple syrup and cream(devonshire double if i can find it).

poached chicken, sprinkled with a little sea salt or dipped in light soy sauce.

A single malt Islay scotch with a splash of water. Make mine a double.

Oh I feel so guilty....Kraft Easy-Mac. If I need comfort food, I'm probably feeling crappy, so there's no way I'm gonna actually cook.

Mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes, and mashed potatoes. Oh yeah, and to drink..... gravy of course! Lol. I think it was Erma Bombeck that wrote "In my house gravy was considered a beverage". Something like that.

When I saw food and drink together, it stopped me for a second, because the food would be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. But I don't have a drink that goes with it. I usually drink water with meals at home.

If it was a food and beverage combo, though, it would probably be a cheeseburger and vanilla shake from a diner-type place.

Beverage alone...probably a hot chocolate or a hot mint tea.

i must have been a brit or an irish person in a former life, because tea is what i invariably need and want. a big french bowl of hot black tea with lots of milk and sugar.

Drink: a spicy, sour, salty bloody mary
Food: Buttered noodles

beef noodle soup. mmm...

There are very few places left that can make a good old-fashioned Brooklyn Egg Cream. Mmmmm, good!!

Tea with cream and sugar.
Toast with marmalade.
Mashed potatoes with gravy.

That would be a pretty good meal.

Comfort food for me:
pasta with red sauce and meatballs covered in locatelli cheese or any al forno pasta covered with stringy mozzarella.
A white pizza with garlic and spinach
Drinks:
dirty martini with 4 or 5 olives
Vodka collins
some good old homemade sangria loads of citrus
sweet tea with a ton of sugar and strong tea good and cold

Any good soup. Beverage: Beer.

Like dbcurrie, I am not a a drink person at all--I don't like to drink things, period, except for a cup of coffee in the morning (lingering hangover addiction from grad school).

For comfort food I'm boring--or not as healthy as all of you savory food people. Comfort food is chocolate--chocolate muffins, chocolate cookies, brownies, or just chocolate period. And only dark chocolate.

Sometimes peanut butter or cashew butter as well--spooned from the jar. Crazy Richard's or another good natural brand, please!

Shepherd's Pie and a cold beer.

@Robbo....... an egg cream...nice.

If I need to relax, it's tea - preferably Earl Gray or Pu-erh - and buttered toast.

If I need emotional comfort, it's probably mac & cheese or soup with a big glass of milk.

Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and creamed corn; OR
roast turkey; OR,
a slice of bread straight from the oven w/ butter: or
mac & cheese

After looking at this list, it explains that extra roll around my hips - - oh yeah, as for beverage...hot chocolate :)

Chocolate milk and scrambed egg w/ bacon.
Mac and cheese
cheese manicotti

mac & cheese
egg sandwich
pb&j

It's all nostalgia...

@Heartofglass: I'm with you on the chocolate. Anything chocolate. Cake, brownies, ice cream, chocolate chip cookies, and just plain Dove chocolate pieces (kept in the freezer). Beverage: red wine, preferably Zinfandel.

Chili and a cold glass of pulpy OJ

@Hungrychristel: Dear god. I hope not together...I got serious heartburn reading your post.

This could be a long one-as it varies per my mood.

~Mashed potatoes swimming in Butter
~Mashed potatoes swimming in Butter
~Mashed, wait I think I wrote that already (LOVE LOVE mashed potatoes-real only please.)
~French Fries
~Crab and Lobster Mac and Cheese
~Mac and Cheese
~Cheeseburger with lettuce, mayo, ketchup, and pickles (preferably from 5 Guys but I'll take whatever)
~Any type of Shellfish dish
~Anything Mexican that's Cheesy
~Japanese Food (great Japanese restaurant right near my house)
~Pasta dishes
~PB & J
~Grilled Cheese
~Swedish Meatballs with Egg Noodles
~Cheese Plate with nuts and Berries

Beverage:
~White Wine
~Margarita
~Captain Morgan (Spiced or Silver), Diet Coke, and Lime
~Shot or two of Patron (we're relaxing right? :) )
~Non Alcoholic: Ice Cold Sweet Tea (nothing better then that)

Food: Anything with cheese, pasta, or both. Preferably both.

Drink: What proof is it? =) Otherwise, Diet Pepsi.

Quick fix: cuppa tea with milk in.

If it's been the week from h*ll: Beef Guinness over mashed potatoes.

A huge plate of raw broccoli and cauliflower with Ranch Dip will also right all wrongs, because it's what my Nana always had out when we went to visit on Sunday afternoons.

Cincinnati style chili, 3 way style with a tall glass of sweet tea. It feels like home every time.

A big ol' bloody mary with all of the fixings does it for me. It's twice as nice paired with butter crackers and thin slices of very sharp cheddar cheese. Hmm, I hope I have a bad day soon. :)

Fried chicken (not deep fried - pan fried after you shake it in seasoned flour)

Greens (beet, or spinach, or chard, or mustard, or a mixture) cooked with bacon or salt pork, resulting in wonderful pot likker.

A dry martini, up, with both an olive (pimiento stuffed) and a twist.

Comfort food: Hands down, pot roast with gravy and egg noodles.

Fun celebration drink: A dirty martini, very dirty, straight up, shaken 40 times so it gets those little bitty ice crystals in it. With olives, please!

Comfort drink: Hot tea with milk and sugar.

Grilled cheese
Baked ziti
Meaty calzones
Spinach and artichoke dip
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Warm homemade cookies
Pain au chocolat
Chocolate milk with whipped cream

Grilled cheese and tomato soup
Hot bread and butter
Baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives, and crumbled bacon, old-style
Whole milk with about an inch of malt powder mixed in
Coke with crushed ice and tons of fresh pulpy lemon juice

For food mine would definitely have to be grilled cheese and tomato soup.

For drink, no question, warm apple cider.

well, you can't beat a simple PB&J, it's just so satisfying

For a desperate comfort fix, I hit the Good & Plenty. HFCS and all.

Though, when I give in to the delicious evil of Good & Plenty, it's usually my tell that I'm about ready to self-immolate.

Otherwise, I'll just hit DQ and get a Blizzard. Happy nostalgia there.

My comfort food is creamy mashed potatoes, laden with butter and cream. Sometimes gravy. Curling up on the sofa with a steamy bowl of mashed taters is just heaven after a grueling day.

Comfort drink? Jasmine scented green tea - steeped fairly strong. Takes the aches right out of me.

Nostagia comfort food: Grilled cheese and Cream of Anything soup (homemade or even tricked up canned).
Contemporary comfort food: Saag paneer with plenty of paneer or green curry, swimming in coconut cream green curry sauce.
I guess for me, creamy is dreamy.

Every Sunday afternoon my sweet husband makes me a tall Tanqueray and tonic. (He's quite generous with the gin I think). That to me is the nectar of the gods For food, I feel very spoiled and a little decadent with a tray of Carr's water crackers, goat cheese, a really good bleu cheese, kalamata olives, and perhaps a little dish with oil cured olives, feta and some good unfiltered extra virgin olive oil. If you want to add a sliced baguette and pate, along with a baked brie, I could just die from happiness. And a really good book.

Umm hey, dbcurrie and bubbamomom, where were you when I was looking for meatloaf recipes?
