What desserts should i make a for a bar mitvah??

I've been asked to make desserts for a 60 person bar mitzvah that is loosely Mexican themed as one of the parents is a Mexican Jew. They don't have to be in the Latin vein, but it would be nice because they're having it catered by a taco truck from their local farmers market. I'm neither Jewish, nor have ever been to a bar mitzvah, so any suggestions would be appreciated. A few cakes and a couple varieties of cookies (primarily kid-friendly) would be appropriate I think.

having grown up in a very very jewish suburb (meaning i had to actually turn down bar/bat mitzvah invitations because there were multiple ones every weekend), you could really take it any way you want. i think cookies are a great idea as well as some fun brownies. on the traditional side, there are things like rugelach, mandelbread, coffee cake. i've seen little doughnuts as well as cheesecake too...but honestly, one bar mitzvah i went to was absolutely awesome because it had a chocolate fountain. really really fun for kids and adults, you can get stuff like marshmallows, fruit, cakes to dip in it.

Some chocolate cinnamon cookies for the kids sound appropriate, as would flan for the grown-ups, perhaps some dulce la leche flavored ice cream or cake. Ice cream sandwich 'tacos' might be fun and it's always great to have personalized take-home chocolate lollypops.

I have been to dozens of bar/bat mitzvahs and nothing is more popular than an ice cream sundae bar with different flavors of ice cream and toppings. Easy, too. Have a few cookes and brownies for the sundaes too.

What about a tres leches or quatro leches cake? You might also consider Mexican wedding cookies (known by many other names, but essentially a nut sandie-type cookie).

As far as cookies go, I recommend Rugelach (you could add a Mexican flavor by using Mexican chocolate as a filling or regular semi-sweet chocolate and cinnamon) and Mandelbrot (kind of like biscotti).

I catered a Bar Mitvah years ago and I seem to think they had apple strudel.

First of all and very important--do the desserts have to be kosher?? Kosher-style?

Somehow I have difficulty believing that a taco truck is certified kosher. But that's just me...

@lemons--lol, right.

I second someone's suggestion of tres leches cake and the chocolate fountain or chocolate fondue.

You are welcome to check out this Bar Mitzvah sweet table for ideas :)
